Cinders Evolution is only proven as true as the Big Bang, but it's still just a theory. Consider this: You're in a court room where a man is on trial for murder. The prosecution presents Exhibit A: the murder weapon, with that man's fingerprints and the victim's blood. Exhibit B: That man's DNA was under the victim's finger nails. Exhibit C: The man had no alibi, and was having an affair with the victim. With all this evidence, it's logical, almost irrefutable, to conclude that he murdered this woman. But the defense proposes another solution. The DNA under her fingernails occurred during a sexual encounter earlier that night. The finger prints on her kitchen knife, from when he cooked her dinner. The alibi is that he went back to the office to finish a few things before going home, but it's not his fault nobody saw him. The point is, the evidence can fit multiple versions of events. The evidence for evolution is definitely present. The theory is logical and sound. In fact, genetic drift has been observed in how different primate species evolved on Galapagos Island versus in South America. But let me make this perfectly clear: A good scientists never says that a theory is fact. He is always open to be refuted. Why? Well, consider what happened in a famous event in which current scientific theory was challenged. The sun moves around the Earth. The stars move around the Earth. Ergo, it was logical to assume a geocentric universe. But when Galileo pointed out that that same evidence could suggest that the Earth moved around the sun he was demonized. This was because people were convinced that a "theory" was "fact." One day, some other brilliant scientist may look at all the evidence that supports evolution and come up with another theory, one that fits the evidence even better than the evolutionary theory does. If we refuse to accept that information just because we believe evolution to be "fact," then we're no better than the geocentrists of the Renaissance. Also, while a very interesting article, I HAVE flagged this - as miscategorized. I don't know what the relevance is to posting it in the Christianity spot, as it has nothing to do with it. It may either be moved to the debate spot, the science spot, or some other spot. I have a feeling, though, that you posted this hear under the assumption that people at this spot are Christian, so they MUST not believe in evolution! That would be the equivalent of me meeting someone of Japanese ethnicity and assuming that they MUST speak Japanese. Don't jump to conclusions. Some people on this spot believe in the theory of evolution. Even more don't believe that evolution is incompatible with religious theory.

LostKid DragonsArt is saying that people don't realize evolution because it takes so long to occur. What you said on the other hand was that DragonsArt speaks of primal and physical evolution. She says NOTHING about physical evolutioin in this article. Primal is mentioned here and there, but she is not saying that all Christians are against "Monkey to man"

Cinders My qualms were mostly with the title of the article. DragonsArt claims that s/he will "prove" evolution true with this title, and yes, s/he does give examples of various kinds of evolutions, but s/he does not prove it true. There are some redundancies in the article, as well, though, if you want me to get in specifics. Evolutionary theory applies to all organisms, from protists to plants, so of course plants evolve. That shouldn't be shocking to anyone who knows even a little bit about the theory. A better example, if you wanted to talk about evolution in the shorter term, would be to look at bacteria, considering they can have several generations within an hour. It's the reason they adapt to modern medications. Additionally, the "humans came from monkeys" argument is a shameful misunderstanding, I agree. If only people learned about these things, they know that nowhere does Darwin argue that man evolved from monkeys.

Sappp Do they? Christianity and the evolution theory are not incompattible, people can be Christian and believe in evolution. Not all Christians say 'all evolution is false'.

Cinders ^^ What Sappp said. But even if they don't believe in evolution, that's their choice. Just like you choose not to believe in Christianity. They believe that evolution is as weird as you believe creationism or intelligent design is. And to be honest, this isn't the best way I've seen evolution explained. I was a little confused by it, to be honest. At any rate, just because people are Christian doesn't make them "stupid" or "insane" as you keep saying. It just means they think differently than you. And, like I explained earlier, religion is a sign of a perfectly healthy brain - not insanity.

housefrk Christians don't say all kind of evolution are false. I'm a creationist, but I believe in societal evolution, and I never met anyone who didn't. We know that people used to be nomads, and then they settled down and started to farm and develope animal husbandry.

italiangirl976 I'm not saying that your belief is wrong. Or anyone else. But I am Catholic and I believe that God created the universe and everything in it. That is my belief but there is no way I can "prove" it. Just like there is no way you can prove that people came from evolution. Thats what you believe in and I respect that. Yes you have facts that people evolved from monkeys. But unless you have a time machine to go back to when the world was created you have no way to "prove" that. Just like I have no way to prove my beliefs.

italiangirl976 OK sorry, didn't know. Like I said I'm Catholic and in school they always told us people can from monkeys or something like that. I don't believe that so I really don't know. But, if evolution is ture, where do people supposedly come from if not from animals?

Cinders But italiangirl, that's exactly what I meant. So many people dismiss evolution as hooey without even knowing what the theory entails. I'd suggest picking up a book about it or asking your science teacher. If, after you understand the theory, you still think it's hokum, then that's absolutely OK. So long as you know what it is you're dismissing. EDIT: Here's a good basic starting point. :o)

italiangirl976 The only things I know about evolution is the things I was taught in elementary school. Evolution is based off of science, fact. Where Christianity is based off of faith and believing in things that you have absolutely no proof of. Isn't that enough though? Enough to be able to dismiss it and say, no sorry I don't believe that the world was created by science. I believe it was created by God. I read your article and it is a very good article and makes a lot of good points. I personally don't believe everything in the bible is true. Who knows? It was written by people who were just there while Jesus was and as been translated and who knows what else. Now I am no hardcore Catholic in any way. I haven't be to church in probably 2 and a half to three years. But I don't believe that people evolved from anything. I believe that god created people and everything else. Thats the way I was raised. I saw a comment posted on your link by DrDevience that said: "The problem is, as I see it, that people are basically lazy and much prefer to believe what they are told rather than exert a bit of effort and find the facts before trying to engage in a debate. Americans in particular are prone to a strange affliction which makes them think that if something is printed in a book (any book) that it must be true... " That, in my opinion at least, is so totally and completely wrong. Why is believing in something you told bad? Why do you need scientific facts telling you its true? Is having faith such a bad thing?
