Got some updates for Indiana Jones and the Search for a Decent Title, so here we go...........
O9ne of the proposed titles I identified through my soapbox was Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods (referring to Atlantis, which is long fabled to be the location of Mount Olympus... amongst other things). However, this title was half officially announced as THE title only a few months ago.... which has lead to a raft of fan made trailers using that title (see the vids section of the Indy Spot).
But in todays increasingly media savvy world those cheeky creators often lead us down the wrong path, take for example Russell T. Davies who often lets slip little bits of Doctor Who news, which the press jumps on, before it turns out not to be false info... like that Kylie would be starring in the christmas episode (which she is), but as a 'sexy cyberwoman' (which she is not). I believe that Mr Lucas and Mr Spielberg have been playing with us... and on that basis I would suggest that 'City of Gods' will not be the title for the movie.
However, I recently came across a quote from George... and it is very, very interesting.
"I discovered a MacGuffin. I told the guys about it and they were a little dubious, but it's the best one we've ever found... it was a little too 'connected' for the others. They were afraid of what the critics would think. I said, 'We'll have to go back to that original MacGuffin and take out the offending parts and we'll still use that area of the supernatural to deal with it.' "
So... lets take a closer look at the speakings of Mr Lucas, which I believe point towards the object of Indy's desire being, once again, the Ark of the Covenant.
"It's the best one we've ever found..."
"it was a little too 'connected' for the others."
"We'll have to go back to that original MacGuffin"
Note the subtle use of past tense... 'Connected'....'back to that original'.... need I say more?! But, all this aside.... I will remain skeptical until I see the movie.
The question is, can we trust a man with a beard....?
