Chapter Two
"No Turning Back"
Mohinder Suresh and Maya Herrera - Bangalore, India
"Why, Mohinder?" Maya burst out suddenly as they sat around a table in silence. She was extremely frustrated with the situation, coupled with worry for the woman now lying in their spare bedroom. Mohinder merely gave Maya a pleading look, as if asking for forgiveness - they knew there was no going back now. "I've been wondering..." she mused, leaning across the table "how did you know to send Ando that note?".
"Simple" Mohinder told her, looking pleased with himself. "I found a boy named Sanjog Lyer - his ability allows him to enter and manipulate people's dreams. I merely asked him to keep an eye on our old friend Angela Petrelli for me." Suddenly a low moan came from a nearby room and Maya quickly jumped to her feet to attend to the woman that had been rescued, Mohinder following.
"Uhh, where am I?" the woman asked, brushing hair off her sweaty face.
"Safe" Mohinder assured her, "My name is Mohinder," he nodded at Maya "this is Maya."
"Thank you" the woman said sincerely "I would suppose that you require an explanation." she added, sitting up slightly and wincing. Maya nodded whilst Mohinder simply tilted his head in affirmation.
"I was kidnapped." she told them, they sat in silence for a moment, both Maya and Mohinder expecting her to elaborate.
"Why, and who are they?" Mohinder asked assertively. It was clear she was being secretive, but this was not the time and definitely not the situation - he had just thrown away his entire lifestyle for this woman.
"I do not know who they are" she addressed Mohinder "And as to why, I would suppose they intended to agree on a ransom. Again I thank you for your help, I am quite indebted to you, Mohinder."
She attempted to stand, but winced horribly, clutching her side and allowed Maya to resettle her in bed.
"Typical" Mohinder muttered to Maya as they left the room "She knows our names and it was nothing but a run of the mill incident."
"I would hardly call it 'run of the mill', Mohinder, but you're right." Maya replied, grimly "And for the record... you gave her our names, not we" she added with a smile.
The sound of screeching brakes froze them in their tracks. Maya ran to the cab, whilst Mohinder ran towards the injured woman's room. He apologised quickly before lifting her again, causing her to scream in agony as they hastily ran for the back door. Bad move.
Mohinder opened the door to be met with a fist. Someone had punched him square in the face, knocking him slightly off balance, but his ability allowed him take the hit, so he quickly stamped on the man's foot, causing the paving underneath it to crack.
The cab screeched up nearby and Mohinder lay the woman in the back, as a group of three burly men reached them. Mohinder grabbed the first by the arm, twisting it awkwardly until there was a snap and the man's face became distorted with pain. Still holding the arm, Mohinder swung the man at the other two, knocking them to the floor, giving him time to climb in the cab.
"Phew" Maya said, feeling her heartbeat with one hand and steering with the other as they sped away. "Everyone ok?"
"No... Oh god no, what's... happening to me?" the woman shrieked, looking at her hands. They were covered in the blood from her now re-opened wound, but as Mohinder looked closely he could see pulsating green bubbles sprouting from the cuticles in her fingernails.
