After seeing an April Fool’s joke about the ten best Wind Wanker islands, that got me thinking that I should make my own. And no, not an April Fool’s joke either. I mean a truthful list. Now, before I begin, the rules are that I am not counting any main islands that have dungeons on them, or are major islands. So, Outset Island, Forsaken Fortress, Windfall Island, Dragon Roost Island, Forest Haven, Tower of the Gods, Headstone Island, or Wind Isle are all out. Now, with that said, lets start the list.
#10: Islet of Steel - Now, this is a very strange choice, since this island is filled with enemies, but that what I like about it. The Islet of Steel is a sort of island that is covered with a large steel fort, covered with cannons, and has warships surrounding it. This place just looks like a fort, and I love the design of it. But, it loses points for only being used to hold a Triforce Chart, and after that, there is nothing else to do on the island. That is kind of depressing, since there is so much Nintendo could have done with this island
#9: Angular Isles - This is another island I like for the design. Angular Island is an island that is made up of blocks, that you can push to climb to the top of it. There are two islands here. One way to get to the top is to create a set of stairs, while the other one can be reached with either the Deku Leaf or the Hookshot. The only problem is that, Angular Isles only has a Piece of Heart and a Silver Rupee, and after that, this island will just be ignored. Again, pretty depressing.
#8: Needle Rock Isle - This island is actually pretty interesting. First off, there is the large pointed rock at the top, which you need to use a seagull to hit a switch, which puts out a fire that has a chest in it (It’s Zelda. It’s not supposed to make sense). There is also the small pond that rises, then lowers, which has barrels with five rupees on it. Yeah, this island is real weird, but is does have a lot of interesting things on it, and those were only a few. This island is pretty cool, and I do like what they did with it
#7: Shark Island - Now, this island really knows how to have a puzzle. Basically, this island has you activate four switches at once. Once you do open them in time, you have to go into a hole, fight off a bunch of enemies, and then you will be able to get two hundred rupees. Sure, I would have prefered a Piece of Heart for going through those four unique switches, but I still like what they did with this island.
#6: Ice Ring Isle - Now, some may argue that this is a major island, since it does hold the Iron Boots, which you need to get inside the Wind Temple, but, it is very small, has no inhabitants, and it doesn’t have its own music, so I am counting it. Now, this island is so cold, that if you step foot on it, you will turn to ice, so you need to use the Fire Arrows to temporarily melt the ice. Once there, you’ll need to slide across ice, and you will then be able to get the Iron Boots. Now, this is pretty cool, but what keeps it from being number one is that sliding across the ice can get annoying. Especially since there has to be platforming added
#5: Flight Control Platform - Now, this is less of an island and more of a giant chunk of wood. Basically, what this whole thing offers is a minigame, where you use the Deku Leaf to fly across the sea and try to beat the highscore. It is a pretty fun mini game, but, the only problem, is that there isn’t anything else to do. Not to mention, the mini game does get old after a while
#4: Cliff Plateau Isles - Now, sure, when you first look at this island, it just looks like a simple island, that doesn’t seem to have much. But, trust me, this island has one secret. There is a small island that is too high to reach on foot, and you can’t fly to it, or use your hookshot. The only way to get in is through a hole, which takes you to the Secret Cavern, which is a mini dungeon. It is really cool, and I am glad they added this into the island. Its just so amazing
#3: Boating Course - Now this here is a good island based on mini games. The boating course is an island that only has one thing… Okay, it does have a secret hole, but it has one thing that is more major. The Boating Course…. well, duh, that’s the name of the island. ANYWAY, the Boating Course mini game has you use your boat to race through a trail while collecting rupees, while trying to beat the clock. And once you finish this, you can get a lot of rupees, and trust me, this REALLY helps with the Triforce Shard search. I mean SERIOUSLY, who charges 398 rupees to translate a freaking map
#2: Fire Mountain - Now, why do I prefer Fire Mountain over Ice Ring Isles… well, a few reasons, actually. For starters, it doesn’t have that annoying sliding like on Ice Ring Isle, so I won’t have to worry about screwing up a jump. Also, this island has a really cool design. It’s a giant volcano that constantly fires lava and the only way to get in is to temporarily freeze it with the Ice Arrows. And, inside, is the Power Bracelets, which help you get inside the Headstone Island. Sure, not as cool as the Iron Boots, but still pretty cool
#1: Link’s Oasis - Now, why did I choose this out of all the others. Well, lets start with the fact that, HOLY CRAP, Link has his own freaking island. Does Link from Ocarina of Time have his own island. No. He has like… a tree… thing. Link in Wind Waker has a goddamn island. But, seriously though, the island has a really cool design, and, inside the house, you can get a lot of rupees once you break the vases, so that’s pretty cool. Also, the mini dungeon underneath the Oasis is also really cool. And you can just get this island for helping a teacher deal with a group of annoying kids. What an amazing gift. Easily the best reward in the Legend of Zelda series in my opinion.
Well, there you have it. Did you enjoy the list. Tell me what you thought below. With that, I will see you all next time.
