She sat on the couch reading a book, but really she wasn't reading or thinking of the words on the pages in front of her. She was really confused and at a loss of why Bentley was acting weird around her as if he were hiding something. She was worried more than confused, she worried she had done something wrong. Had she been too resistant or unsure of trusting him?.
She let out a deep sigh placing the book down on the coffee table and laying there staring up at the ceiling in wonder.
Her phone buzzed on the table next to the book she had just placed down, picking it up she saw that the text was from Bentley that said " meet me on the roof ".
Nothing shocked her by this, he always talked with her and sat up there. It was a get away for him she guessed, he had a rough past and she knew that but she worried about what might be wrong for him to text her to meet him up there.
She got up wearing her jeans and tank top and closed the apartment door behind her as she made her way up to meet him.
She opened the roof entrance door and saw Bentley sitting on the ledge of the roof staring out at the city with his back to her unaware of her presence.
She covered her arms as the breeze from the wind made her cold as she made her way over from behind him, he must have heard her footsteps because he turned around and looked up at her and smiled getting up towering over her with his height.
" Hey " he said smiling slightly looking down at her.
" Hey " Aryess smiled back reaching to her toes to plant a kiss on his cheek, " So what's up? " she asked.
" Just wanted to talk... " he smiled a bit at her placing his hands in her jean pockets as he looked out at the city lights beginning to form as the sun began to set behind tall buildings in the distant.
" Is everything okay? " she asked.
" yeah, everything's fine " he reassured reaching his hand to scratch the back of his head as he paced behind her slightly.
" B, can I be honest with you... " Aryess asked turning her head to her boyfriend.
"Mhm " he replied.
" you've been acting weird all week..and I don't know if I did something wrong, Did I? " she asked.
He looked at her with his grey eyes and shook his head,
" No, No you didn't, ummm " he laughed a bit nervously, " crap...I guess you know what's going on now.... " he finished.
" What do you mean? What's going on...? " she asked looking up at him.
He sighed deeply and stood behind her wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin down on her head.
"Do me a favor and close your eyes " he muttered.
" Why? " she asked turning her head back to look up at him with sparkling grey eyes.
" Do you trust me? Please? " he looked down at her with hopeful eyes.
She sighed deeply facing forward again closing her eyes as she felt herself being turned a certain direction and being stopped.
" No peaking " Bentley whispered in her ear as he slipped his arms away from her waist and stepped back behind her.
" Don't worry I'm not " she replied.
A couple minutes past when she finally was instructed to open her eyes. A billboard on a roof glowed with gold lights that read " Be mine Aryess? ".
She turned her head confused ," B what is th- " she stopped as her eyes fell down to Bentley on one knee holding a ring.
A gasp escaped her lips as she covered her mouth with one hand.
" Umm.... " he laughed a bit looking down and back up to her, " I know this is cheesy but....Will you marry me Aryess ? ".
Tears filled in her eyes as she breathed out, " yes, yes! ".
He laughed standing up as he gently took her hand in his sliding the ring onto her finger.
Aryess hugged him tightly pulling back to lean up as he leaned down for their lips to meet. She pulled back slightly looking up at him with a smile as he faced her to look out at the city pulling her close once more.
" do you see all the buildings and how big the world is " he muttered.
" Mhm.." she muttered back looking up at him.
" Out of all the places and people in the world I end up meeting a beautiful and amazing girl like you..." he muttered down to her as she leaned herself into him embracing the warmth and safe feeling he gave her and would for years to come.
