“so....ur a cop, huh?”
“i completed the academy” I say “specialized in undercover.”
“an undercover cop,” the sheriff says “we'll c about that.”
I nod, trying 2 restrain myself from reaching over and strangling the guy. Maybe it's just a pet peeve, I don't know how many people find it annoying when someone thinks they're better then u just because they've been on the job longer then u. it drives me nuts. “i would b happy 2 do anything u ask” I say, looking over 2 c the sheriff grinning at me.
“anything, hu? Oh, u can work 4 me, i've got a job 4 u. just as long as u don't stay under cover in the morning.” he says, bellowing an obnoxious laugh as he pulls a file from beneath his desk. I watch as the folder hits the desk, spewing dust into the air. Coughing, I look down. Murder files, '07 the folder reads. I frown, suddenly getting a sense of what kind of a jerk this guy is. So he was gonna give me an old, unsolved murder 2 try 2 run me off? It would probably be 3007 b4 I was able 2 solve this.
“how 'bout something more current?” I ask “what about the recent homicide of 512th street?”
“oh I have cops there already. Experienced detectives.”
“sir, I can do anything u ask me and more. I graduated with highest honors in my class.” I tell him, trying 2 keep my annoyance with him separated from my voice.
“that's nice.” he says “it's just that I like a man who has a badge.”
I groan under my breathe, suddenly furious at the man. “i was told u wanted help, if ud like, i'll just walk away and go join someone who appreciates a physic hand. And, as a deal, i'll only put a few bullet holes through ur face.” suddenly he's staring at me, a look of shock on his face. I'm instantly back-tracking my thoughts. Dd I say out-loud that i'd use his photo 4 shooting practice? Suddenly it dawns on me...
“did u just say 'Physic'?” I shake my head, but he's grinning now, turning 2 a filing cabinet behind his desk. “lately there's been an increase in homicide. 7 recent murders within the last month, every single one of them without a strand of evidence.”
I nod, resisting the urge 2 jump up with joy. “i won't let u down.”
“ud better not. Tell ya what, y don't u come back 2morro? I'd like u 2 meet a few of my men working on these cases already. There's one i'd like u 2 meet especially.”
I take the document he's handing me, looking it over. James Telle, a college freshmen, murdered brutally after breaking up with his girlfriend, Vanessa. He'd been tied with a rope ageist a light post in a dark alley, then stabbed in the heart and the palm of each hand, and a gash in his shoulder. I frown, reading through the police report and the summary of an interview with the girlfriend. I look and he's idly flipping through the rest of the files, then he sets them all down.
“glad 2 have ya on the team.”
I shake his hand, amazed by how one word changed his whole perspective. “thank u.”
“b back at 2 2morro”
“i'll b here.” I assure him as I stand.
“c ya 2morro, Clark.”
the next day I was back in the sheriff's office, this time sitting b4 an older detective. “i'm not sure I believe in physics, but if the boss man says u can help, i'm gonna let ya' try.” he says, staring at me as he speaks.
“i'll do what I can, I won't let ya down.” I say.
“yeah, that's what they all say. We'll c what u can do, big guy, but I guaranty u this isn't ez. 7 cases of murder, and growing. Not one of them with even a single clue. Not a finger print or even half of one, not a sign of fighting from the victim, no blood splatter..nothing.”
“he says he's physic, he can help.” the sheriff declares.
“yeah?” the detective asks, raising an eyebrow, “so, what? U can c the future or something?”
I sigh, wishing I hadn't mentioned my abilities but knowing at the same time it's the only reason i'm on the job now. “sort of...there's many types of of physics though. I think of us as categorized into 3 types; Physics of the future, which can c the future. I have a slight ability 2 do this, but it's not as if I can do so whenever. Physics of the present r when u can feel what's happening then, like a server case of intuition or spidey senses. Physics of the past can b categorized into 2 groups. One can c bits of the past events, the other, me, can...” I trail off slightly 2 catch my breathe and notice their stares as I speak my last words with caution “talk 2 the deceased.”

feels like i'm driftin' through space
i'm fallin' from pace
didn't leave a trace...
of my...existance...
i've been fallin' quite a distance...
feels like i'm hurtin'
and i....need u...but u put up a curtian
u refuse 2 break my fall
and u ignor my call
i've been through it all
i feel i could cry
or maybe just die
because who stops long enough 2 find out y
someone does cry?
and it pains me 2 know
this sad world will never grow
at least not anytime soon
i may as well stay on the moon
so these stars will be my company
and my releif, if any
when u c the stars remember
i will be here forever
i will stay
so do not delay
for the others drifting with me
look 4 me, 4 i am she
i need the company
so stay with me, if there r any
life doesn't end when your body dies
anyone who says that lies...
so i'm calling all drifters
because they will b the shifters...
i'm fallin' from pace
didn't leave a trace...

“Kem....Kem...?” Cross waves her hand in front of me.
“hu...oh, sorry. Day dreaming...” I reply. Ok, more like a day-mare, but they don't need 2 know that...
“looks like u jus got eat by a cay-yote and barfed back up 4 da vultures.” says a 15 year old with a thick southern accent.
“gee...thanks 4 the visual aid, there, Bruno...” I mutter under my breathe.
“he has a point, Kem...” Cross replies. “u sure...?”
“i'm fine. Cross.” I reply with a sigh, catching the annoyance in my voice a second 2 late.
“well EXCUSE ME 4 caring! I promise i'll NEVER do it again!” she turns her back and stomps off....shit, not what I wanted. I hadn't meant 2 sound annoyed...it just happened....i fucked up but....4 some reason....i can't bring myself 2 admit it aloud. So, instead, I walk out, leaving them all confused and looking from Cross' room 2 the door I exited.
