Because I wasn't allowed to entertain my own thoughts, make my own decisions, and set my own personal goals until here recently. My parents pretty much dominated everything. Like Ariel, I rebelled, but it didn't do me a whole lot of good. Every time I was forgetful, or did something my parents didn't like, I was scolded, or punished, the same as Ariel is by her father, Triton.

Ariel's life under the sea is pretty much the spiting image of my own past.

Psychologically, I have run away. Perhaps, I'll physically run away eventually, too. I have been caged up by other people's restrictions for a very long time.

Both are running away for self-centered reason but I think Jasmine has more reason to do. She's pretty unhappy with her life, she lives in luxury but she stuck, didn't have freedom and friends, and she deals with the marriage law told her to marry someone not for love.

^agree. Jasmine wanted to see life beyond the palace and away from being forced into marriage. She was using her voice and not being heard. I think a lot of people would feel the same in her situation.

Both but Jasmine had an arranged marriage she had to escape so her situation was more desperate but only by a little.

She just had her father destroy her entire collection and dreams, have her friend (Sebastian) betray her and feel completly alone since she's the only mermaid who wants to live in the human world.

While Jasmine was the most priviliged bratty woman in all of Agrabah mad because she had to do her job as princess, oh no, though luck, a princess has to make sacrifices, while people starve outside, kids having to eat stolen bread by a thief and his monkey, you get to enjoy privilige and refuse to do your job? Not only that but she escapes after she makes her tiger attack a prince THAT ACTUALLY WAS DOING HIS JOB, she didn't get her dreams shattered, or hurt, or anything.

Oh well, she's a woman of color and "sassy" so she gets a free pass at making her tiger bite men and pull stunts like leaving her palace and then steal from a merchant ACTUALLY WORKING, not like her, and then almost getting herself killed.
