Hamsters Article: Never Trust The Pet Shop Staff

a year ago (September 2007) i got 2 female dwarf roboski hamsters. As the pet keeper sed, they were. when i got home i played with them, fed them and baught them lots of toys. a few months later, one of my hamsters (Chloe) was acting very lazy. I was quite worried about her. I soon realised that she only came out of bed for food and water. i watched closely at them for quite some time. Silver (the other hamster) was fine.
The cage started to smell. I decided to clean it.
I took Silver out and put her inside her exesise ball. Then i got Chloe and put her into her spare cage to sleep. I took the top of the chained cage of and began to remove the toys. soon i took the bed out and to all of my surprise i found 4 tiny little hamsters. i rubbed my eyes. my jaw was wide open and i had frosen. They were babies.

I realised that Chloe was lazy because she was looking after this lot. :-) and Silver was actuelly a boy! i'll nvr trust a pet keeper again.

Sarah_Mc OMG. THAT HAPPENED TO ME. On November 24 2007 I bought three "male" Russian Dwarf hamsters. This didn't happen until May 6 2008, but on that day, five little baby hamsters were born. They're all white with grey streaks, but there were two brown and two of the parent's colour. We left the babies with their mother and did research. About a month later, more were born. It was the same mother, but we had separated one. The hamsters had only just been born (the first litter) like, they were about 20 minutes old! We have the dad, the vet told us he was a male, but we gave the other two back to the Pet Store after the second litter. They were the same colouring and same number of them as the first. But I won't ever trust a pet shop person again either... I think I'll probably take mine the vet or try and sex them myself (like I did to the babies, and I was right because the vet told me so). x

tubby5678 That happened to me too when i was four, i had a hamster named sammy and one named alice, i put them in the same cage because i didnt know if they were together they would mate! one day i saw 12 little red things and asked mom what they were. She took it well and we gave them all away! It was all good and fun but i wish i could remembe more of it because i cant recall everything! it was cool!

Mistyflower my friend got a "male" hamster and a few weeks later it had babies. theres alot of stories like that out there!

Wanda5 That kinda happened to me but i knew it was a boy and girl. when i was little i had a hamster and me and my family went on holiday so i had to give it to my friend to look after it(she had a hamster too), we put them both in the same cage and our parents didnt say anything so we left them and when we came back we found out that my hamster (the girl)had babies

winniemay I only have 1 hamster and it is a girl. If any help, turn ur hamster on its back. U should see two holes at the bottom. If the 2 holes are close to each other, like u can see no gap at all, it is a girl. If the holes are far from each other, like 1 cm apart, it is a boy.

KowalskiRocks This article is an example of why you should make sure your local pet shop is reliable before you buy any pets. Most of the time the people who run those shops only care about and not about the animals. So generally, a licensed animal breeder would be a better choice to get a pet because they care about the animals getting a good home rather than about the profit made.
