A rock band played while kids danced on deck. Waiters roamed the crowd, carrying trays of food. Alex, Madison, and Griffen boarded the yacht and stepped onto the main deck.
"I'll get the drinks," Griffen offered.
"Pineapple smoothies for us will be just fine," Madison said, her eyes darting around the deck.
"Thanks a lot."
The band started playing a slow song. Alex looked to the stage. The lead singer strummed his guitar and sang.
He had brown hair that covered one of his big, dreamy brown eyes. He looked a little younger than the rest of the band, maybe sixteen, Alex thought.
She nudged Madison. "Yottie--twelve o'clock."
"Yottie?" Madison followed Alex's eyes to the stage but looked confused.
"A hottie on a yacht," Alex explained. "A yottie."
The singer caught Alex's eye. He smiled at her as he sang.
"He's smiling at you," Madison whispered.
"I saw that," Alex said, staring at the singer. Then he winked at her, and she realized he'd caught her staring. "And now he knows that I saw that," Alex said, turning red.
The band finished the song, and Alex clapped along with everyone else. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Scott, the cute parasailer from the beach, was walking toward them.
He stopped in front of Madison. "Hey, uh, want to dance?" he asked her.
"When there's some music," Madison replied.
"Oh, yeah, right," Scott said. Alex stifled a giggle. He must feel like a complete idiot, she thought.
"I'll bet there's more music on a big boat like this," Madison told Scott. She took his hand.
"Let's go find some."
Way to take charge, Madison! Alex thought as her sister walked away with Scott. Then she turned her attention to the stage. The musicians were setting down their instruments to take a break.
