I covered my eyes with my trembling fists then moved to cover my ears and tried to muffle the agonized howling.

You were the one howling idiot!

I shut my mouth and squeezed my eyes shut as my body convulsed with pain. Pain like I never knew before.

Damn it! This is too much.

I gritted my teeth as a tortured moan escaped my lips.

“Jake!” Nessie gasped. She stepped away from him and tentatively walked towards me.

I took a deep breath and counted up to sixty before I looked up to her. I was on my knees on the ground. She was standing in front of me, her arms outstretched halfway towards me. A myriad of emotions warred in her pale face – shock, pain, grief, confusion, guilt, regret.

I wanted to see something else… how about love…for me?

I shakily stood up. I couldn’t stop myself from trembling. I don’t want to phase this close to her. I fought for control.

His arm snaked immediately around her waist as she took another step closer to me. I growled.

or did I howled in pain? I don't know.

“Be careful, Nessie. He’s too angry to control himself.”

“I wouldn’t hurt her.” I said through gritted teeth. “How dare you touch her?! Let her go!”

I wanted to punch him senseless…

“Are you sure, wolf?” He drawled disdainfully.

How did he know?

“It’s alright, Vincent. Jake won’t hurt me.” She winced - for I have already hurt her. I wanted to drop on my knees again and beg her forgiveness. Is it too late for me? Is it too late for us?

“What are you doing here, Jake?” She calmly asked.

What?! What kind of question is that?!

“Sorry I ruined your rendezvous.” I gruffly said.

She looked away and bit her trembling lip. I saw her hands clenched into fists.

I wanted to hit my head on the ground.

“Since when did you prefer blondes?” I spat.

My brows furrowed. Damn it! I sound bitter than hell!

Way to go, Jake! Hooray! You’ll win her back this way, you imbecile! A voice ranted on my mind.

I can’t help it. My insides are tearing apart. I gasped for breath.

Why, Nessie, why?

“J-Jake, I’m s-sorry.” Nessie said, tears welling in her eyes, now.

Sorry? Is she telling me she’s sorry for choosing the stupid blonde guy over me? Is that it? Is she asking for forgiveness for trampling on my dumb heart like this? Is she saying sorry because it’s over?

I don’t want to know.

“Jake, let me explain…” She took a step forward. I took a step back.

I shook my head. “There’s nothing to explain, Nessie. I saw it with my own eyes.”

Her beautiful face crumpled with pain, tears now falling silently down her cheeks.

“Who is he, Nessie?” I softly asked and closed my eyes.

This is it.
She didn’t answer so I reluctantly opened my eyes.

Her beautiful eyes begged me for forgiveness. The blonde guy took stepped closer to her. I growled menacingly. His eyes narrowed.

‘Can’t you leave us alone? This doesn’t concern you.” I glowered at him.

“I think this concerns me. You couldn’t order me around.” He said flatly, his brows furrowing, he glared darkly at me.

I flexed my muscles…I can take down this guy in a minute…

“Jake, Vincent, please….”

He took a deep breath and turned towards her. “Do you want me to leave, Nessie?”

“N-no…I don’t know..”

“Choose.” I said softly.

“W-what?”

“Choose between us. Is it me or him?” I said not looking directly at her.

His face jerked up in surprise and resentment. Nessie’s face became paler, her mouth frozen in a shocked O.

“You don’t have to do this, Nessie. You don’t have to choose. I’ll go.” He softly said.

Playing the good guy, aren’t we?

“No, Vincent…”

He shook his head.

“What, Nessie? Is it me or this Vincent?”

I have to bank on the time we spent together, our entwined lives, the love we shared….

Please, let her choose me….

“I c-can’t…I won’t.”

“Why not, Nessie? Why not?!” I demanded. “Why can't you just get this over with?”

Vincent hissed. He stood in front of Nessie.

“You don’t know what you’re saying. Why are you doing this to her?” He demanded.

“What?! Are you afraid he’ll choose me over you?” I said arrogantly.

“What if she chose me? Have you ever considered that?” He whispered softly yet clearly. His eyes daring me to answer his questions.

His words rung in my ears…

It would kill me.

Somehow, I have to make her see. We belong together.

I have to touch her.

I have to kiss her.

I seized her roughly on the waist and pulled her closer to me then I kissed her hard on her lips.

As our lips met, my heart immediately soared.

Choose me, Nessie, choose me. I will never hurt you, again.

I was completely wrapped up in our kiss I didn’t realize she was squirming to free herself from my tight embrace.

“NO, JACOB! NO!”

“CAN’T YOU SEE YOU’RE HURTING HER?!” Vincent growled, trying to break Nesie free.

I let her go and immediately her hand slapped me hard on the face.

It stung…

She doesn’t want me….

I don’t know which stung more…my slapped face or my crushed heart.

She turned on me with anger and defiance.

“You can’t treat me like a yoyo, Jacob Black. You can’t just break my heart into a tiny million pieces and expect it to wait for you to make it whole again.” She hissed vehemently.


I couldn’t look at her.

I couldn’t deal with the pain.

I couldn't deal with the truth.

“You can’t just expect my world to revolve around you. It used to, Jacob, it used to. You can’t just expect me to wrap my arms you and kiss you like before w-when you’ve hurt me so much.” She whispered brokenly.

Vincent wrapped his arms around her. She shrugged them away.

“Don’t jump to conclusions, Vincent. You don’t own me, either.” She said flatly and walked away.

I wanted to follow her.

I never want to let her go.

But I couldn’t….

She’s gone….

I looked at him, defiance and arrogance wiped entirely away from my face.

“She’s the only one for me. Don’t take her away.”
