The Hotchner boys were having a father, son day in the park. Hotch was watching jack swing on the swings and then watched as his son ran toward him.
“daddy, who is your valentine? mine is lily.” he said with a big smile on his face.
Hotch thought for a moment then replied. “i don’t have one buddy.”
“but daddy, you have ta find one. So she can make you smile.” he pouted.
“umm, I don’t know what to tell you buddy.” he told his son. Hotch really didn’t know what brought this on. it was a little pathetic that his son had a valentine and he didn’t, but he was more focused on raising his son and doing his job than getting a valentine.
“i know!” jack said excitedly.
“you know what?” hotch asked.
“miss Emily can be your valentine.” he said and started jumping up and down clapping his hands.
“buddy, me and miss Emily work together. plus i don’t think Emily would agree with your plan.” Hotch replied to his son.
“aww.” jack said, with a disappointed look on his face.
“fine Jack, I’ll call Emily and you can tell her what you just told me.” Hotch got his cell phone and dialed Emily’s number.
RING. RING. RING. RI...
“hello?” came Emily’s voice in his ear.
“hey, it’s Hotch.”
“oh, do we have a case.” she asked with a sigh.
“no, no. my son had an idea and i told him no. But he is being stubborn, so i said he could tell you his plan and you could tell him what you think about it.”
“oh and i wonder where he would get his stubbornness from.” She laughed.
“haha, very funny.” he said sarcastically.
Then he handed the phone to jack.
“MISS EMILY!” he screamed in the phone.
she held the phone way from her ear until he finished screaming anf heard Hotch scold him.
( “ now jack, how many times do i have to tell you. talking on the phone is just like being inside, use your inside voice.” he instructed.)
“sorry miss Emily.” he apologized to her.
“it’s fine jack. now what did you need?” she asked.
“oh yeah. well i have a valentine and her name is lily, but then i asked who daddy’s was and he said he didn’t have one, and i was wondering if you would be his valentine?”
She felt her face go warm and red.
“oh, well jack. I don’t know. what did your father say?”
“he said that you tow worked together and he did not think you would agree with it.” he told Emily.
“ok jack. may i speak to your father?”
she heard jack hand the phone to hotch.
“hey, im back.” he answered
“yes.” she replied.
“what? what are you tal....” then he figured it out.
“are you sure Emily?” he asked her.
“positive. look Aaron i know you’re a private man, but i have not had a valentine in A long time and I doubt you have either. It doesn’t mean were going to be in a relationship, just friends going to dinner, watching movies and exchanging gifts.”
“what if i want it to mean we’re in a relationship?” he asked.
She was shocked, she had to close her mouth before she spoke again.
“that would be alright to.” she replied.
“good. You just made me a very happy man Emily. See you tomorrow for our date.” he was smiling as he told her that.
“but Aaron valentines day is 4 days away.” she replied.
“i know but i can’t wait that long.”
“oh ok, see you tomorrow at 6.” she told him.
“alright. Bye Emily.” and with that he hung up.
“Do you have a valentine now daddy?” Jack asked.
“yes i do buddy, thank you.” and then he ruffled his son’s hair.
