50 Million Books Later, Celebrate The Magic of Storytelling

There’s nothing better than sharing the joy of reading. Disney announced today that it will be donating its 50 millionth book to the nonprofit First Book, which is an organization that offers books to programs and schools serving children from low-income families throughout the United States and Canada. To celebrate the spectacular milestone, Disney and ABC are encouraging people to participate in the “Magic of Storytelling” campaign, which runs from now until March 31, 2016. Additionally, the first ever “Disney Reads Day” was announced.

The fourth annual “Magic of Storytelling” campaign will feature a public service announcement voiced by

director, Steven Spielberg. If you want to catch it, it will be airing across the following ABC stations: ABC Network, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Disney Store, Disney Cruise Line, and Disney Resort’s TVs. On top of that, each station will be donating a whopping 5,000 books to local communities.

“Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do,” said Leslie Ferraro, co-chair, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media, and president, Disney Consumer Products. “Great stories change lives, unleash imaginations, and foster creativity. We are incredibly proud of our ongoing, long-standing partnership with First Book and the work they have done to bring books to kids in need, and we look forward to sharing the Magic of Storytelling and Disney Reads Day with families and fans.”

As for the “Disney Reads Day,” it will take place on February 6, ahead of four weeks of special promotions and events. Fans will be able to participate by attending in-store events at select Disney Store locations, on social media, and through the digital activation.
