Because I'm an idiot and forgot to post this. This is right after Proven and a little before Never Alone.
The Key and the Weapon
"The Weapon, please," Nightwing said. Robin pulled it out of his utility belt and handed it forward. "And the Key." Eclipse passed the small rectangle to the Dark Knight's former protege. He stared at the two peculiar objects in his hands, inspecting them closely. Finally, he laid them on the table, setting them beside each other. The Key shook slightly, as if struggling to move.
"Is it supposed to do that?" Batgirl asked.
"I'm not sure," Nightwing admitted. Suddenly, the Key slid to the Weapon, hitting it with a hollow clank.
"Is titanium magnetic?" Blue Beetle asked. Nightwing shook his head, "No, it is not."
The Key beeped, a blue light shooting from its end. A holographic picture appeared in the air. It showed a symbol of three interlocking circles in the form of a triangle. It rotated for a moment before fading away.
A screen materialized where the symbol had been. Words began to roll out as an automated voice spoke them aloud. "Pride for they who cherish. Death to the ones who perish. Peace and serenity for the rest. Do you accept this mission?"
"A poem?" Cassidy said.
"Yes," SilverWings said at almost the exact same time. "I accept the mission."
"Affirmative," the robotic voice replied. The holographic screen and it's words deteriorated and the blue light flickered out. A click sounded from the Key. Looking closely at it, SilverWings saw a small crack had appeared near the top of the rectangle.
She pulled it away from the Weapon and inspected it. Slowly, she pulled it off, exposing a metallic square.
"A flash drive," Nightwing named the object. He held out his hand and Silver willingly gave it to him. He turned to the cave's computer and plugged the Key into a port.
Immediately a blue box appeared on the screen. It grew in size until it occupied nearly the entire space on the monitor. Mission Accepted it read in bold letters. The word evaporated from view and was replaced by a list. A list of names.
Nightwing typed on the board and the list scrolled down.
"Fifteen names," he informed.
"What do they mean?" Batgirl asked. The two detectives looked at each other, then back up the screen. "Good question," Nightwing said.
"Guys," SilverWings said. "You may want to see this." When the Key had been injected into the port, it had let off a signal and unlocked the cap of the Weapon. Now, the gathered group lifted the lid, revealing the contents within.
It looked like a toy water gun. Except it was shiny, defiently made of some sort of metal. Also, the transparent red fluid occupying the barrel of the gun did not look like harmless water. It was about the size of a hand-held cellphone. 14 other capsules of the clear liquid lay in the case, lined in four rows, 2 above and 2 below the gun. It was all supported by dark packing foam.
"It's a gun," Robin stated the obvious. The eyes of the heros trailed to the screen, then back to the gun.
The silence froze as the connection between the list of names and the Weapon was made.
"It's a kill list," SilverWings said, cracking the ice, "The mission is to exterminate the people listed."
