A while ago I began to watch Angel season one,There are many things about this season I liked& disliked, but mainly,I loved the PI Sleuth ambiance to it.I am not a huge Buffy fan,I just know people that are& thats how I ended up watching it from time to time, when I found out about this spin off series,I really didnt care,I felt as if it was Buffy-If She Was A Man. But I am so glad I gave it the time.
Also one thing I love about this season would have to be the originality of the "BigBad" Wolfram& Hart, an evil Law firm, who came up with that one?,& to get to another reason why I like this series is because It is nothing like Buffy, this isnt Joss Whedons show, no, it's David Greenwalts, which does make quite a dramaticle difference. For one thing,Angel isnt favoured,he needs help,he can get hurt,he can get pretty busted up& chances are, he aint getting back up!
The cast, I love the Irish aspect to it,It is music to my ears hearing Doyle go on& on,I feel very comfortable(Probably because I am Irish)
& Cordelia is very refreshing& isnt as one sided as she was on Buffy& it gave her room to show she was more then just a "pretty Face". When Doyle dies I was shocked& furious at the writers, but replacing with Wesley was a great idea& worked very well. One charactor I did not like this season had to be Kate,I'm not to sure why, but she just seemed way too preachy& miserable for my taste, very like how I see Buffy.(No offence to any Buffy Lovers!) &Love Interest?, totally wasnt needed this season, the excellent writing from Tim Minear, David Fury& GreenWalt was enough. three very underated writers.
These 22 episodes have the highs& there lows like every Box Set has,The first episode was a great way to begin the series& has one of the strongest pilots I have ever seen, with enough wit& humour to keep many people interested &a bit of sorrow to get the feel of Angel. The winning scene in that episode had to be the "Pepper spray moment between Angel& Tina, the " you looked lonely&I thought we might have something In common" bit. The other good episodes would have to be "In The Dark","The Bachelor Party", "Somnamulist","The Prodigal","The Ring", "Scantuary"& my two favourite "Five By Five"& "War Zone" with the introduction of Gunn who became one of my favourite charactors.
To be honest the demons& the creepy goings on in this show wont keep you watching but the charactor dinamic will, with every charactor bringing something else to the table.
The only dieing problom with Season one probably was the series final,I found it to be pretty overdone,& it seemed as if they just wanted to see a fight scene of some sort, so lets make a demon,(Though the fight scene are spectacular-"FiveByFive" as an example-.But the season Cliffhanger was more then enough to make me tune in for season two!..
