“Baseball?”
He smiled sweetly at me. “I knew you would love it.”
“Baseball?”
His smile faltered. “I thought you liked spending time with my family?”
“BASEBALL?” I screamed at him. “You want me to play baseball with your family?!”
He backed away from me.
“Be quiet, Kayla,” he shushed me. “Charlie will hear and come-”
There were quick footsteps on the stairs. Edward ran and hid in my closet and I quickly picked up my cell phone.
“You have got to be kidding me!” I shouted down my cell.
My door opened and Charlie walked in. He looked around my room suspiciously, trying to find a certain someone.
I covered the mouthpiece of my phone.
“I’m on the phone, Dad,” I said, irritably. “Go away!”
Charlie eye’s narrowed.
“I heard you shouting,” he said. His eyes did another scan of my room.
“Yeah, I was shouting at Mike.” I lied. “He wants me to go play baseball with him and his family.”
“You don’t like sports,” Charlie stated.
“I know I don’t. That’s what I was about to tell him before you barged in.”
Charlie nodded and backed out of the room, still scanning with his eyes. He closed my door silently and I waited to hear his footsteps. When I didn’t I walked over and opened the door.
“Go away!” I half shouted. “Can’t I have any privacy?”
I shooed him away with my hand and put the phone back to my ear.
“About the baseball,” I said to the imaginary Mike. “I really can’t.”
I walked back into my room and shut the door. I listened hard and heard Charlie going back downstairs.
I chucked my phone onto my bed and walked over to my closet. I had opened the door when Edward’s white hand shot out and pulled me into the closet. He closed the door and put a finger to my lips.
“Do not shout,” he whispered. “If you shout then Charlie will find me. Do you want that to happen?”
I shook my head.
“Good,” he said, removing his finger from my lips.
“You want me to play baseball?” I whispered angrily. “Are you crazy?”
“I didn’t know you hated sports,” Edward whispered back. “You never have a problem in Gym.”
“Have you seen me in Gym?” I asked.
“Well, most of the time you aren’t really playing.”
“Because I hate it. It is a horrible torture method the government use to persecute children.”
Edward chuckled.
“It isn’t all bad,” he said. “When we play baseball it’s quite entertaining.”
“How?”
“You’ll find out if you agree to play. Will you?”
I didn’t really want to play any type of sport even if vampires were involved. I wasn’t really any good at baseball because it’s not a sport you play in England. Edward was pleading with his liquid gold eyes and I could feel my stubbornness and unwillingness melting.
“Fine,” I said. “But I am not very good.”
“That doesn’t matter,” he said, kissing me softly on the lips.

I was eyeing the bat nervously. It felt heavy and clumpy in my hands.
“What if I don’t hit the ball?” I asked Edward. “I will look like an idiot.”
“Alice will through the ball so you can hit it easily,” Edward assured me.
I was in a clearing that the Cullens’ used to play baseball. I hadn’t understood when Edward was still adamant on playing baseball even though it was forecasted to be thunder and lightening. When I got here and watched him play with his family then I understood. When Rosalie had hit the ball it sounded like a clap of thunder. I hadn’t even realised Alice had thrown the ball because she moved so fast. It was amazing. I didn’t know if I would be able to play like them. I was just a little slower than the vampires.
“You’ll be great,” Edward whispered in my ear. He was close to me, helping me hold the bat properly and get in the right stance. “When you hit the ball-”
“If I hit the ball,” I muttered.
“When you hit the ball,” Edward repeated with added emphasis on ‘when’. “Drop the bat and run as fast as you can around all of the bases.”
“I won’t hit it far enough to make it around all the bases.”
“You will.”
He nodded at Alice and moved away from me.
I swallowed and held the bat up, ready to take a swinging miss at the ball. I was not let down.
The ball zoomed right past me. Esme caught it behind me.
“Don’t fret,” she told me, smiling. “It’s your first time.”
She threw it back to Alice who caught it deftly. Alice pulled her arm back and threw the ball again. I didn’t have to think let alone swing before the ball flew past me and landed in Esme’s hands.
“You’re all against me,” I muttered.
Esme laughed and the ball was back in Alice’s hands.
“Let’s move in!” I head Emmett shout. “The human’s playing. She won’t hit it too far.”
I growled. I would not take that. I would hit the ball so far away I would have six home runs before Emmett even caught the ball.
I held the bat securely and focused on the ball. I would try to slow the ball down with my mind. Not physically slow it down, just like I was watching it in slow motion. So I could time it perfectly when I should hit it.
Alice’s hand let go of the ball and it was flying towards me. I swung the bat forwards at the correct time and the ball hit off it with a sound just like thunder. The ball soared into the air and was rocketing over the trees in front of us. Emmett was watching the ball with a stunned face. I dropped the bat and ran. As I ran past first base, Emmett realised that he had to go after it. I ran right round and saw Emmett standing at the trees. I was nearing third base when I saw him throw the ball. I pushed my legs harder and sprinted. I was close to getting a home run and I would not let Emmett ruin it. Just as it seemed Esme would catch the ball my feet touched the base. The landed softly in Esme’s outstretched hands. I was lying on the ground and I knew I had just ruined my best tracksuit. Before I had time to complain I was standing up. Edward’s face was smug.
“I knew you could do it,” he said, smiling.
“You’re just happy because I beat Emmett again,” I replied.
“I’m happy for you too.” He kissed me and then picked up the bat. “My turn.”
I rolled my eyes and began to dust myself down. I would never do that again. I had seen it on TV and thought it would be fun to skid to the base on my legs but no. It just ruined my clothes.
“STOP!”
I lifted my head and saw Alice staring blankly from her pitcher’s mound. I looked at Edward who was watching her intensely. I knew that he would see whatever she could see. I watched them both, unsure what was happening. Why would we have to stop the game? It was just a vision, right? Nothing serious?
Alice blinked and Edward turned away from her. Jasper and Carlisle appeared from no where at her side. Jasper put an arm around her shoulders and Carlisle was asking her questions.
“We have to go.” Edward was now at my side and dragging me away from the game.
“What? No.” I planted my feet firmly in the ground. I was not leaving until he gave me a good reason why. He tugged on my hand and turned when he realised I wasn’t moving. He sighed and picked me up.
“Put me down!” I ordered him but he ignored me. “What the hell is going on, Edward?!”
“Vampires!” he hissed through his teeth.
“Vampires?” I repeated. “Coming here?”
“They heard us playing and wanted to check it out,” he explained. “I have to get you away from here.”
“Why?” I asked. “They won’t notice I’m human. I’m just as fast and as strong as you.”
“I think one of them smelled you.” Edward’s eyes were constantly moving, never still, searching the trees around me, watching for any vampires that might jump out.
“Smelled me?” I remembered what Charlie had said about me being more appealing than other humans.
He nodded impatiently.
“We can’t go,” I said. “It’s too late. If the vampire’s smelled me then it’s too late to leave. He’ll just follow the scent but if we stay here we can make it look like another human was here. Just say I’m a vampire and we’re sorted.”
I was still in Edward’s arms and I could see the temptation in his mind to whisk me away somewhere remote and safe.
“You said you weren’t going to be over-overprotective,” I reminded him.
Edward was silent for a few moments.
“We have to go back,” he sighed. “We’re too late to run. They’re already here.”
“What do I do?” I asked.
“Do not speak or move.”
I nodded. Edward put me down and we walked fast back to the others.

I know it sounds just like Twilight but I have been reading your comments and you all want a way for Kayla and Edward to be together forever. So I am thinking of a way and it’s got to play out like this. Hope you enjoyed it.
