20 minutes later they arrived at the hospital. They walked into the emergency room where a nurse and a pediatrician were already waiting for them. They both introduced themselves to Hugh and Lisa, who didn’t need any introduction, and took them to a private room as people were already staring at them. The room didn’t have a baby bed, so Lisa went to sit on the normal bed and hold the baby. The nurse immediately started to hook the baby up to some machines, while the doctor asked questions about where and how they found her. After that the doctor did a physical exam and ordered a few tests…

‘Mr. Laurie, Miss Edelstein… I think it’s best to keep the baby here for a few nights. I’m going to order some other tests and just to be sure I’m going to get her a place on NICU. ‘, the doctor said. ‘Is there anything we can do?’, Lisa asked concerned. ‘No, I’m sorry. If you want to we can call and update you about her status.’, he replied. Hugh nodded, ‘Please do that.’ ‘Thank you for bringing her in, the nurse will be here in a few minutes to pick her up and get her her own bed.’, he replied, said goodbye and went away.

Lisa stared lovingly at the baby girl in her arms, who was looking up at her with big blue eyes, while her small hand was grabbing Lisa’s pinkie. ‘I can’t believe someone would want to give you up.’, Lisa whispered to the baby, ‘You deserve love, so much love.’ Hugh sighed as he saw how quick Lisa had gotten attached to the baby, but he had to admit it wasn’t just her, he didn’t want to leave the baby either. Those 2 hours they spent in this room together plus the little time before that seemed like so much more as the connection with that baby felt so strong already. Tears formed in Lisa’s eyes as she softly kissed the girl on the head. A few minutes later the nurse came in to take the baby away. ‘Bye baby, we’ll never forget you…’, Lisa said and gave the baby another kiss. Hugh also gave the baby a kiss, then the nurse took her away.

Hugh wrapped his arms around Lisa as she shed a few tears. ‘I love you.’, Hugh said and kissed her gently. Lisa looked up at him and frowned. ‘You were so amazing with the baby… I just…’, Hugh said and Lisa smiled as she understood him. ‘We should go…’, Lisa said and Hugh nodded. ‘You want to go drink a cup of coffee first?’, he asked sweetly. ‘I’d love that…’, she replied and smiled.

They took a cab to the village that was close to the Lake and searched for a coffee place, but as Lisa saw a giftshop she demanded they went in. The giftshop was pretty big and when Hugh asked he found out it was kind of the only non-supermarket store the village had and that they sold everything except for food. He walked around the store and thought that maybe he should get his kids something, but as he ended up with three presents for Charlie and none for Bill and Rebecca he put those three back and decided to buy them all something extra for Christmas in a few months…

‘Here you are.’, Hugh said, ‘I was searching all over the store for you for about 10 minutes.’ Lisa laughed, ‘It’s not that big Hugh.’ ‘I know, but you aren’t that big either… The selves are higher then you, so I couldn’t find you so fast.’, he replied, ‘Maybe you should grow a little taller.’, he said and winked. ‘Yeah, I would have, but when the growth-hormone fairy came to me I had to make a choice between giving it to my breasts and ass or to my bones. I thought you’d like me being small and have breasts and an ass better than be tall and flat.’, she joked. ‘Hmm… You bet ya!’, he said and grabbed her ass real quick. ‘I’m glad you chose the tall-flat one though.’, she replied and laughed.

‘But ehm honey, what are you doing in this department of the store? I don’t know if you noticed, but you’re not that small…’, he said as he pointed to the baby clothes surrounding them. Lisa looked at her feet, ‘I just…’, she started. ‘I know, I understand…’, Hugh said and pulled her into a hug, thanking god there weren’t any camera’s in this very small village. They talked for a while and Lisa finally decided that it was indeed best to not buy the baby anything as it would be even harder to just let it go. She ended up buying a stuffed animal, Tigger, for Hugh. After that they went to get coffee and called David who was getting really frustrated as the only people he couldn’t replace weren’t there…
