The next day, Onyx caught up with Misty after school. “Hey Misty, I haven’t seen you much today. Where have you been hiding?” He asked jokingly. He noticed that her hair was covering the side of her face today. She almost looked like she had been accused of something; “I... I haven’t, why would I hide?” She asked turning around, she then suddenly relaxed.
“Oh. It’s only you” Misty said gladly. “Only me,” Onyx replied cheerfully, they began to walk down to their usual spot at the beach. “How did it go with Judy yesterday?” Misty’s expression morphed quickly, her fists were clenched, her hair darkened quicker than normal and a strong gust of wind formed suddenly, as Misty’s dark red hair swung out of the way revealing a blue – yellow bruise that covered the side of her face.
That’s why she twitched when I asked where she was hiding Onyx realised, Onyx sat her down. “Did Judy do that to you?” Onyx asked calmly. She avoided his face and eyes. He looked at her, “Misty, if she hurt you, you know that you can get out of there straight away, right?” He asked.
“Look Onyx, I appreciate your concern, but I’ll be fine. It’s not as bad as it looks anyway.” She smiled; Onyx didn’t want to push her any further so he smiled back at her. They got up and got changed into their bathers; it was almost un-common for them not to be wearing their bathers now.
“Want to see a cool new thing I have been learning?” Onyx asked excitedly. “Sure” Misty smiled; she was glad that they could talk to each other about their powers. Onyx closed his eyes, concentrated, and held his palms out to the water in front of them.
Slowly, but surely small bubbles rose to the surface, Steam began to form above the water. “It’s boiling!!” Misty observed excitedly. “Wow Onyx, that’s amazing!” She clapped for him. “Thanks misty” he smiled, and caught his breath. The two continued to practise with their gifts; they were gaining power quite rapidly, to both of their excitement. They left the beach and went back to their houses. “See you tomorrow Misty” Onyx said, “You sure will” Misty replied smiling.

Misty was happy, she was always happy after practising her powers with Onyx. She ran home and called out to Judy, but to her surprise she didn’t hear a reply. She ran up to her room, thankful for not seeing her Foster mum. Her bruise stung, she wished Judy hadn’t been so mean to her. What kind of punishment could she expect from Judy though? Misty went to the mirror and inspected the bruise, thinking about Onyx’s reaction. He had looked mad at the fact that Judy had hit her, and sad that Misty had refused to seek help.
“Misty, your home, finally” Judy said bitterly. Her voice stung more than the bruise. Misty turned around.
“Yeah, I went to the beach for a swim” Misty replied casually, “You know how hot it’s been lately”. Misty avoided Judy’s piercing eyes as she spoke. Judy entered the room slowly; she looked like a panther about to attack. Before Misty had time to react, Judy’s fist smashed into her eye, Misty - caught off guard, pushed her foster mum out of the room, but Judy managed to keep her grip, pulling Misty by the hair, screaming in her ear.

“You have to be home straight after school for chores, you stupid girl! Go and do your chores right now!” Misty tried to get out of her grip, her temper rising, and rising. Judy watched in shock as she saw Misty’s hair turn the same colour as her eyes, pearl white. Judy let go and took a step back while Misty advanced on her.
“You witch!” Judy screamed. “Get out of my house right now!”
“After all of this, I’m the witch? I hate you, I’m leaving but if you ever touch me again I will get revenge.” Misty vowed. Misty went up to her bedroom, packing all of her belongings, surprisingly, they all fit into one bag. Misty could feel Judy’s presence, and her temper rose again. With the swing of her hand, a gust of wind flew towards Judy; she heard a scream followed by numerous thuds.

Misty walked out of her room and saw Judy lying on the floor, unconscious. She calmly passed Judy, went to the kitchen and dialled an Ambulance. She described what had happened, leaving out the gust of wind and gave the address of her former home.
After hanging up, Misty went back up stairs to finished packing; she went under the bed and pulled out a ratty old shoe box, she opened it up and took out a stack of photos. There were pictures of her family, and Onyx. Underneath was a roll of money she had been saving for a time like this. She pocketed it, and then put the box in her bag.
The ambulance had arrived, so Misty led them Judy’s body then walked out of the retched house. Misty slowly closed the door behind her. She walked calmly to Onyx’s house, knocking on the door until he answered.
He opened it smiling, until he saw Misty, She was sure the bruising on her face had shown itself.
“Judy and I had another fight” She said calmly. “She fell down the stairs, with a little help... the ambulance is there now, Look Onyx, I have to leave, I can’t stay here without a guardian; I just thought I should say goodbye first.” Misty started to tear up.
“You’re my best friend, like a brother to me Onyx, I’ll miss you.” She hugged her shocked friend, and then started to walk down the drive way, when she heard Onyx call after her.

“Misty, wait!” Onyx called, running up to her and giving her a hug. He couldn’t lose his best friend, not without a fight, not now, not ever.
“Onyx let go, I have to go, please...” Misty begged, awkwardly trying to wriggle out of his strong grip but he managed to calm her down, enough for her to return to his house.
“Mist, what happened? Tell me everything” Onyx ordered gently. He looked into pearl white eyes, confused. She went to speak but her phone rang. Onyx didn’t know what was said, but misty burst into tears almost instantly, her sobs muffled whatever she was trying to say.
When she hung up she threw herself into Onyx’s arms and cried. After an immeasurable amount of time, Misty got up. “I killed her Onyx, I used my powers for evil, and it’s my fault” she flared up again, and ran from his room.
Onyx went to run after her but she sent a gust of wind at him, slamming his door in his face and sending him flying back towards his bed.
“Misty, Misty, Wait!” he called through his open window to her, but it was useless, she had practically flown away.
