I love this poster the most.
Well, it seems that I had never done this movie review before. So, what I am going to write is a review on my favourite Don Bluth's animated feature, Anastasia!

The Story

When I first watch this movie, I was really amazed to find out that the story is based on a true story about the Russian Grand Duchess name Anastasia Romanov, who along with her family was killed by the Bolsheviks in Yekaterinburg, Russia sadly.
Rumours had it that she survived the massacre, and a famous impostor name Anna Anderson would later claimed to be her. Unfortunately, her DNA did not match to UK's Prince Philip's DNA, who is a blood relative of the Romanov. It wasn't until 10 years later after this film was release that it was her elderly sister Marie, who was actually missing along with their only younger brother, Alexei contrary to popular belief.
It got me intrigued into Russian history, especially about the Romanov themselves.
On the other hand, I was disappointed with the ending because I expected Anastasia asking her grandmother's permission and blessings to marry Dmitri, but I was wrong in the end.

The Characters

Anastasia is really not the typical Disney Princess that we all grew up with, she was seen as a strong-willed princess and stands out from them if she was a Disney character!
Dmitri reminds me of a lot of Kristoff from Disney's Frozen due to the fact that they are commoners in their respective films.
My favourite character was of course Vladimir and Bartok the bat, because they provide comic relief throughout the movie and I was disappointed that Vladimir was not seen again in the last scene. I also love how Bartok thanked the audience at the end of the film.

The Songs & The Music Scores

Okay, when I first watched this movie many years ago. I thought that the music was composed by Alan Menken due to how similar the songs and scores are sound, but it was composed by David Newman, with the songs and lyrics written by both Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens respectively. Coincidentally, David Newman's father Alfred Newman composed the 1956 version of Anastasia starring Yul Brynner and Ingrid Bergman as the title character. You guys should check that movie out too!
Sadly, the song At the Beginning was not featured in both the film and the musical version (I'm not sure about the latter but I hope it will once the musical makes it's Broadway debut). The song is the perfect duet between Anastasia and Dmitri, especially if they sing it after Rasputin is killed and a short reprise during the finale as they elope.

Journey to the Past

Writing this article really makes me want to watch the film and listen to the songs again, enjoy reading this review and spoiler alerts, if you haven't seen it yet. Go ahead and watch it!
