Remember the sequel to the Kayla Series is called Kayla's Secret.
Oh, if you want to read Kayla's Secret you have to read the Kayla series first.

When I woke up the next morning, I was lying on my own bed. Edward was not next to me or hiding in the corner. Next to me, on my pillow, was a note.
I had to leave early. Alice needed me. I’m sorry. I will pick you up for school at eight thirty. Love, Edward. x
Edward usually woke me up for school. He never slept so he could watch the time for me. I put the note back on my pillow and glanced at the watch on my wrist. It was quarter past eight. I threw the blankets off me and jumped out of bed. I hated waking up late. Why didn’t he call me on my cell and wake me up. Damn him! I quickly got dressed and made my hair look as decent as possible. I ran into the bathroom and shoved the toothbrush in my mouth, brushing as fast as I could. I then sprinted down the stairs and walked at a normal pace so it looked like I hadn’t slept in but had been awake all the time.
Charlie was sitting at the kitchen table, eating a bowl of cereal. I hunted through the cupboards for a quick breakfast and settled on a granola bar.
“Did you sleep in?” Charlie asked me.
“No,” I lied. “I was finishing off some schoolwork.”
“But you have your exams start next week,” Charlie reminded me. “I thought they stop giving you work but make you do loads of revision.”
“That’s what I was doing,” I said. “I was doing this sheet thing that was revision for history. It was a timeline of medicine through time, starting at prehistoric right through to the twentieth century. I fell asleep while doing it last night.”
“Uh-huh.” Charlie knew that I was lying. People should never let me get up in the mornings; it was the worst time for me to do anything. I can’t lie, revise, cook, practically anything until the clock hits noon.
I walked through to the living-room, munching on my granola bar as I did. I couldn’t believe that it was nearly the end of school Graduation was on the sixth of June. I had officially been lived in Forks a year and two days today. I was seventeen now, my birthday being on the 7th of April. It was now May the third. Exams began on the sixth. I had a whole weekend to study for them. I was crapping myself. It was ok for Edward and Alice. This wasn’t there first time through high school; I bet this wasn’t even their thirtieth. Me? This was my first time through high school and I prayed to God that it would be the last. I don’t care how many years I lived on this planet; I would not be repeating the torture that was school.
I threw the wrapper of the granola bar in the bin and picked up my backpack which was heavy due to the colossal sized textbooks they gave us to revise from. I heaved it onto my back and walked back to the kitchen.
“See you later,” I said to Charlie. “I’m going to school.”
“Edward’s not here yet,” Charlie said, looking at the clock on the kitchen wall.
At that exact moment Edward’s silver Volvo signal that he had arrived.
“Bye,” I waved at Charlie.
“How does that boy do that?” I heard Charlie mutter as I walked out the kitchen.
Edward was leaning on his car when I opened the front door. When he saw me, he smiled widely at me. I walked over to him and he kissed me lightly on the lips.
“What are you so happy about?” I asked him.
“Nothing,” he said, too innocently. “Just happy to see you.”
“Sure,” I said. I walked around to the passenger side. The door was already open and Edward sitting in the driver seat. I put my seatbelt on and watched Edward as he started the car and drove away from my house.
“Seriously,” I said. “I have never seen you smile so much. What’s going on?”
“Oh, you’ll see,” Edward said, mysteriously.
“I’ll see what?”
“Just wait until after school.”

“Oh my god!”
“Do you like it?”
“Like it? Oh my god I love it!”
In front of me was a masterpiece. A beautiful, sleek, black BMW. It was just as gorgeous as the Aston Martin. Edward always loved fast cars. This would be another addition to his collection. I touched the black shiny metal and wished that it was mine.
“It is yours,” Edward said. He leaned against the car and watched me expectantly. His golden eyes shone with excitement.
“Mine?” I looked at the car then at Edward then at the car and back at Edward. I was totally shocked and unprepared for this. Not a whisper of this car had gone through his mind today. Believe me, I checked. “It’s a BMW for Christ’s sake! What the hell did you buy me a car for?”
“Your birthday.”
“That was over three weeks ago,” I reminded him. “And you already got me something.” I pointed at the golden heart locket that was around my neck. It was amazingly beautiful with my name engraved on the front in what looked like Edward’s handwriting. Inside was a picture of us. “Plus the bracelet in my jewellery box.”
“I bought the car for your birthday,” Edward said. “It just arrived late. You know, postage and packaging. Or shipping. Whatever it is they do with cars. And anyway, you said you wanted a car.”
“Yeah but that didn’t mean you had to go out and buy one.”
“Well, I thought you might like it since you can drive now. You passed your driving test months ago.”
“I was going to buy my own car. Or get Charlie to buy me one.”
“But I wanted to buy you your first car.” Edward sounded like a stubborn child. I smiled at him. He even folded his arms across his chest. His golden eyes looked almost sullen but I knew he wasn’t really annoyed.
“I don’t even know why I celebrated my birthday,” I sighed. “It’s not like I’m getting any older. Not really.”
“You can still have your birthday, Kayla. Just because your body doesn’t show any sign of ageing doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate your birthday.”
“But you don’t have your birthday,” I said. “I don’t even know when your birthday is.”
“It’s been decades since I celebrated my birthday,” Edward said, quietly. “There is no need to anyway. I am not keeping secrets from anyone.”
I looked down at my feet. He was right. Again. Of course I had to keep up the pretence of me being human. Charlie still didn’t know about my immortality. When would I tell him? When he was 50 and I was supposed to be in my twenties but still sixteen? When he was on his deathbed at 97 looking pale and shrivelled and I was still a healthy teenager?
“I didn’t mean to upset you.” Edward’s arms were around me in seconds and pulling me close to him. “What I meant was, we can’t let your birthday go past unnoticed. You’re seventeen now. No matter what age your body is stuck at, you are seventeen.”
“So how old are you then?”
“I’d rather not say.” Edward spoke quickly and clearing his mind of any thoughts of birthdays.
“Are you 200? 300?”
“Not that old,” Edward chuckled.
“50? 80?”
“Try 107.”
“That is old,” I said. “But I like older men.”
“I thought you preferred your men dead?”
“Old and dead then,” I amended.
He chuckled quietly and pulled me closer still to his chest. He didn’t feel so cold now that my body temperature had dropped. It was a nice cold though.
“You do like the car, don’t you?” Edward asked.
I looked up at him and saw his eyes were wary. He didn’t know what to expect from me. I didn’t know much about cars. I just look at a car and if I like the colour then I like the entire car. Edward must have spent ages trying to find the right one for me.
“I love it,” I assured him. “I can’t wait to test drive it.”
He smiled down at me, his eyes flashing wickedly. I loved it when that happened.
“Let’s go then.”
