Harry Potter Question

Need help understanding some ships...?

Too lately i've been hearing about so many weird ships that don't make sense, at least not to me. Why is Hermione shipped with the sorting hat? I mean Hermione is a human being (witch), and sorting hat is a HAT. So how is that ship even possible? Another ship - Harry and Dobby. It's not about they're both males. Just that Harry is a human like Hermione and Dobby is an elf. it would make sense if he was Lord Of The Rings type of elf, but since he is not, it doesn't make sense. Not to mention Harry/giant squid, Harry/Hedwig ship.

How are people even thinking of such ships? It's just too impossible and kind of sick. I don't know..Is there some meaning or reason behind theses ships? Am i missing something?

I really hope such ships aren't serious ones. IF they ship Hermione and Sorting hat the same way they ship Hermione and Ron, they seriously need some help.

I think it's meant to be about the kink, and not really considering the impracticalities. To be honest, I try not to think of those ships too hard when I hear about them. Some of them might make people want brain bleach.

Yeah, you're right. It's better not to think about them too hard

It's either that or a joke, or a combination of the two

Maybe it's the combination of the two. But whatever it is, i really hope people don't take these ships too seriously, like in a romantic pint of view

I didn't know it then. I thought people were serious about those ships.

It's alright. And sorry if my comment offended you. But yeah, it can be hard to see it from a different way. Like I said, I crack ship it for laughs, I don't quite understand why someone ships them seriously.

That's alright, since you didn't mean to be offensive either. I find it almost impossible to see it from a different way.

*Guilty of crack shipping the Womping Willow with the Sorting Hat*

It's just a crack ship, I can't speak for everyone, but I personally do it just for the lolz.

Going more in depth; it depends on the person. Some are like me and do it just to get a laugh. Some do it seriously.

Everyone has their quirks and fetishes or whatever and that's up to them to decide. Not everyone likes everything you do, likewise, not everyone is uncomfortable with the same things you are. I don't really have that mind set so it's hard for me to explain why a person would be seriously into it.

Honestly I can't explain why I like some of the things I do. For exsample; I like seeing my favorite fictional character in pain--so long as they get comfort. At first I didn't know why, and for a long time I didn't. And then I realized that I liked the idea of hurt/comfort, the idea that someone will lend you a hand after you get hurt.
My point is, some people can't really explain why they are into the things they are into. They simply are. Why do I like the color blue more than other colors? I have no idea.

For that reason I don't think it's fair people to say that it's wrong to ship things like Snape/Hermione or Harry/Sorting Hat. It's not like all of them act upon it. I can see people getting uptight it said shippers try to cram the ships down your throat. But if they're off doing their own thing and talking to fellow shippers I don't see why there's butthurt.

Completely agree. There's nothing wrong with outrageous pairings.

You wanting to see your fav fcictional character in pain is not even a bit similar as people SERIOUSLY wanting a living thing and non-living thing to fall in love and have sex. Please execuse my words. I have read fanfics that were meant just as jokes and for entertainment purpose, and trust me i have found them quite funny and entertaining. But can i go on saying i want my mom to marry my brother just bocz i feel like it or let's say i want my my friend to be shipped with her cell phone and serioulsy fall in love with it?? Living thing and non-living thing, Human and bird, human and animal, falling in love doesn't sound right, doesn't feel right. I know i'm not the only one who feels this way

Okay, i do agree that it doesn't hurt anyone. But still i don't find it quite normal. i'm not saying IT'S NOT normal. i'm just saying IN MY OPINION it is not. As i don't ship these kind of pairs, i can't find it normal. I have to be one of those shippers to understand such ships. Anyways, i respect your opinion and your effort to stand up for those serious shippers.

I get the feeling they're "crack ships" just for shits and giggles. Probably the most well known is Drapple (Draco and the apple from the Vanishing Cupboard).

Ah man, I don't know about ya'll but I think the biggest mystery ship is the Durmstrang ship. Now how on Earth is there such magic to completely submerge a viking ship and withold a ton of burly young men? How did they even get a viking boat? Are they vikings themselves? The army should take note, our submarines barely hold enough to take down a tiny rowboat! But the Durmstrang ship?! WOW.
