*On Devastis*
I stood in line, Irkens all around, some anxious, others standing tall and proud. I looked around, seeing if I could recognize any of my peers from the Academy.
Suddenly, I spotted Zoë, my good friend, waiting in a line a few away from me. She looked nervous, biting her lip and wringing her hands. She was second best in our class, right behind me, but she was also very kind and sweet. Next to her was Sun, a feisty, spirited girl who went out of her way to be different. She seemed to be trying to reassure Zoë, unsuccessfully.
I then saw Bek and Kim, chatting away with each other. They got along so well, and did everything together. They had their skirmishes, yes, but they always got over them quickly.
I didn’t however see Tay and Tin, two male Irkens, a year or two older than me. Tay was brilliant and skilled. He was studying at the moment to become a scientist or an engineer. Just like Kim, he had a strong relationship with Bek, only his was in more of a brother/sister sort of way. He stood up for her, protected her, and helped her out with assignments and missions in the Academy. Tin was probably off on the Massive, learning how to serve the Tallest and work the Massive’s controls. He was very tall, and wore a lot of dark colors, not the traditional magenta. He had his funny moments, but he was also very sullen.
I was awoken from my thoughts by a tap on the back; the Irken behind me was signaling me to move up, as it was my turn to begin the evaluation. I took a deep breath, and walked up the steps, and through the doors.
