Scarlet Malone Chapter 10
I got to the home plate and slowed down to a walk. Malone, are you trying to make a point to us? The coach asked. No sir, I was just keeping my pace. I said sort of out of breath but than again I was not out of breath. All right now that we have everyone here, let start with some throws. Coach said. I want all of you to jog except for you Malone. The coach said. Yes sir. I said and walked slowly. Do not ever run a head when we do laps even though that was quit inpressive. For a girl. Coach said. Yes sir, thank you. I said. Everyone pair up. Coach yelled very strictly. I might acually make the team. I squelled to myself. There was one guy left that I had to paired up with. He was very skinny, tall and a bit whimpish. I threw the ball first, everyone was stairs...of course. I threw it like I would regularly throw a ball and the dude I got paired up with couldn't catch if his life depended on it. We got done throwing the ball and than we went to go pitch. Who ever is trying out for pitcher, come over and stand here. I got up
with a couple of other boys and stood in line. The first guy that was up for pitching was really good. The second and third were pretty good too. It was finially my turn. I was so nervious. I got up to the pitcher mound. I think that is what you call it. Okay now do you best to throw to the catcher which is the guy that catches the ball. Coach said. Just because I am a girl does not mean I know nothing about baseball. I said. He just walked away. I remember what Edward taught
me. I went through each step. The first ball I thre was okay, I was just getting warmed up. The second ball I throw with all my might. It was an okay throw I thought but the guys thought other wise. Everyone was watching. I throw another fast ball. Time out! Coach said. I wonder what I did wrong? I thought to myself. Is something wrong? I
asked. Where did you lean to throw like that? Coach asked. Edward Cullen but I knew a little bit on how to throw. I said. Oh okay. Coach said than he turn around walked a little bit away and than told me to throw a few more balls. I throw this ball as hard as possible. The ctacher caught the ball and than took his glove off and shook his hand. I looked at Coach his mouth was hanging open. Should I throw on more? I asked the Coach. He quickly recovered and said yes. This was my last ball so I threw as hard as possible. It was even faster than the last. I could not hold a smile back any more. I had a huge grin across my face. I walked to the dug out. All the guys glared at me, espicially the ones who was trying out for the pitcher. We did a lot of other stuff like sliding towards home plate. Okay hit the shower guys. Coach! Can I talk to you? One of the guys asked. Make it quick. Coach told him. Are you going to let he on the team? The boy asked. I
not sure. Coach said. She better not take my spot, my parents give a lot of money for the baseball fund. The boy said. So he was a rich snob
eh! I thought to myself. I went over to Edward and smiled. You did great. Edward said. Thanks I had a great teacher. I said. I think I am going to call dad and ask him if he is already at the place. I said. Why? Edward asked. I do not feel like getting a car before I am 16 but I do not want to hurt dad's feeling. I said. He will understand. Edward said. Yeah I am going to call him right quick. I said. I quickly pulled my phone out and dialed dad's number. Hey dad. I said. Hey sorry I am just now leaving the hospital. Dad told me. It's okay, but do we have to look today? I am wiped out from try out. I said. No we don't, do you want me to pick you up from school? Dad asked. I looked at Edward wondering what I should do. Edward nodded his head. Yeah, that will be cool. I said. Okay see you in 10 minutes. Dad said and than hung up. Can I stay here till you dad gets here? Edward asked. Sure, but I have to go change. I said walking towards the locker room. Okay. Edward said as he walked with me. I weny inyo the locker room and changed quickly and than went to my locker to grab my books. When I got to my locker I found my hat strapped to my lock. How did this get here? I asked Edward. I guess the new boy brought it back. Edward said. That was very nice of him. I said. I stuck the other hat in my bag and saw my dad pull into school. We went to Edward's car and dad pulled his car next to Edward's. Bye Scarlet. Edward said than kissed me lightly on the lips. Bye Edward and thank you for everything. I said. I open the back door to dad's car and put my backpack and duffle bag int he back seat. I smiled at Edward and got into the front seat. Hey dad. I said when I closed the door. Hey how was try outs? Dad asked. They were good, I am really tired though. I said. We got home and I went straight to the shower. The hot water felt good on my skin. I went downstairs and laid down on the recliner since dad had already taken the couch. I quickly feel asleep. I felt dad pick me up. Its okay, I will walk. I said as he put me down. I stumble up to my room and fell asleep on top of my bed. I was too tired to untuck it.
