“Thanks for letting me in” Hugh didn’t expect Lisa to open the door for him, but let him in? That one he didn’t even dream of.
“What are you talking about? Of course I’m letting you in” she was determined to precede her plan. Act like nothing happened. Wouldn’t be the first time she’d done it.
Hugh was so confused. Five hours earlier, she was kicking him out of her home and now she was pretending that hadn’t even took place. He couldn’t help but smirk at the thought of irony surrounding the whole thing. He was afraid he was messed up, turned out, she was more messed up than him.
Might as well play it out.
Or not.
He couldn’t get the voices of his kids out of his head.
“Dad, tell her how you really feel”
“Yeah, dad, if she pushes you away, at least you know you did everything you could”
“If she means anything to you, and I know she does, even if you don’t admit it, the worst thing you could do is pretend like nothing happened.”
The event in his kitchen from two hours before constantly played in his head. They were right, all they said was true. However, at this particular moment, staring at Lisa, it seemed so much easier to not say a word and jump into bed with her like old times.
Waking up in the morning with the familiar feeling of emptiness.
No, he had to try. He had to fight. It was impossible that there was nothing in her heart she felt for him, not after what happened that morning, mere hours earlier.
If there was something she felt for him, he saw it in her eyes, those brief seconds between opening his eyes and her telling him to go.
But now, he didn’t see it. Not when she was giggling and stroking the dogs that were jumping around her playfully. Not when she was pretending everything was fine, not when she was taking that easier path he fought himself not to follow her.
All he could see in her was this urge to have fun and as much as it suited him in the beginning, when he was so sure they were just friends, now seemed superficial and unwanted. He wondered if he was selfish for wanting more.
She took a seat on her living room couch. That was when Hugh realized she was still in her ‘morning’ outfit. The same outfit she wore when he’d left. The same she wore when they’d kissed. The intoxicating scent of her skin filled the room and Hugh felt his defenses breaking. He was so close to following her on that easy path. He needed her so much, even if that meant waking up with the same emptiness. He stepped closer to her, wanting to take her up, and really, really pretend like nothing happened.
But just then he retreated as Rebecca’s voice stopped him.
“…The worst thing you could do is pretend like nothing happened”
He reached a hand to her and for a second she stared at him, not certain of what he was doing. He wasn’t sure either, he felt so scared. However, something in her eyes told him that she was just as scared as him. It was almost like there was a different person captivated in those big blue-gray eyes, craving to be let out. The person, Hugh was sure, he had in his arm that morning, the person that reciprocated his kisses.
“ If she pushes you away, at least you know you did everything you could”
Charlie’s words rang in the small space of his scull.
Lisa was still looking uncertainly at Hugh’s hand.
“Listen, Hugh… Someone’s coming over…can we hurry this up?” and that person was gone as the grin eradiated on her face, that familiar spark in her eyes replacing the fright.
However, Hugh could still hear the cries of the small person inside. He could hear her small echo filling Lisa’s words with something he would detect as sadness, emptiness, the same he felt every morning he left her place.
She was there, almost like she was begging to be released. And Hugh was finally sure he would get her out as Lisa took his hand.
“Tell her how you really feel”
Billy… Maybe that was the last step it took to get her out on the surface. He had to try.
“Lisa… I think I” was all Hugh got to say before the doorbell interrupted him.

Saved by the bell. Lisa couldn’t think of better time for Jen to arrive. She sensed what Hugh was trying to say, she didn’t exactly know what it was, but she knew it involved feelings. That was enough for her to want to run and now, that bell sounded, she was happy she could deal with Hugh… hopefully without emotions, later.
Well, at least it's not Elizabeth XDDDDD

This is a ridiculously short drabble post that I wrote like, five minutes before this because I am hungry and all I had all day was Pepsi. It could be taken as either Huddy or Huli, or even both, lol.

There were too many consequences; the backlash would be cruel and harsh, and she's not sure if they could live through it.
Too much was at stake; too many people hurt. What was to become of their careers and relationships?
But then he kisses her, and she forgets.
Just for a little while.
"I love you," She feels him whisper it against her lips, and she knows then that she doesn't care anymore.
He is all she needs.
