CHAPTER 1
"Wake up! Wake up! Steve, if you do not wake up RIGHT NOW, young apprentice, so help me, I will"-
I yawned and got out of bed. "I'm up, I'm up!" I announced to my yelling mentor, Gladius.
"Oh, finally! Thank the Nether! I thought you'd never wake up! Come on, it's your day to do Creeper Patrol!" cried my mentor.
"Oh. Geez, sorry!" I'd forgotten all about it, and I’d slept in late. "Ok, I'll have breakfast, and then I'll do it."
"No! What are you thinking? What happens if you just go out for a stroll and then a Creeper blows up on you? What happens if there are other monsters around? What happens if...." Gladius kept asking as we went down the ladder. Gladius was going into the first level, while I was hoping to sneak into the kitchen/dining room, which was the second level. "What happens if... aaaaaaaggh!!!"
I ran down to the first level and saw my ground floor of my house, as well as my mentor, get destroyed by an exploding Creeper standing outside my window.
"Noooooo...." I screamed, only having time to race back to the kitchen to escape the explosion.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion. But then I realised. This was my big moment to show my Mentor, whether he was walking around as a ghost or not (we hadn't unpacked the Death books in the boxes in the Library yet), how much of a warrior I was. I grabbed a sword.
Creeper Patrol was new to me. Gladius had been teaching me, though. Since we lived right next to a forest, there was usually a Creeper around our house. Occasionally a spider or Enderman, sometimes even a skeleton, but usually a Creeper.
When my parents were killed by a horde of Ghasts and Zombie Pigmen on their honeymoon to the Nether, my father's grandmother's sister's second-cousin's daughter's boyfriend's uncle came to look after me, to be my tutor, parent, mentor, and friend.
Stop daydreaming, I told myself. I finished Creeper Patrol with no monsters. I couldn't go back in the house as the first level had gone, and I had barely survived the drop from the kitchen to the ground coming outside, so I went to my Secret Chest. I dug it up, with all my diamond weapons, and heaps of wood to rebuild.
As I was replacing the blocks, I cursed at myself some more. "You should be a-sheep-ed of yourself", "Stupid, STUPID!”, and “Son of a Blaze!”
All that tiring work made me realise how hungry I was. Oh, some fish and apples would be amazing, and how I was dying for Mushroom Stew.
Wait. Dying? That's it! I thought. "Light bulb moment!" I said to myself.
I quickly placed the door in the right spot then ran inside. Up to the library I sped, looking through all the bookshelves, grabbing at any random title. “A History of Silverfish, no... Endermen Aren’t Nice, no... no... no, no, no!”
I walked past Mobs: A Guide, and So You Think You Can Outrun A Ghast: Your Favourite TV Show In Pages, as well as Craftin’ Time, How to Tame a Wolf, and countless others. And then, finally, Death: All There Is to Know, right next to Hostile Mobs and How to Stop Them.
I picked up the book and started reading.

Death is cruel. Eventually, everyone comes to him. He is merciless, almost. We do not know what happens when you die in Minecraftia. Some suggest: reincarnation into another body without knowing your previous life; coming back to life, either as a baby or current age, knowing all you do now (this is called spawning); heaven; becoming a ghost ;turning into a Mob (mostly zombie, but occasionally skeleton, depending on the stage of death); or the mythical HERO BRINE.
In the space between “HERO” and “BRINE”, there was a strange mark that looked like this:

I supposed it was just to mark a dash, to join the words together, even though it seemed too fat for it.
I flicked through the pages, labelled: REINCARNATION, SPAWNING AND BLIND SPAWNING, HEAVEN OR HADES, GHOST, MONSTERS, and THE HERO-BRINE.
REINCARNATION wasn’t very helpful. It said that If, reincarnated, a dead person returned, there is a 99.9% chance that they would not remember who they were, and, though they would bear a small resemblance to their previous body, whether a small tattoo or the same colour hair, it would be hard to recognize them even if you knew what reincarnation is, due to the crowds of people in Minecraftia.
Wow, I thought. I never realised- there must be other worlds, because there is only me, Gladius, and the mobs here. I need to keep reading this book!
Because Reincarnation was so annoying, I flipped to the next page: SPAWNING AND BLIND SPAWNING. Nothing. I kept turning the pages until something caught my eye. It was me! A picture of me in the book! But then I looked closer. The man in the book looked like me, but had glowing eyes. This must be the Hero-Brine.
Hero-Brine is a man with piercing glowing eyes. He looks like the average Minecraftian. However, his personality is the total opposite. Sometimes he will stalk the person, disappearing if followed, and never having any contact, but most of the time, if he is near, he will make small pyramids or traps that lead into empty or Monster-filled dungeons, and then teleport behind a person and kill them. Somewhat a ghost, he appears to people who make fun of his death. Some believe he knows or keeps the souls of the dead in his castle. Some even call him the Reaper of the Dead. Only by defeating him can you unlock the key to death.
And then, I knew what I had to do.
