~flashback~
i wake up at the foot of Master James' bed. another day in the place i call home. i've lived here sense i was born, and my family, much like James', has always lived here. James has told me since i was little the story of how his great ancestors made this house with their bare hands. they've had cats with them sense the 1st wall was built up. i look out the huge window and out at the beautiful mountains. i jump off the bed and walk 2 the volciny door. i jump and pull the door open. Master James didn't care because it's almost never cold here. i walk out onto the balcony and look at the beautiful gardens. catmint, along with other herbs and flowers, grow out there. i jump back onto the bed just as Master wakes up. he smiles and scratchs my head as his mate, Master Lorra wakes up and scratchs me as well. then they get up and walk out, leaving me with nothing 2 do but follow. this is the 3rd floor and there r only 3 huge bed rooms on this floor. the master's room and the 2 kids. up on the 4th floor there's a huge indoor garden that i love to be in...but it's all flowers exept 4 a patch of catnip that they planted in the corner 4 me. it's a small patch, but it's big enough 4 me 2 lye in. it's actually sectioned off into 2 rooms by something like a wall covered by flowers and vines. there is, of course, a door way between them. i find myself day-dreaming at i walk up the steps from the indoor garden and up 2 the top floor, the library. the shelves covered with colorful books. i've been able 2 understand them slightly by color and what the Masters say about them. i've decoded two-lag speak, you c. i understand most of it...but i can't speak it myself.
i walk down to the second floor and look around. there's lots of small rooms here 4 some reason...they all have different stuff in it and, i sware, every time i look, there's a new thing in one of the rooms. i sigh “there's a new tea cup in the glass cabinet." i think, walking down the steps 2 the main floor.
Master Lilly lights a candle just as i walk down. i look at the tree covered with colors and lights. i forgot that they were having a big party here for...Christmas, i think they call it...anyway, Master Lilly walks over and pats my head. she's the smallest kid and she's awfully cute. the 2 head masters, Lorra and James, walk over 2 a small box and start pushing things. it's called a phone, i think. the two-legs talk 2 each other with it. i walk over 2 the tree and climb up in to it. I lye in the lower branch as more two-legs start 2 show up. “Why can't I be alone 4 once?” I say aloud, sighing as more and more show up.
~that night
I walk out onto the balcony of the Master's room and jump on to the railing. I sit down and stare up at the stars. Most of the time, everyone would be asleep by now, but they were still wide awake. I can't believe this...the guests should be gone. They're so noisy, I can't sleep! I sigh as I keep looking at the stars. Then the whispering began. It started soft, and I thought it was the wind, Nothing more. But the voices started 2 become clearer. They were distant...and slightly menacing. What they were saying was 2 distant that I couldn't make any of them out. I turned my head slowly toward the garden, trying 2 locate the sound. There, in the dark, I see eyes. They glowed with their own light...a light blue...a twinkling...so familiar, yet so strange...
suddenly they close and become a swirling white mist. I look closely as it takes the shape of a cat. It looks like...like the picture... “mom?” I ask hesitantly.
The misty cat nods. “my beautiful Cadey...” she mutters.
I turn my head slightly. “what do u want?” I ask, a bit bitter.
“y must u act like that?”
“y did u leave me?!” I retort.
“Cadey, it's not like that...”
“then what IS it like!?”
“i...” she starts, then shakes her head. “listen u have a greater destiny then I had. Along with that comes great danger that will follow.”
“U DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION!” I yell back. “and how can that be when i've always lived here with Masters' James and Lorra!?”
“something's going to happen...” she says. “and I understand how u feel...”
“NO YOU DON'T!” I yell back, starting 2 cry. “you'll never understand! ...u...have no...idea..what...i've been through...” I stutter slightly, sobbing harder. “u and father left me when I was 2 young 2 even know u...i've never even seen u till now...”
“Casandra...Cadey...i'm sorry...”
“NO YOU'RE NOT!” I yell “BECAUSE U SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT!!!” I pause “u left me...”
“i didn't want to leave u.” she sighs.
“THEN Y DID U!?”
“I had 2...you'll never understand...”
“you're right...i won't. You left me alone...with no one...i won't EVER forgive u for it!” I say, glaring at her.
“i didn't have a choice!” she gasps “i...believe it or not...i did it 2 protect u...” she sighs, and dissipates.
I continue 2 glare at the spot. “not according 2 what every one else said. They all said u found someone else and were expecting his kits...” I sob at the empty space. “and Father left because he...he never wanted kits in the 1st place...YOU'RE A LIER!” I yell the last sentence, then hear something below. I c another car and think “oh great, MORE two-legs” and jump down on to the balcony and go in to the room. I curl up on the bed and cover my eyes with my tail. I jump up almost at once loud noises and then the smell of blood. I run down the steps as the other two-leg leaves. I look around and c that the floor is covered in blood and I run 2 Master James. I look at him sadly. His eyes r glazed over and, as I walk 2 each of the other two-legs...so r theirs. “They're all...dead...” I mutter, nosing under Master James' arm and hoping 2 find warmth. But, no...only cold...i start crying again, and swearing under my breathe. “i should have warned them...i saw the other two-leg” I mutter, then realize it probably wouldn't have done much good anyway. Eventually I cry myself 2 sleep.
~the next day
“where...where'd everyone go...?” I say, looking around. All the bodies were gone and there was the smell of other two-legs around. I sigh and walk around, slightly dazed.
~later
I walk out of the house, still convinced that yesterday was just a nightmare and that they would be back soon...i hear something in a bush and look over hopefully. The island in the middle of the river is actually quite large and the garden takes up most of it, along with the front area where I stand now that's totally clear except 4 some bushes that line the walkway from the bridge that leads 2 either side of the river. Soon after the noise, a cat walks out of the fog. she looked accosted. “who...who r u?” I ask, but she passes out before she can answer.
~that night
the new cat blinks awake. “h-hi...” I say. She looks around, confused. “it's ok, I brought u inside...w-who r u?” I ask.
“I'm Jem...”she replies, still confused.
~end flashback~
so...after awhile...i found that Jem was good with herbs. I've realized that Masters James and Lorra, along with the rest aren't coming back...but my den is the Master's old room. The house has been kept in pretty good condition, and I later found out about the clans from Jem's stories. I realized that that's what I wanted this place 2 be. A place 4 other cats 2 feel safe and protected...
so I became Loststar, and Jem took the name Fogjem.
We got everything figured out and I set up where everything would be.
After a few moons...the two-legs stopped coming here. Roomers of the place being haunted had spread, and this place became totally forgotten by everyone except me and Fogjem.
They don't come for vacation, the stories keep them away.
Eventually other cats showed up, and the clan was slowly born.
~flashback~
