Off I go to get Bella. It doesn't make sense. Bella just dashed after her and didn't return. I whirled into the thick trees. Ariella and Bella were like identical twins by personality. I was starting to believe Alice was getting a bit jealous. I first noticed the absolute clue when she came whizzing up behind. "Alice, what are you doing? Go back home. It's fine." I ordered. "No," she replied simply. I didn't go on more. I knew she cared about Bella. We found her leaning over a shaking Ariella, shock spreading on her face. Sounds bristled in the woods. The guard was departing. Aro and Jane had disappeared, too. Bella whispered as quiet as possible: "Aro bit her." But, why? And how? It was too strange. My thoughts began ringing with a message sent obviously by Ariella:
Aro said something like, if you bite a vampire, they become human again. Is that true? Can that happen? It sounds to me like reincarnation gone the opposite way. If it's true, I'm not sure Aro would let a mortal with the secret walk the streets. If he knows what he's talking about, I may have to leave you.
Ariella cringed at this message. Bella was in denial, whispering "No...no...no..." Alice glided forward and bent down to soothe Bella, then gave Ariella a sorrowful glance. I gently lifted her and darted for the house. Everyone else had heard the message. Rosalie and Esme were sitting on the couch, Jasper and Emmett standing in the background. All of them had worried faces except Rosalie. Her face was blank, but her thoughts were filled with misery. Carlisle came rushing down the stairway. I handed him Ariella with one last note from her:
Tell Bella I'll miss her.
I nodded and Carlisle went back up the stairs with her. He came back down alone minutes later. "It's true. She's returning human." Bella gasped and her face filled with pain. No one did anything for the most of two days. Then a figure with a delightful smell of citrus arose. Emmett had to hold back Jasper a bit but he was under control. She walked up to Bella, knowing about her self control. Her eyes were green now, and blood flooded her cheeks the way Bella's used to. She must have remembered everything because she said to Bella: "I'll never forget you guys. This necklace will never leave me. Maybe we'll see each other again someday." She closed her eyes. With one tear shed, Ariella ran out and didn't come back. Bella leaped into my arms. "I'm gonna miss her." were the only words she said until dawn the next morning.
