3x04: We could of had it all
Rachel and Atie had been standing outside Robb’s door for the last ten minutes. Rachel was shaking and trying to calm her nerves.
“Can I ring the doorbell now?” Atie asked exasperated.
Rachel rolled her eyes, “No, I need to calm down.”
“You’ve been calming for the last ten minutes.” Atie snapped.
“I’m nervous okay?” Rachel said almost in tears. “I don’t want to see him. Looking at him hurts.”
Atie sighed, “I know. I know, okay. But right now Rana really needs us.”
Rachel sighed, “You’re right. You’re right. I’m being ridiculous. Besides Robb was the one who lied to me, if anyone should be nervous it should be him.”
“Yes, exactly.” Atie said agreeing. “Although you should probably go easy on him because he was just trying to help.”
Rachel glared at Atie, “Why is no one ever on my side?”
“You’re so dramatic.” Atie said rolling her eyes and ringing the doorbell.
Rana opened the door frantically and sighed a breath of relief when she saw her sisters. “Thank god the two of you are here!” Rana said with a worried voice. Atie raised her eyebrows, she was so used to her sister always being calm and collected. This was new.
“What’s wrong?” Rachel asked her mom mode immediately kicking in.
“Everything!” Rana breathed out. “Dinner is no where near finished and I’m a mess and they’re going to hate me and no ones going to adopt my baby….”
“Okay, calm down.” Rachel said holding up her hand. “I’ll go check on dinner and Atie will help you get ready.”
“I’ll make you the prettiest potato, ever.” Atie said smiling.
“Are you making fun of my weight?” Rana growled at her little sister.
“No. Potato….it’s our thing!”
“Shut up.” Rana said glaring at her sister and storming off.
“As if normal Rana mood swings weren’t enough now we have to deal with pregnant Rana mood swings.” Atie growled following her very psychotic and frantic sister.
Rachel walked into the kitchen and paused when she saw Robb frantically chopping vegetables.
Robb looked up at her in shock, “Oh, hey.”
“Hey.” Rachel said softly. “Rana was freaking out so I thought I’d help.”
“That would be great actually.” Robb said greatfully. “I stupidly dismissed the kitchen staff today thinking I had dinner down, I was clearly wrong.”
Rachel nodded her head, “What do you want me to do?”
“Check the sauce?” Robb asked.
Rachel nodded her head and started stirring the sauce. They both worked in awkward silence. Rachel knew Robb wanted to say something to her, but she was grateful that he was keeping quiet.
After a few minutes Rachel turned around and glanced at Robb who was very poorly attempting to cut an onion.
“Your supposed to dice it.” Rachel said shooting him a look.
“Dice it?” Robb asked looking down at the mess utterly confused.
Rachel sighed and walked over to him, grabbing his hand she demonstrated to him how to cut it, “Yes, dice it.” She said softly. She was about to walk back over to the sauce when Robb grabbed her hand and swung her so she was facing him. “Thank you.” he said softly. He pushed her hair out of her face and smiled at her. Rachel saw as he slowly began to lean forward so she quickly pulled away.
“No problem.” She muttered walking back over to the sauce. “No problem at all.”
Atie was putting the finishing touches in Rana’s hair when her sister suddenly stood up, “I have to go pee.” She squealed running into the bathroom.
Atie rolled her eyes just as her phone rang. She went to go answer it and smiled when she saw Liam was calling, “Hey.” Atie said happily as she answered the phone.
“Hey.” Liam responded back with a worried voice. “You still at the dinner?”
“It didn’t even start yet.” Atie laughed. “Are you okay, you sound worried?”
“It’s nothing.” Liam said quickly trying to mask his voice. “I just called to check in.”
“Liam, you always seem to forget that I know when you’re lying.”
Liam laughed, “Yeah, I guess. Well don’t panic or worry or anything but I kind of got kicked out.”
Atie’s mouth dropped in shock, “What?”
“Parents wanted me to commit to the business and I couldn’t do it.” Liam said. “So they threw me out.”
“Just like that? I can’t believe them. They’re your parents!”
Liam let out a bitter laugh, “Well, they did.”
“Where are you right now?” Atie asked worried.
“I’m going to Scott’s house. I’m going to crash their for the night, but I won’t be able to stay for long. His parents are friends with mine.”
“Babe, I’m so sorry.” Atie said softly. “Come over tomorrow and we’ll figure this out together. Okay?”
“Yeah, okay.” Liam said softly. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Rana was sitting on the couch, panicking as the doorbell rang. She shot her sister a look, and Rachel chuckled, heading for the door. And as Mary Margaret and David entered, Rana let out a sigh of relief. Maybe a part of her had been afraid that they'd be some sort of ugly deformed monsters who ate babies.
"Hi!" Mary Margaret said with a smile, and when all the introductions were done, the six of them sat down at the dinner table.
"So, Rana, tell us a little about yourself", David said cheerfully, making Rana manip.
"Oh, yes, ahem, well... I'm-"
"She's a really cool person", Atie butted in. "She is smart and funny and definitely has not been drinking alcohol while pregnant, which is actually pretty admirable because she used to drink a lot-"
"But she doesn't anymore", Rachel said quickly. "Rana had a bit of a wild youth, but she's turned herself around,a nd she wants to give this child the best home possible."
"Which we think could be you two", Robb added, smiling at the couple.
Mary Margaret nodded gratefully. "Are you two...?" she gestured at Robb and Rachel.
Rachel cleared her throat, shaking her head. "No, not at all."
An awkward silence filled the room until Atie stood up. "I'm gonna go get the dessert!"
"She seems very enthusiastic", David said with a smile.
"That's Atie, she's just an idiot", Rana muttered. "We haven't even finished the main course."
"I am not an idiot, I'm just hungry for chocolate", Atie announced as she came out with the chocolate cake.
Rachel glared at the cake, realizing that she was actually angry that no one had asked her to cook the meal. Robb had done that, too. Sometimes she felt she was way too hormonal to not be pregnant too. What a disaster.
Somewhere down the dinner party the doorbell rang. Rana froze, wondering who on earth it could be until she realized. It was most likely Jasper. She quickly stood up and excused herself before anyone else could. She quickly grabbed the apron and put it around her belly as she headed for the door.
"Hi!" she said as she opened it indeed to find Jasper. He was holding a pizza box. "Oh, that's so sweet of you, but I already ate."
"You're always hungry for pizza", Jasper reminded her.
"Yes, true, except today because Rachel is here and she's cooking for us", Rana said.
Jasper frowned. "Oh, don't tell me you're trying to get those two back together."
Rana nodded. "Yep, yep, someone has to. So I'm sorry, kind of busy for the night."
Jasper sighed, nodding. He handed her the pizza. "Take this anyway. Did you hear about Liam?"
"Yeah, Atie told me", Rana sighed. "You know, him staying with Atie would not be the worst idea."
"If your sister would allow that", Jasper nodded. "Well, anyway, I guess I'll go and keep him company", he bit his lip. "Rana, I do want us to spend more time together. Whatever it is that you're going through, don't push me away. I don't deserve it."
"I know that", Rana whispered, giving him a smile. "I know you don't. And it will all make sense in time."
Jasper nodded, his gaze moving to the apron. "Why are you wearing that?"
"I helped Rachel cook", Rana lied. "Yep."
"Wow", Jasper smirked. "You're just full of surprises, aren't you?"
Rana snorted. "Oh, you have no idea", she gave him a smile before shutting the door. "Damn it", she whispered as she pressed her head against the door, trying to calm herself. This night was going well, but she still found herself panicking. Being pregnant sucked.
