Chelsea grinned. On the floor was every one of those little brats, and even Batman, and it was all on her. She grinned as she turned away to Brennan, who held the poor seven year old in his grasp. Kenzie was struggling hard, to no avail, her feet kicking nothing but air. “Shh, now, darling, we’ll make it better,” Chelsea soothed, but when the kid looked up, there was a fury Chelsea hadn’t seen in months. “No. No way.”
Kenzie kicked Brennan so hard that he fell to the floor in pain. She landed perfectly on the ground in a fighting stance, then glared up at Chelsea with gleaming gold eyes with tints of red, blue and other colors. She screeched and drew herself up, igniting the air with white flames, and threw them towards Chelsea. The teen backed up quickly, attempting to avoid the child’s wrath, but to no avail as the fire scraped at her arms and legs, singing the skin. Chelsea’s eyes watered from the smoke, but was shocked when the girl brought her arms up. In her hands was no longer white, but golden flames, almost glistening with light and radiating heat.
“You did this.” Chelsea stopped cowering and glanced up in shock. No, still the girl. But she’d spoken with a resonating and powerful voice, crystal clear. It wasn’t Kenzie who’d spoken. It was another girl, another teen, one who wasn’t here. “You’ve hurt everyone, anyone I’ve dared to care for. You’ve broken me down and killed me. I’m not a killer at instinct, at heart, but you made me one.” As she pulled out her katana, flames rained down and sparks fell at Chelsea’s feet.
“Please-why-why are you doing this?” Chelsea begged. Kenzie kicked her in the face, making her nose bleed. The seven-year old was becoming taller, little by little, her hair was growing longer and was becoming lighter in tone. Her eyes were flooded with gold, but laced with blue and filled with anger and distrust. Kenzie clenched the sword tightly, so tightly she herself was bleeding more than she had been before. But as a drop fell onto Chelsea, she grimaced-- it was boiling hot.
A glow of fury engulfed Kenzie and then there was nothing but smoke for a second. And a figure stepped out of the darkness, hair a deep golden brown, eyes clear and glowing orange. She opened her mouth for three words before bringing the blade down.
“It’s karma, bitch.”
Chelsea sunk into the wall and felt herself go unconscious. The figure dropped the sword to the floor, and her hair slowly faded into a darker shade. Tossing a pair of metal cuffs into the air, she guided them onto Chelsea’s limp hands and locked them. Then she pulled a syringe and injected Chelsea with a clear solution. The liquid went red, then shone a little brighter, then became black. Then she waited.
Delta was the first to stir. Her eyes flickered open from behind her glasses and she found a glimpse of a tall, thin figure, with long black hair and flames licking at her feet. Delta pushed herself up a little on the wall and squinted. “Kenzie?” she slurred warily.
The figure turned and smiled. “You wish.”
Delta gave a startled gasp and scrambled to stand. She looked in amazement at the girl. “No fucking way...”
“Kenzie is here, though.” A toddler peered out from behind the teenager’s legs, waving.
Delta gave a small, happy breath that turned into a sincere laugh. She dropped all defenses and latched onto the other girl, giving a small sob. “Don’t-- don’t you ever--” she began, then broke down into tears.
Robin took one look and began laughing and crying. Aisling grasped onto the girl and refused to let go. Devin smiled and hugged her, then lifted the once again four year old Kenzie into her arms. When Batman woke, he gave a nod, turning away and trying to figure out how to get home.
Then the figure did something rash and impulsive. She hugged the large, dark, masked figure, letting out a small sob. “Don’t you dare just nod! I do think of you more than--”
He smiled then, and turned, pulling off his mask. Aisling had known their identities for a while now, and wasn’t surprised when it was suddenly Bruce Wayne the figure was hugging. He smiled and looked down at her, her blue eyes glowing with pure happiness.
“Welcome back, Infinity.”
