Samuel is thinking about Vanessa when at the same time, Noah is trying to find out more about Samuel and looks into people that used to be in his life. He finds out about Vanessa and along with Matt, he tracks her down (she's a cello player and they catch her after an orchestra rehearsal) and convinces her to call Samuel and set up a meeting. Apparently Samuel had been getting in contact often with Vanessa, as they used to be a couple once, and he wants her in his life.
Noah's trap fails though, as Samuel manages to get away with Vanessa, with the help of Eli and by cracking asphalt and swirling gravel around Noah.
Samuel brings Vanessa to the carnival, but she is upset and wants to go home. He explains that the day she was to come to the carnival was supposed to have been perfect and that he only did it they way he did because of Noah. He treats her lovingly and says that there is something very beautiful he wants her to see and if that isn't enough to make her stay, she's free to go.

I've thought about this day for so long, Vanessa, the day you would arrive. It wasn't supposed to be like this, everything was supposed to be perfect. (Samuel to Vanessa)
