MajorAbbey ^And they've only got worse. At least the characters in Barbie's Rapunzel actually looked like people (well, Sims... incidentally, I tried making Barbie Sims once...). The newer ones... well, let's not go there. Anyway, I've always enjoyed "Barbie in the Nutcracker" more than her Rapunzel movie anyway, so no contest, really. Oh, and Blurayz3 is right about the animation, too. That said, I did like the music in Barbie's version, and the dragons. In fact, I found the dragons more interesting than the humans. By the way, is there anyone here who actually likes both? Even if they still prefer one to the other? All the Barbie hate on here is getting depressing...

MajorAbbey I do agree that Tangled is better. Heck, I'm watching it right now. :) But I don't hate all her movies, as the avatar probably suggests. I was just curious to see if there was anyone else who liked both.

Renarimae Actually the Barbie Gothel's pet is a ferret. But I understand why you mistook it to be an otter. I actually mistook it as being a weasel. But on basically everything, I totally agree! And I like Tangled better also because the Rapunzel in it is more outgoing and she can actually do things with her hair.

Lauren_Mallory I love Tangled! Barbie as Rapunzel was okay, but the characters I liked were the dragons. I also didn't really like the way the plot in BaR went, I think Hugo should've killed Gothel War of the Monsters-style at the end. Plus, the characters and music were just better in my opinion. And I will say that Flynn Rider is one of the hottest guys in animation.

sheep2901 First thing first, I watched barbie as rapunzel once and i was sick of it. It was so fake and awful. Rapunzel's hair is supposed to be beautiful and magical but i didn't see any of them in barbie. Second Gothel on barbie doesn't seem like a mother at all and why is she so ugly EW. Last but not least barbie's prince looked like a gay, he is the worst animated character i've ever seen in my whole life. Instead Flynn is handsome, charming, heronic, funny, romantic and he has such an amazing voice. Rapunzel and Flynn are way way way...........much better than barbie and mr whatsisname. I LOVE U TANGLED, i never got tired of watching Tangled and never will be. I gotta to say Flynn definitely is the hottest animated character ever seen. He is AWESOME and I really love his voice.

seasscouture WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK MATTEL WAS SO MUCH WORSE!? IT WAS 2002!!! my god people, get a grip! it was 8 years ago, without the state of the art equitment we have today! Of course barbie and stephan looked wooden, that was the best the animation could get at that time. Frankly, I was quite disappointed with Tangled, maybye it was because as a child i watched Barbie rapunzel all the time so i was expecting somthing much greater. STORYLINE quality wise, I think its about the same. I feel as though tangled was not one of pixars best, I got bored within the middle of it. If i saw tangled first, i probably would have had a different opinion. But since Barbie rapunzel was a childhood memory, The disney version was ehh....

MajorAbbey Hating Tangled doesn't make you a bad person. If Seasscouture prefers Mattel's version, that's not a big deal. Oh, and I agree about the animation; Barbie's Rapunzel was made by a smaller company in a shorter space of time, so of course it's not going to be as good as the animation in Tangled.

xXxWiseGirlxXx I remember watching the Mattel version when I was younger and I loved it. Then I watched it a few months ago and I was soooooo bored! Tangled is SO MUCH better! I quote it all the time and Flynn is, without a doubt, the hottest animated guy of all time! *sigh* But I have to say, not all the Barbie movies are as bad as the Rapunzel one. Even though the newer ones are getting weirder and weirder, there are some good ones. Likeone of myfavorites :The Princess and the Pauper (Mattel made a new one called The Princess andthe Popstar! The heck? They've obviously ran out of ideas a long time ago :/) But in this catagory Tangled wins. Hands down. :)

SilentForce First of all I must say that you article has some mistakes in it.Stefan doesn't have 4 sisters but 3 and Rapunzel's mother is not dead,she actually appears at the wedding scene in the end. Second I am sick of all the comments that are dissing Mattel's Rapunzel because of the animation.All of you need to get things straight: 1.You can't compare a movie that was only made for DVD release to a movie that was made for worldwide Cinematic release. 2.Disney and Mattel are to different companies.Disney is a movie company that has very long experience in making animated movies while Mattel is a toy company that had no experience at making movies at that time and has a limited budget for movies because they only release them as DVD's. 3.It was FREAKING 2002 so of course that it isn't going to be as good as movie from 2010 because computer animation back then wasn't as advanced as it is today Now back to the subject: I am sorry to tell you the cold and harsh truth but Barbie as Rapunzel is superior to Tangled and here are the reasons why: 1.Tangled copied elements from Barbie As Rapunzel Lets start with the first reason why Barbie as Rapunzel is much better.Tangled too many elements from this movie such as:Rapunzel being a princess that was kidnapped(thats right Rapunzel was not a princess in the original fairy tale and she wasn't kidnapped either,her parents were forced to give her to Gothel because they stole from her garden.Mattel was the one who turned Rapunzel into a kidnaped princess.),Rapunzel's love for art, the pink and violet dress and even a reptile sidekick for Rapunzel. 2.The plot is much better: Barbie as Rapunzel has a much better and interesting plot.Disney had opportunity to make a great fairytale movie but instead they choose to turn it into Dreamworks ripoff filled with stupid chasing scenes,same old tired jokes and full of random things.Almost nothing in Tangled makes any damn freaking sense:For example:Maximus being a horse but acting like a dog?Seriously,this is just retarded.Another random thing is having a thief as a main hero.Other things that don't make sense:Why the hell were the soldiers unable to find Rapunzel even though the tower wasn't hidden that well?Why was Gothel so idiotic to think that she could keep Rapunzel locked forever just by lying to her that the outside world is dangerous?Also why is Gothel so stupid to tell Rapunzel her real birthday?It must have been impossible for Gothel to not realize that the reason why the lanterns shine only on Rapunzel birthday was because the King and Queen hoped to find their daughter.Maximus being able to ask the ruffians for help even though he can't talk?"I Have a Dream"is also the most random and unnecessary song in the history of musical Disney movies. Gladly,none of this stupidity can be found in Barbie as Rapunzel.Gothel was already smart enough to build a high magical wall that would prevent anyone from entering.This fact explains perfectly why Rapunzel was not able to escape or why nobody could find her for so many years.The fact that Rapunzel later finds freedom with the help of her parents love(the whole magic of the hairbrush can be interpreted of how powerful a parents love for their children can be and what it can do for them)also makes everything better.Another thing that makes Barbie as Rapunzel much more interesting is the fact that we don't find out the reasons why Gothel kidnapped until the end while in Tangled we find it out in the very begin which makes everything boring.The feuding kingdoms subplot was also very interesting and mature. 3.It teaches better morals Barbie as Rapunzel teaches good morals such as how important it is to be honest,loyal,brave and selfless.Rapunzel's pure heart was the reason why Gothel's spell had no effect on her.It also teaches that you should never lose the hope that one day you big dream will come true 4.The characters are better written: Barbie's Rapunzel is smart,honest,loyal,brave,nice and sweet and actually acts like a person that has spend her entire life being isolated from the world.Tangled's Rapunzel acts more like a spoiled child. I don't see how people are saying that Stefan is not a good character.He is a good hearted and brave young man that loves and protects his siblings.He wants the meaningless feud between the two kingdoms to stop and he also wants to find a woman who loves him for who he is and not for his crown. Barbie's Gothel is a one million times better villain than Tangled's Gothel.See this Gothel actually has enough intelligence to figure out that she can't keep Rapunzel locked forever just by telling her how dangerous the outside world is and thats why she created a high magical wall that prevents anyone from leaving the place(or entering it from the outside) as a plan B.Barbie's Gothel has the true presence of a villain:cold,arrogant,calculated and pure evil.She kidnapped Rapunzel as a revenge that Rapunzel's father didn't love her and in this way caused a feud between two kingdoms.Tangled's Gothel on the other hand is by far the most overrated Disney villain that was ever created.She is obsessed with staying young forever(one of the most ridiculous and cliche villain motives) and stupid enough to not figure out that Rapunzel she couldn't keep Rapunzel locker forever just by lying to her that the outside world is dangerous and not figuring out that Rapunzel might actually run away during Gothel idiotic journey's. 5.Better music Even though Tangled is a musical it is full of forgettable songs.Barbie's Rapunzel on the other hands has beautiful songs like:Constant as The Stars Above and the instrumental theme.

PsycoMonster II disagree with you but find the opinion of "Silent Force" and "Sea Scouture" much better. The animation is for the year and Budge really fine. In addition, the story is more important to me, which is why I say it balances out great. I think the story is great and I also think that the caracters behave better for the century. That Prince Eric behave or dress feminine is, in my opinion, total idiocy. I mean he did not complain about that one had not painted his nose properly or that one could not resist his pout. I mean who would do that ... * cough * Flinn * cough *. By the way, Eric wore a pretty similar outfit to Flinns who wore it the whole movie, it lookd pretty similar. I also think that Barbie Rapunzel has been taken very seriously and is not such a shit copy where no pig really behaves as if he was still normal. To be honest, I find Barbie rapunzel better than the shit which is instead of beautiful and serious, really just another joke after another.
