As the sun rose above the buldings of New York city, five penguins trained in the cold, December morning. Despite the chill, the birds kept training, keeping warm from the action. The sun made the clouds golden, and the penguins were pleased to have the slight warmth. Skipper, their leader, stopped training, so his team could enjoy the rest of the early morning.
"That's enough team," he said, smiling. "Enjoy the rest of the morning."
Kowalski headed inside to his lab, and Rico went to get Ms. Perkey. Skipper also went inside, to get his morning coffee. Only two of the penguins stayed on the ice floe.
"I'm going for a swim," CC said, and dove gracefully into the pool. Private watched her, smiling.
"Coming in?" she called. Private shook his head.
"I'm happy just to watch you," he replied. "Besides, it's a bit too cold for me." CC smiled back.
She hopped out of the pool, and shook her feathers dry. Water droplets rained off her. She shivered.
"It's suddnely cold," she said. "I'm going inside, you coming?"
"Nah, I'll stay out here," Private replied. CC nodded and went inside.
Private wanted to think. It was the 12th of December, only a week until CC's brithday. He wanted to get her a very special gift, but couldn't think of anything. Everything he thought of was either too expensive, or just impossible to obtain. He sighed in frusteration.
"What can I get CC?" he groaned.
Inside the HQ, Skipper approached CC.
"Soldier, I couldn't help but notice your birthday is coming up. Am I right?" he said.
"Yes, it is," CC confirmed. "I'm going to be 13. Why do you ask?"
"I was wanting to know what you want to do for your first birthday in the Central Park Zoo."
"Really?" CC asked, shocked.
"Really."
"Well," CC thought for a moment. "Do you think...uh...I'd like to invite some of my friends to go...like...I dunno...some sort of holiday?"
"Sounds great," Skipper agrees. "Where to?"
"Australia...?" CC asked softly. "I want to have just one more brithday in my home country." She looked away from Skipper, so he couldn't see her crying.
"I think we can arange that," Skipper said.
"Really?" CC exclaimed, looking back at him. Her cheeks were still wet from tears, but her eyes shone with happiness.
"Yes. Kowalski, think you could build a plane?"
"I can try and build a tweleve seater plane. seater plane," Kowalski replied. "Meaning you can only invite seven other people."
"Seven is pleanty," CC replied. "You guys will HAVE to come, and Rune will defiantly say yes!"
CC rushed out of the HQ to tell Private the news and invite her guests. She was so excited.
