Three Reasons I Would Never Trust Regina with My Child

As much as I love Regina and Lana's complicated and sympathetic interpretation of The Evil Queen I can't help but feel like Emma is in fact in the right when it come to Henry. Regina may have done a great job raising Henry so far but the truth is that she is a sociopath bouncing back and forth between truly caring for the children that come into her life and blaming them for being the cause of her misery. Here are the three biggest reasons why I would never trust Regina with my child.

1. Henry Sr.

At the end of "The Things you Love Most" when the camera pans down from Regina's stoney face to her sons name etched in granite. It is far from a stretch of the imagination to picture a different body below that tombstone. This scene sent shivers down my spine and was the moment that I realized that despite the charm and relatability Lana gave her character Regina was not to be trusted.

2. Hansel and Gretel

It's hard to make an argument for Regina's love for children after watching "True North". It begins with her sending two children (likely many more) on a suicide mission. After they manage to return alive she asks them to leave their father and stay with her and they decline. Then out of spite she sends them into the woods alone going out of her way to ensure that they will never get home. Is this they fate of children that defy her, doomed to endlessly wandering the woods alone. Once again not a good sign for the willful Henry.

3. Owen/Greg

Unpopular opinion but I hated Regina far more then Greg in "Second Star to the Right". I don't blame him for what he did to Gina. Putting aside my personal affection towards her she sort of deserved it. She took his father from him and didn't even have the decency to show remorse. When he dug up that skull in the woods I nearly cried. She killed a boys father for no better reason then to punish him for not staying with her. This is one of those unforgivable things that keeps me from rooting for Regina.

To be clear I'm not saying that Regina have no right to be called Henrys mother. She raised him and did a pretty good job of it too. She will always be his mother and there is nothing she or anyone else can do to change that. Even if she never see's Henry again (god, please no!) she will still be his mother, just like Emma although she gave him up will still also always be his mother. You don't get to chose who your parents are. It just doesn't work that way.

What I am saying is that despite doing very well so far Regina's bi-polar reactions regarding children make it very easy to agree with putting Henry primarily in Emma's care. She does not however get to say MY SON because that is just not true. Henry is THEIR son and Regina has every right to be a part of his life.

minervadawn I love Cora. Barbara is awesome she was an incredible villain. I wish we could have had more of her. With all the other villains turning into anti-heros it was good to have someone you can root against. she was just so beautifully despicable. And Rose was just amazing so dark and seductive. Her and Rumple are one of my favorite ships... way better then Rumpbelle IMO.

DR76 This article is bullshit. Regina knows more about raising a child than Emma would ever know. Who is Emma to criticize? And Regina is not a sociopath. If she is, so is Rumpel. And I don't see you eager to label him one. ["I agree Neal is a better parent than Cora but let's be honest, we don't know what would actually happen do we?"] Neal DOES NOT know how to be a parent. He knows how to be a kid's good buddy. His willingness to use Robin Hood's son in that matter does not impress me. And if Regina and Emma ever get into a custody battle over Henry, BOTH WILL LOSE. Storybrooke's position as a magical town with no real history will not serve Regina. And Emma's criminal past and willingness to give up Henry in the first place will not serve her. As for Neal . . . isn't he still wanted by the cops?

TDDD Wow, this article got a lot of traffic since I was last here. Okay, as far as I know about the law (which isn't a lot really) Minervadawn is right about the order of succession, so to speak. The thing is if the law knew everything, Regina would be deemed unfit because she's killed and kidnapped children before. Cora ditto. Neal is still wanted by the cops so he wouldn't get it. Rumple - same as Cora and Regina. Despite the fact that Emma gave him up and has a criminal record she might get him depending on the judge. It's clear she wants him and her crime was fairly minor compared to the others. If Emma didn't get him then Snowing would. They have killed yes, but according to the law it was ever only in self defense. Personally I think Snowing are the best choice of parents for Henry. Someone said that they always just seem to give him to Ruby when they're looking after him but isn't that the point of a babysitter? MM and David and Emma all have jobs and responsibilities that need to be attended to. What are they going to do? bring Henry to the Sheriff's office with them? Cora wasn't a good mother to me when she was in Storybrooke. Yes, she comforted Regina but the ability to comfort someone is not proof that they are top class parent material. Cora encouraged Regina to kill, lie, use magic. She framed her for murder so that Regina would only have Cora to turn to. Taking away your daughter's support system in a fit of jealousy is not good parenting. Regina knows the logistics of raising a child. She gives discipline, feeds him, makes sure he has a bed-time, makes sure he gets to school and does his homework. This are all necessary things which have to be done when raising a child but there's more to it than that. Henry grew up feeling unloved. It's something he says in the very first episode - "She doesn't love me. She just pretends to." Regina may love him and I believe she does but the relationship between Regina and Henry is not healthy. Whew, this was longer than it was supposed to be.

Evilregal14 Well that's your opinion and I think she was so let's just leave it at that. Snowing aren't fit parents to Emma let alone Henry, they're idiots! They can't even look after themselves. God help Henry if they got him, poor kid. Emma definitely wouldn't get him, she gave up her rights. I think Cora or Neal would get him most definitely. And Snow killed Cora (not in self defence, for revenge. Which is still MURDER.)

TDDD In all fairness though, it would be far easier for them to be parents to Henry than to Emma. Emma doesn't need the type of parents they are - parents to a child. I'm not quite sure by what you mean about Snowing being idiots unable to look after themselves. Honestly, that comes across as just your negative opinion of them getting in the way. It's surprising though that you feel Cora would be a far better parent than Snowing, considering how caring and supportive Snowing are of Henry and how dreadfully abusive Cora was to her own daughter. I'm not quite sure how the law works when it comes to a birth mother coming back into the child's life but if they learned the adopted mother wasn't suitable, the birth mother wanted him and only gave him up due to circumstance she might get it depending on the judge. I'm not sure about the laws on that though. Snow didn't kill Cora for revenge - if she did it would certainly be murder. The way I saw it being portrayed was that she was getting rid of a terrible threat to her's and her family's lives. Cora was going to kill them all unless she was stopped, Snow saw an opportunity to stop her and did. It's a very grey area and again it would depend on the judge and jury what sort of penalty she would get but I doubt they'd punish her with the penalty for first-class murder considering the very real threat Cora posed to their welfare.

Evilregal14 No it was murder, a producer (Jane I think) said it was out of revenge in an interview (can't remember where, I'll try to find it) She definitely killed her for revenge for her mother and Johanna. It was sick and twisted what she did, she can't look after Henry. No matter what reason she killed her, it's still murder. Cora wasn't really abusive, only using magic on her.

TDDD If you can find it, that'd be great. =) But if she did kill her to protect herself and her family, wouldn't it be worse if she didn't do it? If Snow had the opportunity to protect herself, her husband, her daughter etc. and didn't take it and her family then died, wouldn't that be a worse thing for her to do? Anyway, the way I saw it Cora was definitely abusive. She emotionally manipulated Regina; planned her life without her consent; married her off to a strange man; killed the man she did love; prevented her from leaving an unhappy household and living the life [i]she[/i] wanted. Just because Cora never hit her doesn't mean she didn't abuse her.

Evilregal14 Cora did love her daughter you can't deny that. She was doing what she thought was right, out of love for Regina. (Adam and Eddy said this on stable boy commentary) ^ Whatever happened she shouldn't have tricked Regina into killing her own mother that's just sick. Plus if Snow gave Gina cora's heart back uncursed that would stop her wouldn't it? Rumpel is worse than Cora, if anyone deserved to die it was him.

TDDD Oh, I don't deny that Cora loved Regina. But just because you love someone it doesn't stop you hurting them. Cora's mindset was very twisted and doing what she believed was the right thing for Regina only damaged her, and damaged her badly. Love doesn't automatically make someone a good parent and that goes for both Cora and Regina. I agree with you about Snow tricking Regina - she shouldn't have done it and it was wrong. But how was Snow supposed to know that giving back Cora's heart would make her a kind person? If she'd given back the heart un-cursed and it did nothing Snow would have just given away the only advantage they had over someone who wanted to kill her entire family. No-one could fight against her at this stage and cursing her heart was the only sure way of saving her family. I view this as Snow having a terrible choice to make - save her family or become the type of person she had always strived to fight and to be the opposite of. Why did you bring up Rumple? This conversation had nothing to do with him?

Evilregal14 Because if she didn't curse Cora's heart, Cora probably wouldn't want to kill them all. It was worth a shot. I'm saying if Cora's heart wasn't cursed, Rumpel would die and only 2-3 people would care, he's caused more misery than Cora has. And even though what Cora was doing to Regina was evil at least she was trying to do what was best for Regina. That's what annoyed me, tricking Regina into doing it, that's even more low than some things Rumpel/Regina/cora has done.

TDDD I don't know - I think our opinion differs on these points and that's it. You think it was worth a shot that Cora would not want to kill them all with a heart. I, on the other hand, don't blame Snow for not wanting to gamble the lives of her family and loved ones on the goodness of a woman who very recently killed an innocent woman for fun. Heart or no heart that's shocking to witness and Graham, despite not having a heart, would never have done such a thing. How was Snow supposed to know that Cora's two personalities didn't match when Graham didn't change at all without a heart? Life is life. I don't judge whether someone is more deserving of death because of how many people love them. That doesn't really connect in my head. Besides, if you're using that logic [i]Cora[/i] is the person most deserving of death because the [i]only[/i] person who would miss her is Regina - literally. Anyway, Rumple was far more important to Snow at the time. Which should she have picked? Save Cora who wanted to destroy her family, and let Rumple die when he was fighting to save it? Or the other way around? No, I'm very much on Snow's side in this. She had a terrible decision to make and chose the option that would help her family. She did an appalling thing in tricking Regina into putting the heart back in but how else could that have been done? The heart needed to go back in and no-one other than Regina could have done it.

TDDD Can someone without magic put a heart back in? I actually always wondered this because you certainly need magic to take one out. How is he worse? We've seen him do horrible things, yes, but he's never slaughtered an entire village of men women and children because he can't find a young woman he has a personal vendetta against. Regina didn't even kill them for a reason - she killed them because she could, because she had the power. She kidnapped children, used them as bait, separated them from their parents all out of spite. As far as I can remember from the show I don't see any case where Rumple tops the things Regina has done. Cora has never really acted against innocent people like Regina but she too kills indiscriminately. She killed an innocent man to cover up the fact she had kidnapped Archie with the intent to torture him. But it's Cora actions towards Regina that cement my opinion that she's a terrible person, and I know you disagree with me and think what she did was okay so I'll just move on. Rumple has been awful, yes, but more awful than Regina and Cora? I personally don't think so.

minervadawn @DR76 Rumple is definitely a sociopath just as bad if not worse then Regina. This article however is not about Rumple it is about Regina. I gave examples from the show (I didn't make them up) of terrible things she has done to people who she once cared for. This is textbook sociopath. Although Regina is a more experienced mother then Emma, if Henry was my child I wouldn't want him anywhere near someone who had done what Gina did to Hansel Gretel and Owen. Not to mention what she did to the only other person she loved. @Evilregal14 and TDDD They are all horrible people excusing anyone of there actions by comparing them to another is ridiculous. Just because someone is less bad then someone else doesn't make them good.

Diamond_Queen OMG 39 comments *.* First, I'm glad if my list helped :3 haha @TDDD, (I know this is from a long time ago but I only saw the comments now xD) I was the one that said something about Ruby. I didn't mean what you said. What I meant was that the Charmings only seem to remember their friendship with Ruby when they need her for something (like babysitting). Ruby's always there to help anyone, even minor characters and i don't like to feel like they're using her. I partly agree with this article and partly not but it is 100% not fair to call it bullshit. Minervadawn clearly stated that it was only her opinion and gave pretty reasonable examples. How is that bullshit? I think Regina has done some terrible things but that's not the person she's now and she's trying very hard for Henry. And anout what you guys were discussing, I think Rumpel is no worse than Gina or Cora. In fact, I always thought Cora was the most evil out of this three cuz I felt that her actions were the least justifiable, but that's just me :) (I'd explain my reasons but I'm really tired right now xD)

I would like to ask you to refrain from judging me because I love Rumpel. I certainly don't judge you because you love Cora and I expect the same treatment. You may dislike Rumpel and I may dislike Cora, but we don't need to be spiteful to each other. Now, to address your comment: I love Rumpel very much (he's my favorite character) but I have never inferred that he has not done awful things (he HAS) but I see that he is working to change himself and make up for the wrongs he's done. These kind of characters have always been closest to my heart - the villains with a change of heart that try to redeem themselves in spite of obstacles in their way. Furthermore, I do not think that Rumpel is better than Regina or Hook (for example)as they are in the same boat - they are all trying to change themselves for the better. Lastly, you've stated that Rumpel is "much worse" "deserves to die" and elsewhere you've called him a demon. You are entitled to your own opinions but please remember that they are just your opinions; these are not facts. I happen to love Rumpel (as I have stated) and I think King George is "much worse" than any character on the show (and this is only my opinion).

Diamond_Queen ^completely agreed! :) I love Rumpel too. If he and Regina weren't around there would be no show for me. They're to a huge extent the reason why I'm so addicted to the show. I think all our main villains are PERFECT as characters just the way they are (extremely complex and so much fun to watch) I can't complain about any of them: Rumpel, Gina, Cora and Hook. Yes, they can be pure evil sometimes but that's part of the reason why they are so awesome and we love them:)

SherlockStark @Diamond_Queen: :D I think it's fun that we agree on so many things on this show :) @Evilregal14: I know that you weren't calling me out, specifically, but every time you say "Rumpel fan" it is including me, and I took offence because I do not think the statement that you used "Rumpel fan" in was true. I know that some fans can be very rude in their comments about characters/ships they dislike. If I ever come across a King George fan, for example, I will need to be careful about how I come across ;) In spite of some rude comments about characters/ships/etc. we love, I think we should try not to be guilty of the same thing. I don't see anything wrong with forming our own strong opinions, but we should be considerate of other people's opinions and not compare. Just because a few Rumpel fans were inconsiderate about your love for Cora doesn't give you the right to be inconsiderate about our love for Rumpel.

SherlockStark ^ I understand; I feel defensive when Cora fans say worse things about Rumpel. But I don't think "getting your say" makes anything better, it just makes the fight bigger. I could have had many fights with people over spiteful things they've said about characters and ships that I love, but I believe it's better to disagree politely or to just ignore them. Again, I'm not saying that we can't share our opinions, there are simply different ways to say the same thing. For example: "Cora deserves to die, who the f*ck likes her? (or even worse)" is a whole lot different than "I really hate Cora." One is passing pretty extreme judgment on not only the character, but also the fans of the character; the other is sharing your opinion of the character without bringing the fans of that character into it. Who are your top 5 characters? Lol, I wouldn't think there would be any King George fans, but you never know ;)

How I Feel About The Regina and Zelena Situation

Recently I was discussing with Katara and Audrey the situation with Zelena and Regina. The situation being that argument the pair have in Regina's office where Regina blames Zelena for Robin's death and Zelena gets angry at Regina for splitting herself. Naturally I had to take a stance on this an really I found that I was sympathetic to both characters.

The first point of interest is that Zelena is angry at Regina for going to Snow for advice as opposed to her. It is my belief that Snow was simply there at the right place at the right time. Zelena simply wasn't there. In fact, if I remember...
