Chapter 24
Maternal instinct
“Oh! My lovely baby’s growing up!” My mom squeals while I hold a groan.
“Mom please!” I whine. “Were here for shopping not gushing.”
Mom rolled her eyes. “It’s clothes shopping, stupid. Gushing is mandatory. And you in that dress! Oh the tears!”
I smile as she clutches herself dramatically. “Whatever.”
After that little get together, which wasn’t that bad when I look back on it. I mean Meredith and Talia were about to rip each other, Adam, Ali, Sage, were in war for a game of life, Ryler and I talking was bliss, and Beth managed to get away from Cal and squeeze between us, which made the day all better.
Anyways, mom cornered me the next day to go shopping, and for us Jones’s girl’s shopping usually meant hanging out. We like to call it the JG day, Jones’s Girl’s day, and it’s always fun. I guess it’s a mother daughter event, but I like it the way we made it up.
We usually shop, dine, and talk, it’s real fun, and it always gets my mind off things.
“So how are the gal’s?” Mom asks, as she rifles through a pile of clothes.
“Fine as usual,” I say. “How about you? Anything exciting?”
Mom shook her head, wrinkling her nose. “Sadly no, you’d think being little old moi would get you somewhere, but no. So far thing’s are just dull.”
“Not when the Jones’s are around,” I remind her. “Remember that thing for your job where you invited your family and many workers said we actually had life in us, compared to the other people.”
Mom nods, enthusiastically. “Can’t have a little crazy without us.” She picks up a cute blouse. “Thoughts?”
“Cute, not too little girl, but not too professional experienced woman. Would be nice with that skirt,” I point to a skirt beside it.
Mom smiles. “That’s my fashionista! It’s nice to know someone in this family’s got good taste.”
If I forget to tell you, then I’m really sorry. But my mom is a fashion designer, she’s barely at home, but yet she’s always there. She’s like super mom how she manages to juggle it all and still have her sanity intact. She’s a great mother.
I nod, laughing. “Mom I forgot to tell you, I tricked Adam into playing Life again, yesterday at the get together.”
“Well butter my bacon, what happened?!”
“I wasn’t paying attention, but Ali and Sage were dying of laughter and Adam was getting another boarding game out.”
Mom giggled. “When will that boy ever learn?”
I nod, “I let the gal’s get him for me, and I believe they did a very good job.”
Mom sighed, then looked at me. “Speaking of Adam, he tells me that you and his roommate…Tyler?”
“Ryler,” I correct quickly, knowing it was a mistake right after.”
“Ryler,” mom waggles her eyebrow at me. “Were getting very close.”
“Mom!” I whine.
“Tell me, Sugar bub!”
“Okay, okay, fine. So Adam’s visiting and Ryler was accompanying him too. And well I met him early the next morning and we like the same things, he’s sweet, cute, and funny…”
“Way better than Cal?” Mom asked, I nodded and she squealed. “My baby’s in love!”
“Mom!”
“Sorry, sorry,” she shakes her head, her dark brown hair going all over the place. “Sorry.”
“Thanks for trusting me mom,” I say, grinning at her.
“What’s not to trust?” She hooks her arms through mine. “I know my baby, and I’ve got some sick maternal instinct, I know when something’s wrong and when it’s not.”
“That’s my mom,” I say as we go to the candy place and raid the twizzlers section.

It's sad
It's the truth
Fighting through what it is
But I'll be stronger
I've gone through
Mounds of pain
I've been through
The deepest waters
Nobody can change my past
It's the truth, and it changed me
Sad to even hear the truth
Sad to...say the truth
Reality's always sad
And no one's gonna escape it.
It's how I became who I am today
It's how I didn't brag.
Why does this have to happen?
Why did it have to end?
Why does the world have to be so confusing?
Why did the fun have to end?
The world's just a crazy place
And no one's gonna stop that thought
Cause I'm broken for good...
Because of...the truth.
It's the truth
Fighting through what it is
But I'll be stronger
I've gone through

I've been through

Tell me darling why you cry,
Your tears stain the bed you lay upon
Could it be you miss the ones you clung to so tight,
Nothing but a scared little fawn
The flames burnt away your past and future,
The hate did nothing but balance your grief
What now? That’s presents question,
Something so fragile like a branch being clung to by a leaf
Where is your mother little dove?
What happened to those loving others who filled your empty nest?
How many word of the world can you rhyme with love?
Perhaps someday we will know with, proper care and rest
When pursuing dreams take chances and strive for nothing less than best
Then only then can you be sure you’ve completed life’s most demanding quest
Your tears stain the bed you lay upon
Could it be you miss the ones you clung to so tight,
Nothing but a scared little fawn
The flames burnt away your past and future,
The hate did nothing but balance your grief
What now? That’s presents question,

Then only then can you be sure you’ve completed life’s most demanding quest
Soar, soar
Soar beyond your wildest dreams.....
There's no limit
On how much you can soar
No one can
Break your wings and kill you
Soar for the skies,
Don't let the feelin go
Just soar, soar like never before
No one's gonna stop you
From believin
There wasn't a time
When nobody could never soar
But there was a time
When people never believed
And tomorrow
Isn't the day to fall
And nobody's gonna push you down
Oh almighty eagle
We're gonna be the powerful eagles
We're not gonna let anyone
Be our ruler,
We're not anyone's slave
Almighty eagle
Oh soar, soar towards the sky's height
And soar toward your dream
Let nothing keep you away
Almighty eagle
Soar beyond your wildest dreams
And we're gonna fly tonight
Let nobody keep us down.
Life can be hard. Especially for me, Lily West, your almost-average 16-year-old girl. Most people think it's weird I'm bald. Others think I'm going to die. Then there's the occasional person who tries to take pity upon me. I'd rather they not, because some say it like I'm a helpless little turtle on its back. Sometimes I wish I die already, and sometimes I wish that I was a completely different person. Yes, it's tough having cancer. I just wish that they would respect me for a person instead of a helpless little bug.
