Two things that have struck me:

1. This definitely has not been given as much media coverage as other terrorist attacks. If a Muslim terrorist perpetrated a mass shooting in a country like Canada, it would be all over the news for days. People would be hysterical. Facebook commentators would be calling for "their whole family" to be deported.

2. There has been no expectation for other people of that ideology to condemn the attack, and indeed, they have not. In fact, most disturbingly, I have seen top comments on facebook LAUDING it as a "pushback" and "revenge". Imagine if a Muslim said that on a news article about San Bernadino, or the Boston Bombing? They would be, rightly, accused of being supporting terrorism. The double standards are astounding. The fact that there are so many people that are so extreme and open about their hatred of Muslims is more than a little distressing. And yes, far-right populist leaders like Le Pen, Hanson, Farage, and Trump do have a part to play in this. They have made it socially acceptable to voice such views publicly. They have desensitised us to extreme rhetoric against Muslims.
