Chapter V-
"Let's go." Revenge said, grabbing Courage's arm.
"What?" she asked.
Revenge pointed at the troops lining the floor below.
"AL said Investigate and Report, that's what we're doing."
He and Courage crawled back along the vent until they dropped down into an empty room. They headed towards the door, but at that moment, the walls on either side of them and the door before them opened and Soviet soldiers poured in.
"Surrender!" one of them said in Russian. Courage pulled out her holly leaves and Revenge his dagger launcher.
"I believe they said, surrender." a voice said.
Revenge looked up and literally didn't believe what he saw.
"You." he growled.
The man laughed maniacally. "Get 'em!" he said.
The troops surged forward, but Revenge threw daggers, filling the air with smoke. He and Courage split up, kicking and punching the blind and coughing Soviets.
"Gaah!" the man roared. "Get them!"
Revenge grabbed the barrel of a gun and pointed it upwards as the soldier shot it. Revenge punched the soldier in the face, but another soldier hit him with the butt of his gun, sending him to the ground.
The man laughed as Courage was thrown across the room next to Revenge.
The two heroes stood up wearily.
"Fools!" the man said. "I have thousands of troops! Do you honestly think you can defeat me?"
"We can try." Revenge said, leaping at the soldiers that were closing in. The smoke had dissipated and it was now easy for the Russians to see. Courage was quickly knocked out and Revenge thrown next to her.
"You didn't stand a chance!" the man said. "And now, you die!"
"That outcome is inevitable!" Revenge said. "But not on this day!" he threw smoke grenades and plain grenades forward before picking up Courage and running out the open door.
"Revenge to Team. Omega Level. Repeat, Omega Level!" Revenge tried to contact the Team over his ear comm as he ran. "Hero down! Do you read? Do you read?"
Revenge cursed as all he got back was static. He slipped a re-breather on his mouth and on Courage's before diving into the armory, knocking over the soldiers that were in there and jumping into the mineshaft.
Revenge dodged bullets as they flew through the water and swam towards the exit. He surfaced, gasping and hauled himself and Courage out.
"Revenge to Team, over!" Revenge said, hauling Courage to the car.
"Artemis here, what's the problem? Get lost?"
"Get him!" a voice yelled and gunfire erupted as Revenge laid Courage in the car before throwing daggers at the soldiers.
"Is that gunfire?" Artemis asked.
"Great jobs, Holmes!" Revenge said, ducking behind a tree and throwing a few daggers at the soldiers. They exploded, tossing them back, but more kept coming.
"Where are you? What's your situation?" Aqualad asked.
"Simple sentences." Revenge said, pulling out his disc launcher and firing off a couple of rounds. "Big Army. Courage down. Me trapped."
"We are on our way!" Aqualad said.
"Delay that! You'll never get here in time, complete your mission and I'll complete mine!"
"Or die trying." Artemis muttered.
Revenge holstered his empty gun and pulled out some more daggers. He threw them and a gas cloud erupted, sending everyone who breathed it to the ground. Revenge reached for some more daggers, but came up with one.
"I'm out of ammo." he said unbelievingly.
He dived behind the taxi and threw himself in the driver's seat. He stomped the gas and took off.
Courage groaned.
"Hang in there." he said. He grabbed her pistol out of the holster on her hip and shot a few rounds off at the soldiers, then he was out of range.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Your joking." Wally said.
"Yeah, you're trying to say that-"
"I know what I'm trying to say." Revenge said. "I couldn't believe it any more than you could, but I saw him."
"I believe him." Holly said, sitting up on the bed.
Artemis crossed her arms. "Of course you do." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Hey!" Holly protested. "I was standing right next to him, Artemis!"
"This still sounds impossible." Wally said.
"Well it isn't really any of your concern anyway." Revenge said, walking out the door.
"Same thing he said." Holly said, walking out the door as well.
Holly jumped in the elevator right before it closed. "So what're we doing?" she asked Sam, who was zipping up a jacket over the top of his uniform and replacing his mask with a hat and glasses.
"Stock up," Sam said. "We're going back."
-------------------------------------------------------------
"So," Holly said, tossing her jacket on. "We're going to just happen to fall in a locked mineshaft and swim into an armory where we'll plant bombs and blow the place sky high."
"More or less." Sam said, attaching his cape.
"You realize this plan stinks, right?" Holly said, slipping her mask on.
Sam grinned before sliding his mask on. "Yep, let's do it."
-------------------------------------------------------------
About halfway back to the base, the car hit the frozen bridge.
Holly was thrown forward as the car spun around and off the bridge.
"Grab my hand!" Sam yelled as the car fell. Holly grabbed it and he busted the front window out. He shot a grappling line and swung them down to the bank of the river.
"Funny," Revenge said. "This isn't frozen but the bridge is."
Holly looked at him, then suddenly she fell forward due to a blow to the head.
Revenge whipped around, but a cold hand grabbed his wrists.
"Hello again." Ice Crystal purred. "We left on such bad terms..."
She threw Revenge into the wall and kneed him in the stomach. "...I thought I'd make it up to you." she punched him in the face.
Holly had her own hands full. She was dodging swipes from Lioness's razor claws. She threw a few holly leaves at her, but Lioness merely dodged them all.
Holly grabbed Lioness's suit, but Lioness twirled her around and threw her in the water.
"Ah, your girlfriend seems to be in distress." Ice said to Revenge, slamming him against the iron supports a few more times. "Why dont you save her?" Ice Crystal tightened her grip on the young hero, causing him gasp, but he could get no air.
Revenge went limp and Ice released him. He fell to the ground and swept her legs out from under her. He grabbed her coat and pulled it off.
"Try your high-tech sweater now." he said, tearing the sleeve and revealing all the technology sewed into it.
Ice gasped as Revenge picked her up by the throat and rammed her into the iron supports. He threw her down and a dagger beside her. He ran off to where Lioness was hauling a shivering Holly out of the water. Her mask was off, lost in the car wreck and Revenge could see the terror in her eyes as Lioness pulled one of her claws out and prepared to end the heroine.
Revenge grabbed Lioness and threw her into the water. Lioness wasn’t a very good swimmer and struggled to get to shore. Revenge picked up Courage and began to haul her away when he felt something cold and sharp pierce his back. He fell to the ground and saw Ice Crystal standing over him with a bloody ice crystal.
Holly punched her in the face and knocked her out before helping Revenge up. Revenge planted a few timed daggers around the two villians before climbing up the cold steel ladder back to the road.
“Are you okay?” Revenge asked.
Holly nodded. “Just a little cold. What about you?”
“I’m fine.” Revenge said, wincing in pain. “So how do we get there now?”
“There’s a gas station two miles that way.” Holly said. “We can, um, borrow a car from there.”
Revenge nodded and the two limped off.
-------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t long before they reached the gas station. Revenge purchased some bandages along with a blanket and hot chocolate for Holly. Holly managed to find an old car, still had a full tank of gas, and hijack it. The two were soon driving at top speed towards the Soviet base. Revenge wrapped a bandage around his upper torso.
Holly had found a pair of sunglasses in the car and put them on in replacement of her mask.
The two heroes arrived at the Soviet base and Courage reluctantly jumped back into the icy water. Revenge opened the door to the armory and pulled Courage up, wincing at the pain erupting in his body.
“Here,” Revenge said, handing Courage a few explosives. “Plant them where they will make the most damage.”
Courage took a few and began to tape them to large stashes of ammo and explosive materials.
“What are these?” she asked.
“C-4 explosives.” Revenge replied, taping a bomb to a box of grenades.
The two heroes had just finished taping the final explosive in place when a squad of surprised Soviets walked into the armory.
“Ah crap” Courage said.
“GO!” Revenge yelled, kicking the two soldiers in the stomach and sealing the door.
Courage nodded and dived out into the mineshaft. Revenge hit a button on the explosives timing them for two minutes.
Revenge punched the first soldier to breach the door in the face, the second he kicked in the gut, and the third he stabbed. Revenge ran for the mineshaft, jumping-
-but a Soviet caught his leg. Revenge’s head rammed into the steel ladder and he was knocked unconscious. The soviet soldiers hauled him from the room, unaware of the danger.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Courage ran for her life, she was about three hundred yards from the base when she noticed Revenge wasn’t behind her.
“Revenge!” she yelled, scanning the field for her fellow hero. No sign of him. She began to run back. Thats when all hell broke loose.
The mineshaft erupted in a column of fire and splintered wood. The lake boiled over and the ground exploded from within, scattering clumps of soil and metal all over the place.
Courage ducked behind a tree as death and destruction poured from the massive Soviet base. A mangled corpse landed beside her. It was burnt and torn apart.
No sign of Revenge.
Holly sat on the ground and cried.
"Let's go." Revenge said, grabbing Courage's arm.
"What?" she asked.
Revenge pointed at the troops lining the floor below.
