Hannah swiftly followed the path Kowalski took, recognizing every building, scanning over each street sign and number, still in the correct direction. She stopped short of a crosswalk, catching her breath and wiping her forehead.
"Good god, if I can't get to Private, oh my god... I can't bear seeing him in.. So much pain.." Hannah's maternal instinct spiked within her heart, as it blasted to the speed of sound, giving her a renewed strength.
Hannah raced past bystanders, not giving a care in the world about how rude it was, since her top priority at the moment is finding her de-facto son Private.
It didn't take long for her to find the building Kowalski described, a lone, skeleton of a tenement, made into a makeshift dungeon for The Kid's foul play. Taking note of a cracked underfloor grate, she slipped quietly inside, finding that no one was in the basement, nothing but rotten food and a moldy dining table, salmonella coating what was once a slab of ham in an open refrigerator.
With disgust, Hannah slipped past the expired dwelling and covered her nostrils, gagging as she closed the rusted metal door behind her.
She quickly ran through bare concrete halls stripped of their linoleum panels and followed a trail of blood with absolute horror in her eyes.
"That better not be Private's blood... Otherwise, he's going to get it bad," Hannah hissed to herself, running down the hall, stopping upon hearing weeping in one of the adjacent rooms.
She followed the sound, opening a door to her right, and finding to her relief, Private. She ran over, fell to her knees and hugged him tightly.
"Private! Are you alright?!" Hannah started to shed tears, holding him close to her.
"Y-Yes... Hannah, it-it hurts so badly..." Private cried.
Hannah looked down, seeing that he has been stabbed in the side and belly, with small incisions on his flippers and legs, indicating The Kid was about to chop off his limbs before being stopped by another force.
"Shhh... I got you Private, I got you... I won't let you go out and get hurt again, not while I can't be there to endure it with you~" Hannah patted Private's back gently.
"I-I wanna go home...!" Private cried softly.
"I know... I know... Just calm down, you've held on tightly my little soldier~" Hannah said reassuringly, carrying him in her flippers.
Private only continued to cry, weeping and holding Hannah tightly. She could only respond with a gentle stroke to the back, quietly making her way out of that hellhole.
"H-Hannah..?" Private asked, wiping his tears, still shaken.
"Yes hun?" asked Hannah in reply.
"Don't let him stab me again..!" Private curled up into a ball in her flippers.
"I promise~" Hannah reassuringly smiled and patted his shoulder.
Private breathed deeply, then exhaled, visibly calming down, but fear remained in his eyes.
Quietly slipping through another exit way, Hannah carried Private out, glancing left and right, watching for The Kid, or anyone else that could threaten their lives, seeing only two trashcans and a bloody path of footprints, she covered Private's eyes, closing them as he relaxed in her flippers.
"Must've been stabbed as well..." Hannah spoke to herself.
An audible dripping sound was heard, and a muffled whimper pleading for help, looking down, next to a cyan baseball cap and shades, a small patch of blood began collecting in front of Hannah. She looked up.
Above her, wrapped up in thin barbed wire, attached to opposite walls in the alley she was in, laid a shorter female penguin, covered in cuts from the wire, bleeding profusely. Hannah could easily spot the green eyes staring back at her, begging to be helped, and set the now sleeping Private down gently, Hannah quickly grabbed her phone, and dialed the emergency number for Antarctica.
