The next day, the members of The Devil Wants Peace and the members of New Religion went out to eat together. They all got to talk to John's girlfriend, Caryn, through an app that enabled them to see her. When John introduced Erin, Lola, Carl, and Paul, she said, "John has told me a lot about you all." Erin said, "He's told us a lot about you, too. He seems so happy when he talks about you." Caryn said, "Aw! You're just saying that. Really?" Lola said, "It's true." After a pause, Caryn asked, "Are you okay, Paul?" He said, "Yeah, I'm okay." She said, "You look so sad." He said, "I recently lost my Husky, Nunavut." She said, "I'm sorry to hear that. I know that must be hard. If I lost my dog, Georgia, I don't know what I'd do." He said, "I've been trying to write a song for Nunavut, but I can't do it without breaking down. Why is this so hard, Caryn?" She said, "Going through any loss is hard. When you grow to love someone, losing them is always the worst part. I've never lost a dog before, but I did lose a pet once. He was a gerbil. His name was Butter. He was great entertainment, and I loved seeing him pop up when I'd enter the room. When he died, I was heartbroken." Paul asked, "What helped you cope?" Caryn replied, "I allowed myself to be sad for a while. Then, when I started feeling a little bit better, I painted a picture of Butters. Maybe when you start feeling better, it'll be easier for you to write a song for Nunavut. Just take it one day at a time, Paul." He said, "Thank you, Caryn." She said, "You're welcome."
