ducky8abug Hi *waving*, Welcome to the Bamon spot. I love this spot because it comprises a group of open-minded people. I like discussing Bonnie and Damon with people who see their potential because I assumed they were more likely to accept "controversial" opinions. I don't have to step onto this board and wonder how my posts or threads are going to be interpreted least they offend an avid Damon or Bonnie supporter. I can type what I feel without restraint. As a fan of this pair, I can and have detested Damon. As a fan of Bamon, I don't have to create the illusion of a romantic archetype when the character is anything but. I can come to this spot and post exactly how I've interpreted this character (how, in fact, he was meant to be interpreted); and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You see, this particular ship has an eclectic group of people, who have formed a wide range of opinions and those opinions may include an unadulterated love for Damon and/or Bonnie, or a skeptical view of the show...and I love that about our group. I love that we can go head-to-head with a discussion or disagree with a POV. I love that we're all different and do not prescribe to the notion that in order to be a Bamon fan, you have to accept and love both character unequivocally. I like that and I like the fans we've attracted. There's a certain freedom in expressing what you truly feel, and I don't want that to change. Not here. I don't know what drama you're referring to but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I do hope you continue to find the joy in this couple like so many of us have done in the past and present. But freedom is not unlimited. it is you can say whatever you want, it is defintely not you can use strong stereotypical word that means personal insult. There are board rules, that you post a strong anti-article that is related with bamon, has to be removed. But someone today has cross the line, and caused several bamonator to leave. That's just...ridiculous. Norman Bates is a fictional serial killer. Damon Salvatore is a fictional serial killer. Each are, as one writer put it, "the outsider." In one moment they're pathos-filled and in the next, chillingly calculating. If I had read the author's comparison, I would've thought it a very apt description. I'd be more receptive if this involved examples of misogyny within the fandom but the example you gave me was nothing more than a difference of opinion; and I'm still trying to figure out how a character was unfairly attacked by a comparison to Bates. Again, it doesn't make sense. Look, a long time ago, I learned when to pick my battles and this wasn't a battle I would've fought. Not for something as trivial as that. Please understand, this isn't a matter of hypocrisy or shipper wars. This squabble was contingent upon a unique and controversial opinion and I think how we've chosen to address it veered on the side of the extreme. By the by, I like everyone's passion on the subject and again, I admire your stance on maintaining a calm and inclusive environment but I also do not feel this issue warranted the report of a poster or removal of an article. Many of them may disagree or agree. If you want to open a disscusion on the debate of Damon and Norman Bate, and their connections. Rant forum may be a suitable place. The main reason why I wrote all of my responses on this page is the concern with issues of negativity result in the way some express their opinons on the wall are affecting certain bamonators and give false sense to new bamonators or bamonators or outsiders that their fav characters are insult, that Bamon spot are disprecful place and drives them out, made them feel unwelcomed. For examle when someone talked bamonator should respect chair or chunck because they are favorite couples and character while at the same time directly insult another character without respect to other bamonator ’s feelings, who considered this character to their fav character. Certain bamonator felt disrespect since their fav character are insult and they felt hypocrisy in that poster's comments. The wall is a place where everybody feel warmed and welcomed, not a place to spam negativity. But of course there are places, in this spot, where you can scream your opinion as intense/unpopular as it maybe and you would be probably joined by the fans who would share your views or dicuss it further. This is what rant forum for. Like samjhart mentioned, If your view that could be even slightly harsh for some people, then take it to the rant forums. That's the place where serve its purpose - rant. The article section and wall are reserved for those who wish to feel welcomed,to relax and feel comfortable with expressing and socializing anything. As for the issues of removal of an article, it ought to interpret in accordance with general fanpop rules. The general fanpop rules has outlined that no spamming, no anti-thing or article, no non-related pictures, videos or Articles which don't belong to the spot. So if an article contain messages of Anti-Bamon such as "Bamon will not happen", will be removed since it doesn't fit in with fp rules and this spot, consider it is Bamon-spot. By the way, if someone feel discontent with fanpop rules and or feel its outline is out of touch with reality or fail to assure integrity of dealing with various cases or insufficiently represent the rights of individual and freedom. Perhaps someone could file an appeal to the moderator of fanpop, requesting for review of the general rules or possible amendment. Otherwise, as members of fanpop, we should respect its rules. Going by the guidelines and respecting the rules is fine and dandy. Choosing how to respond to people and addressing one's concerns in a non-confrontational manner would have been better. In either case, this board is what each of us makes it to be. We could choose to see the negativity in things or strive for positive outlets. I chose the latter. I hope everyone follows that lead.
