It was a great day in the little town of Ponyville, where the many ponies are out doing their very own labors, big and small. There wasn't any major thing going on, so that was a good thing, especially for the town's little gamer colt, Button Mash, who had just got beat in a game where he can't get past a major boss.
"This is impossible!" he cried. "Why do I even try to get past this if all that ever happens is me getting killed?!" It sure did sound like he was getting frustrated. Deciding to take a break, he went out for a walk around town, feeling a need to cool down. Passing by all the other ponies of Ponyville, seeing many couples along the way, he began to think if there was a chance if he could go out with Sweetie Belle. Fat chance, though, because he thought he didn't have what it would take to be with her.
On the way to the town hall, Button Mash found little Sweetie Belle, resting on a bench. "Maybe this could be it," he said to himself, "but I can't screw it up big time." He began to slowly trot close to her, but inside, he was thinking that there should be some space between the two because he was practically rushing himself to ask Sweetie Belle on a date. Slightly backing away, he thought that it wasn't a very good idea to ask her so bluntly, so he decided to return home. Bummer.
Later that night, during dinner, Button's (hot) mom saw a slightly glum look on her youngest son's face. "Is something wrong, Button?" she asked him.
"I was thinking about asking Sweetie Belle out on a date, but I backed out, thinking it would be a bad idea," he replied. He knows that a date with Sweetie Belle would end just as bad as his milkshake race a while back. He wasn't sure if this date, if there ever was one, would work out properly.
Later that night, while Button was asleep, he had a dream. In it, he was with Sweetie Belle, out dancing under the beautiful night that Luna brings. Then, after they end their dance, she gives him a kiss on the cheek. And then, Button awoke from the dream, but it was no ordinary dream. It looked to be a vision of the future, but he didn't think that, saying, "I have no dating talent. It's gonna be a bust."
The next morning, during school, Button sees Sweetie Belle sitting alone, eyeing faraway mountains. Unsure about what to say, Button slowly trots towards the little white filly and sits next to her. "Nice view, eh?" he asked.
"It sure is," Sweetie Belle said, looking at him. She remembered how badly their first date turned out, but upon looking at his face that's filled with uncertainty, she's willing to give the little brown colt another chance. "Would you like to go on a date tonight?" she asked him.
Thinking about what he should do, Button said yes. "That's great!" Sweetie happily said, giving Button a quick kiss before anypony catches them.
Later that evening, Button's (hot) mom was preparing her youngest son for the date tonight. Button, meanwhile, was still thinking about the last date. He's not going to let this date be as bad as the last one. As he looked in the mirror, he saw himself in a nice looking suit, but it wasn't too fancy because he didn't wish for it to be extremely formal. However, when the doorbell rang, Button finds a really stunning Sweeite Belle. It looked like Rarity was being the polar opposite of what Button had anticipated.
That didn't matter, however, because the two had gone out to the gazebo, where Button wanted to have a nice dance with Sweetie Belle as the sun was setting and the night sky was coming out. The two were dancing so graciously, Butoon was thinking that this date would turn out to be very well. That is, however, until a hornet's nest was found atop the gazebo's celing, making them escape.
As their time went on, Button found a beautiful flower he thought Sweetie Belle would like. As he picked it up, however, he found a bee that was pretty angry about being bothered during pollination. It stung him in the nose and flew away, dying shortly afterwards. Poor Button was allergic to bee stings, so he had to go to the hospital.
Poor Button. This had turned out to be the worst date ever. His little dream was false. Nothing turned out to be the way he thought it would be. And now he has to stay in the hospital for a while. Just as he was about to cry because if his failure, Sweetie Belle came in, wanting to tell Button that she had a good time before the incident happened.
"I'm so sorry, Sweetie Belle," a saddened brown colt said. He believed that he's failed her. But she tells him that she had a good night with him. She gives him a kiss on the cheek, reminding him about the good time they spent together. At that moment, he was thinking that everything may have turned out to be as good as he thought it turned out, even without the negatives. Perhaps the dream he thought was false wasn't all too false.
A month after he was released from hospitalization, upon returning home, Button looked up at the sky, thinking about what he could have done to make the date better for future references. As he looked at the night sky, he thought that everything will never turn out as anyone thinks it will, but if one took the precautions, all things will become well. Perhaps next time he and Sweetie Belle went on a date, there will be less pain and more love as he looked upon the stars.
