Oh dear god, I have never watched an anime that has messed with my sanity more then Corpse Party. (Warning, some spoilers)
Corpse Party was a game that was released for the PSP, yet was created back in 1994. It still stands as one of the greatest pixilated horror games of all time. So great, in fact, that it got its own anime. Kinda like Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon, and Kirby. Anyway, this anime only lasted for four episodes. However, those four episodes are enough to fuck with your sanity more then an asylum having a field day.
So the first episode starts with some harmless ghost stores. sadly, thats as innocent as this anime is going to get. Of course, the beginning seems pleasant. You've got a group of happy friends, some caring feelings, and even that anime joke where a guy accidently grabs a woman's... Well, you get the picture. Anyway, after a huge fuck-up (And I mean HUGE) they get sent into this other school... for some reason, and then, the horror ensues. Now, I have watched some brutal stuff in my time, but One: I can handle stuff made by people who don't actually have a TV budget, like Happy Tree Friends for example, is just a Youtube series
Two: Violence is perfectly fine by me, as long as there's humor or such. Having animated violence with horror, however, really gets me
Three: I can stand live action violence. Don't know why, but I feel more sympathy for animated characters then actual people... not that I don't feel sympathy for actual people, but you get the picture.
Anyway, we then see the first death in the anime. And, its suicide, which just makes this more disturbing. Note, this is the first death in the whole show. And, if that's not bad enough, trust me, it gets a hundred times worse from here.
So, as it goes, some are too scared to care, some are too insane to care, but then there's that one that's too... stupid to care. That character would be the youngest, named Yuka (Or however it was pronounced) I mean, dear god, this kid was just so annoying. So annoying in fact, that the two psychopaths fought over who got to kill her... Okay, maybe they fought over who got to kill her because they were insane, but still, she's so annoying. All she does is whine about having to go to the bathroom. Kid, there are a bunch of ghosts trying to kill you. I think that should be the first thing on your mind. Oh, and she does die later on... DEAR GOD. how old was this kid? I think she was six? Dear god, Corpse Party, that's just wrong. Yeah, she was annoying, but dear god. You actually not only showed a child die, but they showed her getting tortured, which caused her to die. Don't the creators have any shame?
Anyway, after all this brutal violence (I mean brutal. People get mutilated, have there eyes cut out, have there tongues cut off, get smashed into walls, get there whole fucking head obliterated, get decapitated, and yes, it FUCKING BRUTAL)
Anyway, after that, they finally find a way out which I just can't spoil. Yeah, this is one of the most scariest anime ever, but that doesn't make it bad. It actually has a great story, great plot, great characters (For the most part) and the animation, like all anime, is pretty good. But, after that, they finally get out, with only two survivors out of the group. My god, this was scary as hell. And also, the intro to Corpse Party is filled with lies. It has these happy moments showing them outside of the abandoned school, yet through out the whole anime, they never once leave that place. The happy people are a lie. The bright colors and beautiful locations are a lie. The upbeat and catchy music sung in Japanese is a FUCKING LIE.
In other words, if you love anime, or love getting scared, or love a lot of violence, or all of the above, then Corpse Party is well recommended. But, hay, that's only my opinion. What's your Take
