How did you feel when JK Rowling announced that Dumbledore is gay?

I had no judgment on Dumbledore's sexuality whatsoever. He was the wise old mentor figure - you don't really think about his romantic life much. I mean, did you ever think about Obi Wan Kenobi's love life, or Yoda's?

In any case, it made the story about Grindewald far more convincing, and that was all I cared about. If Dumbledore was just good friends with Grindewald, I feel that wouldn't stop him from seeing the EVIL in Grindewald's actions. Harry would recognize if Ron went Death Eater, wouldn't he? But love... love unfortunately can make it hard to see the flaws in our lover. If he was in love with Grindewald, then his blindness to Grindewald's plans is much more plausible.

It fit with the story, and it was subtle, and if I recall, the only reason she even said he was gay was because people kept asking who the love of his life was, and she couldn't say "Grindewald" without revealing his sexuality.

Honestly, I think too big a deal was made about this. Activists celebrated it way too much, and anti-gay advocates condemned it way to harshly.

It's a fictional character. His sexuality doesn't matter. Rowling was trying to answer the questions people bombarded her with about her character. That's all.

At first I was like What? Did I hear that right? Dumbledore's Gay? But then I was like, eh.. who care's. He's still AWESOME!! :D

I know its her character but, she released that info after all the books were done so I made up my own mind already. I think that he likes Prof. McGonagall. But that is just me. I never saw any clues that told me he was gay, but in the end whether he is or is not I believe is up to each individuals imagination.

I think it was realy stypid from J.K Rowling to just say: Oh btw he is gay!
Like she was just suddenly decide that he is gay..
I'm not saying that being a gay is bad thing

At first, I was like "WTF?!?" then it became a talking point around my gang and we started making up stories about what Harry and Dumbledore really did in the HBP special 'lessons'... LOL

Ecstastic! I think it's wonderful! Dear old Dumbles, it's the only thing I like about. And it makes me respect Rowling even more. And it shows that not all gay people are stereotypical Hey girlfriend! kind of homosexual (even though they are pretty fabulous, too!). Now, this begs the question: Gandalf gay, too? XD

I was really shocked, and it was sorta weird for a little while but then I just accepted it... it was so random though! Just telling us that out of nowhere :P

I didn't really care LOL; my adoration for Dumbledore's character didn't change. However, I thought it was pretty stupid that she announced this AFTER the books came out.

When someone I know told me, I was like : 'No... you're kidding! Are you?

Then he said I'm not joking! I checked to see after if he was lying.... he wasn't. I was shocked! Didn't expect it! :)

Really? When did she announce that? I am just now learning about this. I'm not surprised though.

Well, apart from Snape and Hagrid non of the Hogwarts' teachers ever showed any interest in the opposite or same sex, lol!
So does that mean that Dumbledore's interest in Grindelwald was sexual in the first place? Now we have to re-interpret their duel, I dare say!
Anyway, Dumbledore DOES seem more excentric than the common British wizard. And his feelings towards Harry are surely pure fatherly - he may be gay, but he is past hormonal struggles, I'd say.

I didn't actually find anything in the books or movies that made him act like he was gay. It doesn't matter if he was, because he's still the same wise, man. But when she said that it made me feel weird because I thought he was straight.

I LOLed so hard! I thought that probably every other character, except him, is gay. XD
But I can understand it, and it's so cute~~ haha but only if you imagine it when he was young, it's just weird to think of him having any kind of relationship in the timeline of the book.... But than again it's weird even if he was straight. XD

That's what I thought. I've always thought about why he never talked about any woman in his life (wife, girlfriend, etc) and considered thi option but JK Rowling said it... I don't know...
