"Do we really have to go all the way out here?" Duncan complained.
"Yes,"
"Why?" He groaned. For someone who's life just got saved, he was in a pretty crappy mood.
I ignored him. Probably because I wasn't actually very sure myself.
I could see the glowing waterfall now, with the bright candles placed on the rocks on the water's edge. I slowly picked up a dark pink one and gazed at its flame when it blew out. When I glanced up, the other candles light's disappeared. A hand appeared on my shoulder.
"So you two are still alive," A voice hissed, digging sharp nails into my shoulder.
I whirled around. "Yeah your plan failed, Rose." I snapped, venom dripping from my words.
Her red eyes narrowed into slits. She really didn't like having her plans foiled. "Yes, unfortunately. I was hoping you would die."
"Oh, that must really suck for you, huh? How does it feel to be such a failure?"
Rose growled menacingly.
"Yeah, you must feel so pathetic."
"Take that back!"
"No!" I jumped up and kicked her in the stomach. She flew backward and slammed into a tree then slumped to the ground with a groan.
I turned. "Come on, Duncan. Let's get out of here!" I reached for his hand to start running when something collided with my back and I hit the ground in pain.
I spun to see Rose smirking and threw a fire-ball at her face.
"Hey!" She growled and turned into a bear. I backed away, aiming confusion-orbs at her, hoping to escape. Sadly, she just ignored them and lunged at me.
Then I noticed Duncan just standing there.
A look of shock plastered across his face and seemingly frozen he was the perfect target. My gaze flicked back to Rose, praying she hadn't registered my glance at the werewolf. She did.
Rose unlatched her claws from me and jumped at him. Duncan stood there for a moment and stepped to the side at the last moment, grinning crazily. I rolled my eyes.
Rose -or the bear- fell in a heap, springing right back up and turning into a snake. The giant cobra move its way toward me. If I remembered anything about what Lila had told me about snakes it was that they werer deaf and responded to vibrations, like music. Oh, and the other thing, that I'm sure everyone knows is that most snakes are highly venomous.
So, let's wish me good luck.
I picked up a random stick and tried to stab her with it. For a Sorceress, I thought that was really pathetic. Rose seemed to as well. If snakes could, it looked like she raised an eyebrow and seemed to almost say 'Really?'.
"You're going to kill me with a stick?" She inquired. Her voice was nothing like the sterotype for snakes. For one, when she talked it didn't sssound like thisssssssssss, and two, it didn't sound raspy like they usually do in movies and how you hear it in books. It was a high, clear voice, and it sounded sort of like she was in a cave that echoed madly. Never how I expected a snake to talk.
The cobra's tongue flickered in and out of its mouth. I had a feeling it was deciding how to attack. Taking advantage of that moment I twirled my hands to make a spear and thrust it through the sanke's scaly body. Rose-snake's eyes glazed over and layers of snakeskin fell off one by one, until Rose was standing in front of me again.
"How do you kill a Shapeshifter?!" I hissed to myself.
"Hold on, let me check..." Lila's voice replied from somewhere behind me. I turned but no one was there.
"Hello?" I asked nervously before remembering she was probably just sending a telepathic message.
"Okay, Courtney, if you kill a shapeshifter in another form, it'll just turn back into its true or 'normal' form. You have to kill her when she's human. There are some things about killing Shapeshifters with silver, but that's mostly werewolves..." Wow, Lila can read faster than I thought. Note to self: No more silver jewlery.
"And another book says steel but that's only a possibility. The way I see it, the only thing that definitely works is to burn her. Good Luck Courts!" Lila finsihed, popping out of my head.
Thanks! I told her mentally. Okay, fire. I should try not to make it too obvious.
I shot ice at her, which she nimbly dodged then transformed into a squrriel.
Nice battle strategy, I thought sarcastically.
But a squrriel is harder to hit, being smaller. I flung more ice-daggers in the tiny creature's direction.
I prepared for my big attack with a fireball, Of course, it'd be nice if she was bigger...
I paitently waited for her to metamorphasize into something else. She did. The only problem
was that she chose a jaguar. She eyed me hungrily, as if deciding the best way too cook me -But what kind of Jaguar cooks, anyway? The piercing amber gaze followed my moevments paitently.
"Okay, look." I told it. "There are two outcomes from this fight. One - you die. Or two -I let you go. Which do you chose?"
"I chose you die!" The jaguar screamed, sounding nothing like Rose, and toppled me over in a bound. Her shinning claws dug into my side as she prepared to rip me to pieces...

Duncan`s POV:I was walking beside Courtney who was following the mystery man.All I could think about was if Courtney liked me more than a friend or at least a friend. She hadn`t talked the whole time we were walking, and I started to get a feeling something was wrong.
Courtney`s POV:I kept walking behind the man."We`re here."the man said simply."And where is here exactly?"I asked looking around."Nivia."he said."Come here."the man said again. After three minutes, the mystery man finally said,"Look down." I looked down and saw something that took my breath out of my soul.
