“What? Megan that's-that's great!” Wally exclaimed. “I can't believe you two were dating but none of us suspected!”
“Kaldur and I didn't need to suspect,” Robin admitted. “We already knew.”
“And I suppose you knew about Artemis and I?”
“Yeah. You two were probably the only ones who didn't know!”
Robin let out his infamous cackle and Wally only smiled. Artemis leaned into him, humming a little. Becca smirked at them and there was another flash.
“Becca! Stop it!” Artemis demanded playfully.
“You'll thank me one day. Don't forget, this never would have happened if it wasn’t for you, Wally.”
“What do you mean?”
“Eh. Nothing. I'll let you figure that out. But seriously...” Becca turned her head to look at the martian and clone. “I'm so glad for you two. You have no idea how many super fans you have.”
“We have fans?” Robin asked.
“You didn't know? Hand me your laptop.”
Robin complied and Becca took the device. She punched in the code while the others gathered around. Then, pulling up Google, Becca typed in the words “Young Justice.” Immediately, thousands of pics came up, each about them.
“Whoa! We are famous!” Wally exclaimed.
“Most superheroes are. But check this out.”
Becca typed in the word “couples” to her original search and more pictures came up.
“See? There are Megan/Connor fans, Wally/Artemis fans, Robin/Artemis fans, Wally/Megan fans plus a few others.”
“Like what?”
Becca's cheeks turned pink but she answered just the same.
“Like Wally/Robin fans, Artemis/Megan fans, and a few Kaldur/Connor fans. The extreme fans. Not bad necessarily just extreme. They also have Robin/Connor fans, Roy/Robin fans, Wally/Roy fans, Artemis/Roy fans, Wally/Klarion the Witch boy fans, Robin/Zatanna fans, and even some Mentor/Protege fans. And then the OC/protege fans.”
“Oc's?” Megan asked.
“A made up person who people think should get together with one of you.”
“Ah.”
“But you guys are pretty loved. Most people think of you as a sign of hope.”
“Like what happened when Megan linked us up for a training exercise?” Wal;ly asked gently.
“Prescicely. You guys are like the most liked team ever!”
“And it seems like Robin is the most loved teammate,” Wally noticed.
“Yep. But that's their hopes and dreams down the drain.”
“Oohh! Becca that was cold.”
“Whatever Wally. It was the truth; they can not have him and they never will!”
“Is there a territorial factor I see Becca?” Artemis asked.
“No,” Becca answered, but her cheeks were turning red.
“Show us some more pictures,” Robin said.
“No. You can find them yourself. I need some fresh air.”
Becca untangled herself from Robin, handing him the computer. The others were so focused on it, they never noticed how Kaldur had slipped out of the room. Becca raced after him, hoping he wouldn't get in the water.
“Kaldur!” Becca called when she exited the mountain.
She spotted him by the beach, looking at the waves from the dry sand. She sighed and walked over to him. As she neared, she could see him playing with a reed of grass from by the door.
“May I sit?” she asked, now standing beside him.
“If you wish.”
Becca sat next to him and stared at the ocean. The sound of the waves crashing filled her ears and she felt even more relaxed than before.
“What's it like?” Kaldur asked as he turned to face her.
“What's what like, Kaldur?”
“Being in love. What's it like?”
“Oh. Well, everyone has their own way of viewing it. For me, it's like a thousand days of sunshine followed by chocolate sundaes. It sounds weird but that's the feeling I get. Super excited and satisfied. Never feeling alone. But never always surrounded. Does that make sense?”
“No. But it was a good try.”
Becca pushed against his arm lightly.
“Look, I didn't mean to make you feel bad.”
“I know. I just...wonder when that will happen to me, you know?”
“Yeah. I was like that at first too. Especially when I first met you guys. Robin was so wrapped up in everything. I didn't think he cared. In fact, I thought there was somebody else he was with.”
“Well, you can see your theory was wrong.”
“Tell me about it. My point is, love will find you. Just don't expect it.”
“Hmmm. You are wise counsel. If I were ever to be a king, I would choose you as an advisor.”
“You shouldn't. My loyalties don't lie far.”
“Maybe not. But you're love for your friends do.”
Kaldur leaned over and kissed her forehead.
“Thank you. You have become like a sister to me. And I will protect you with my life.”
“Same to you, Kaldur. Except brother. You're obviously not a sister.”
Becca smiled when she got a chuckle out of her companion.
“Should we head back?” she asked.
“I think it's time.”
Becca smiled at him as they got up. She dawdled along as he headed back faster than she was. When he was gone, Becca pulled her phone out.
“Hey, Jade? I have a proposition for you.”
“Kaldur and I didn't need to suspect,” Robin admitted. “We already knew.”
“And I suppose you knew about Artemis and I?”
“Yeah. You two were probably the only ones who didn't know!”
