I was dreaming so peacefully, well, until my phone rang. ‘’...How bad can I possibly be?...’’ I sighed and rolled over to pick up the phone. ‘’....’ello?’’ I mumbled. It was Luna. ‘’ … you don’t sound happy...’’ ‘’....you woke me up....’’ ‘’Sorry! I thought you’d be awake by now--’’ I cut her off. ‘’...What time is it?!’’ I looked around to find my alarm clock. I couldn’t read it anyways, and I couldn’t find my glasses. ‘’Its 12pm! I’ll be home in like... an hour!’’ She was excited, I could tell. I forgot to respond-- I was too busy looking for my stupid glasses. ‘’...Veto? You still there?’’ She mumbled. ‘’Oh. Yeah. I’m just... looking.. thats all.’’’ I hopped out of bed- and stepped on them. ‘’Awww!’’ I sighed. ‘’What?’’ ‘’I stepped on my glasses--’’ ‘’You wear glasses?!’’ She sounded pretty shocked. ‘’Oh... yeah... I had them since... junior... high I think...’’ I was tired and I said everything very slowly. ‘’You never wore them..’’ ‘’ … I don’t... look good in glasses..’’ I mumbled, sounding full of myself. ‘’Not that..... I--’’ ‘’Oh crap! I gotta go!’’ She hung up. ‘’ … Look nice without them anyways.’’ I continued and I threw the phone on the bed and picked up my broken glasses. I very slowly walked out to the kitchen. ‘’Pfft.. You’re finally up!’’ Daniel chuckled. People often tell me I should get my own place, but it just wouldn’t feel right. You know, leaving Daniel alone, after only actually knowing him for less than 12 years. Huh, longer than I thought.

‘’... I broke my glasses...’’ I mumbled while setting them next to Daniel. ‘’Nice going,kid!’’ he patted me on the head. Even though I’m clearly not a kid, he still calls me that. ‘’...nice beard...’’ I didn’t want to stay on the breaking my glasses subject. ‘’Beard?’’ He stroked his chin. ‘’This?’’ He pointed towards a tiny patch of hair on his chin. Like the kinda thing Duncan has. I’m not thinking straight, so I don’t remember what its actually called. ‘’...yeah...that...it doesn’t suit you.... you look like a ...mexican greaser...’’ Okay.... that didn’t come out right. He glared at me. ‘’....I didn’t mean that....’’ … Maybe I did. Not sure. Either way, his dark hair was all slicked back, he always did that as far as I know, and he had a nice tan....No, that isn’t what I meant after all. I often questions if we did come from the same parents. Daniel tans, while I seem to get paler. If thats possible, I’m not sure. I’m paler than a ginger... No Thats not what I meant. You know what? I’m just gonna stop thinking this morning.

After ‘this morning’. I forgot everything. Maybe not everything, but it seemed like it at the time. I just layed there and stared at the ceiling. After staring- and forgetting- Luna called again. I’ve been laying here for a while. I guess I did stop thinking after all. I’ve been sitting here for almost 2 hours. ‘’Veto! I’m home now! COME OVER!’’ She screamed in my ear and hung up. I don’t even remember where she lived...or lives I guess. ‘’Hey Danny...’’ Its been awhile since I called him Danny... ‘’Need a drive?’’ He sighed. I nodded and ran down to my room. Gotta get changed. Can’t go in pyjama pants. At least I had pyjama pants on....And no, I don’t mean I sleep completely naked. ‘’Hurry up!’’ Daniel called out from the porch.

On the way there, I saw Jinx sitting alone by a fountain. That was Jakes favorite spot to hang out. Was. Jinx looked really sad. Almost like she would start crying any minute. Every Time I saw Jinx or Gabe or any of his friends. It just made me think of Jake. I hated thinking about Jake. It just made me think about... that day...

January 31st 2017.

Jinx, Gabe, Luke and I were heading towards Jakes house. To surprise him. He's been real down the past few months. Even more depressed than normal. He wrote things about his parents on his walls. Horrible things. But his parents got worse as Jake got older. He came outside one day, full of cuts, bruises and blood. A black eye too. His old man is harsh. Real harsh. Jake often would sit there, breathing heavily, curled up in a ball saying he couldn’t take it. And he really couldn’t. We ran inside his house, to find the doors unlocked and no one home. Luke quickly came running out of Jakes room. Shaking,panicked and crying. ‘’J-Jake.... H-he couldn’t t-take it!’’ Luke stuttered while biting his nails. ‘’He r-really couldn’t...’’ He started to cry even harder. ‘’H-he …. h-he did i-t...’’ he quietly mumbled. We all automatically ran down to Jakes room. He was in his closet.... We all looked away. Expect for Gabe, he couldn’t look away as he mumbled ‘’We could have helped him....’’ I nearly threw up. Jinx quickly ran out of Jakes room without saying a word. ‘’N-no.. we did a-all ….we c-could...’’ Luke tried to put his hand on Gabes shoulder but Gabe quickly pushed Lukes hand away. I noticed there was a folded piece of paper on Jakes dresser. I picked it up and read it out loud. ‘’To Gabe,Luke,Ryan,Veto and my lovely Jinx.’’ I looked up to notice I had everyone's attention. There was a huge note to us. We all had separate paragraphs. Jinx was definitely the sweetest , but the saddest. There was lyrics from songs all over his floor and walls...

I could tell he was going to write more, but there was tear stains all over the page and his writing on the walls got worse.For the rest of the day, we all went to his favorite spots and shared our best memories of him. Ryan came along too...And Jake was 18. I was actually proud of him, hes been trying to do that since he was 14.... At least he didn't take his own life at that age...right?

We finally reached Lunas house. ‘’Veto!’’ Luna came running out of the house pulling my into a hug right as I got out of the car. Daniel smiled and drove off. ‘’ Been awhile, huh?’’ I wasn’t really sure of what to say...’’You look so different!’’ She pinched my cheek. ‘’I do?’’ I thought I looked the same, just taller and a little more muscular. ‘’Yeah!’’ She flicked my hair. It was almost the same, it was longer. I need a haircut. Daniels always telling me to get it cut or I’ll be forever alone. ‘’Oh, yeah...’’ I smiled. She gave me a look and just stared at me. ‘’..what?’’ she just kept staring. ‘’uuhhh...’’I looked around.

‘’Sorry! you just look so different without braces.’’ she smiled and kept staring. ‘’yeah...’’ I finally got them off almost 2 years ago. ‘’Your teeth are so perfect now...Not that they weren’t before... but they’re really straight and white...’’ She trailed off. I wasn’t sure how to respond to that.... ‘’I’m being weird.... sorry...I’m just trying to become a dentist.. and....’’-A dentist? Her? She didn’t seem like the dentist type to me. ‘’..teeth interest me!’’ I just awkwardly smiled. She was awfully close to my face. ‘’Gah! I’m sorry! Lets go inside!’’ She grabbed my hand and basically dragged me inside.
Moving away sure made her weird and … kinda crazy. Maybe its just because shes so excited. Lets just hope its ‘cause shes excited.


For the whole day, we basically told each other what we’ve been up to for that past few years. Luna was trying to get into a dentist school thing. ‘’Enough about me! What have you been doing?’’ She moved closer. ‘’...nothing actually...’’ and thats pretty much the truth. I’ve made a few new friends, caught Toby doing some sort of drugs and vandalism and got him sent to jail, been to a Nicki Minaj concert....Hung out with Valencia, Maddie and Paige a lot... and had my first kiss.

‘’You had to been doing something!’’ she laughed. I shrugged. She laughed more. Then I thought, I have been up to something. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and shopping, or at least trying. I’ve been trying to find the perfect ring. I couldn't find a good one anywhere. I bought the best I could afford anyways. But I couldn’t exactly tell her that. Not yet anyways.

We ended up going to the park and watched the sunset. Real pretty. I love sunsets. Weird, I know. We enjoyed watching it. At least I tried to. Luna wouldn’t shut up. At one point, we ended up throwing dead grass at each other. It was fun. Until she threw some in my mouth. That was gross. So I stuffed some down her shirt and she freaked out. ‘’Hey!’’ She started wiping the grass away. We both laughed and chased each other with grass. We always did stuff like that when we first started hanging out. We walked down the street to the closest store,bought some candy and threw it at each other while running down the sidewalk. And that... that made me feel like I was 12 again.
