Hailey’s POV
Laughter echoed through the dark cave that was my prison. I had disappeared without a trace when I was 16- a weird cult of the most twisted scums of the human population abducted me and made me theirs. I spent all of my time in a cave that was completely dark. I had no way of knowing the passing of time but I guessed that I had been in here for a couple years. Occasionally they would toss food at me, but the only time someone would enter was when they were doing rituals. My guess was that they were into weird witchcraft darkness stuff. They would use a knife, slash a strip of skin and then either use my blood for rituals or drink it. I of course couldn’t see any of this but they didn’t care if I heard of their plans. I heard footsteps echo through the tunnel and voices talking. I felt two sets of hands grab me and then a sharp pain sliced from under my belly button down to my thigh, slicing my shirt and pants. Blood gushed out of the wound, and they laughed in anticipation. Their laughter cut off and I heard a “Hey- what was that?” but then I passed out.
Jaspers POV
Alice and I were out hunting, when the scent of human blood and the sound of malicious laughter caught out attention. This was wrong- we were deep in the forest where usually no one ventured. “Stay here- I’m going to go investigate.” Alice nodded and I took off, letting my senses guide me. I found myself in front of a cave that led deep under the ground. I slipped in through the small hole. It would have been pitch black to any human. “Hey bud- back off before we kill you.” A man, who looked to be in his thirties stepped out. I surveyed the area. 3 men and 1 girl who lay limp in the corner. She was bleeding badly. “What the hell is going on here?” I asked, my tone as menacing as could be. The guy with a knife in his hand stepped forward, ready to strike. I darted to him and snapped his neck. Before the other two guys could scream I killed them too. I picked up the girl. She had a pulse, but looked like she had only hours left. The smell of her blood was so tempting, but I had already saved her by killing the scums- I couldn’t let me draw for her blood end her life now. I hurried back and lept out of the hole.
Alice’s POV
Jasper emerged with a girl who looked to be in her twenties in his arms. I choked back a sob of horror when I looked her over. Bone pale, covered in cuts- some fresh, some partially healed and some scars- bruises everywhere and immensely thin. She looked like she might die right there and then. I rushed up to unbreathing Jasper and gently took her from him. “We need to get her to Carlisle right away. Run ahead so you’re not tempted by her blood and call him to let him know what’s going on.” He nodded, grateful to be relieved of the torturous smell, and took off with his cell at his ear. I followed him running as fast as I dared. The girl in my arms moaned and stirred.
Hailey’s POV
I was vaguely away that someone picked me up and carried me out. The shock of the light after being in the darkness for so long was incredible but I was too weak to move. I heard voices but couldn’t distinguish what they were saying. I was jostled slightly and then was in the arms of someone much smaller. The movement made the cuts burn agonizingly and I groaned. I trembeled violently from the pain, the fear, the shock. The drizzle of rain on my body ceased as I heard a door open. I heard several gasps and lots of quick footsteps.
Carlisle’s POV
Alice and Jasper burst into the house with the woman in her arms. The girl was half unconscious. She was covered in lacerations which were bleeding, bruises patterned her entire rail thin body. “Bring her upstairs to the room that we used for Bella a couple years ago. I will go grab my bag from the office.” I shouted the directions over my shoulder as I raced up the stairs. The girl was dangerously close to death.
Hailey’s POV
I felt the movement of someone climbing steps and then I was placed on one of those chair/table things that you would find at a doctors office. I heard quiet conversations between a man and a woman. There was the sharp pain of a few needles. I guessed they were cleaning the cuts next because the stinging pain was enough to drag me out of my unconscious state. I tried to wiggle away as I screamed, but the girl was holding me still. Finally the man- she was calling him Carlisle- stopped. He tossed out a blood soaked piece of gauze. “Is that it?” He asked. I saw the girl’s gaze travel down my body. “What the…” She was staring at the tip of the branding on my hip/upper thigh. My pants mostly hid it but the partially healed slash that ran next to it drew attention to the area. Awhile after I had been in the cave, they decided to label me as their own. They blazed some sort of symbol onto me with a white-hot outline. After it healed they traced it with a knife so it scarred, putting the finishing touches on it. She locked eyes with me and gently slid down the side of my sweats to reveal the full mark. What the hell? What is this?” She murmured, tracing it lightly with her finger. I shuddered and shut my eyes, trying desperately not to think of that awful memory.
Alice’s POV
This mysterious girl intrigued me. Her eyes were full of stories, her body covered in the scars of her past. Something awful had happened to her, and she was obviously traumatized. I really hoped she would tell us what had happened in that secluded cave. All Edward got was bits of memories, but nothing made sense and it was too dark to make anything out.
Carlisle’s POV
I finished up cleaning the cuts and sealed them with venom (she obviously didn’t know what I put on it.) Her injuries puzzled me. The cuts were results of a knife, the bruises from abuse. But why? Why had she been down there- why had they been doing that to her? I shook my head and put everything back in my bag. “Why don’t you get her something to eat and then show her to a room?” I suggested to Alice who nodded.
Tell me what you think! Enjoy!
