Episode 59

The Race To Denver

Date: September 10, 1956
Location: Denver, Coltorado

A pony wearing a three peice suit was waiting at a station, when a freight train arrived being pulled by engine 844. It was also pushing two diesels, and between the diesels, and 844 was a boxcar on it's side, being pushed.

Hawkeye: *Stops train* See, I told you we would make it.
Metal Gloss: I'm just surprised we didn't crash.
Hawkeye: Yeah, me too.
T.P.S Pony: Excuse me, how did this happen?
Hawkeye: What? The arrival of our train? We just-
T.P.S Pony: Not that. How did that freight car between the three engines get on it's side?
Hawkeye: Oh, that. It's a long story, but we're not supposed to drive another train until an hour has gone by, so I have enough time to tell you.

Eight hours ago in Cheyenne.

I was just heading towards the station in Cheyenne to get my job from my boss. That's where it all started.

Pete: Pierce, you're working with Metal Gloss on getting empty hopper cars to Denver. They're needed for a coal drag to San Diego.
Hawkeye: I'm on it.
Gordon: *Walks into station* Hey, what are you two talking about?
Hawkeye: We're planning on how to teach you the alphabet.
Pete: And, you are to take a freight train of nails, and brand new Chevy's to Denver.
Hawkeye: Hey, that's where I'm going.
Gordon: Oh no! You're not working with me!
Pete: You're right, but you two are heading to the same destination in different trains.
Gordon: What engines do I have to use?
Pete: Engines 949, and 951.
Hawkeye: And me?
Pete: 844.
Hawkeye: Do you know what this calls for?
Gordon: A race.
Pete: Now, don't get crazy about this race. You two have to get your trains to Denver on time, and if you are one second late, or if you end up derailing one car, I'm going to kick your flanks out of here.
Hawkeye: You have my word of honor.
Gordon: No racing.

Then we both walked out of the station, heading for the yard to get theirs trains.
