#50: Baka and Test
Now, if you want an anime that has the most insane humor imaginable, I can’t think of anything like Baka and Test. The anime is about Yoshii, who is the school’s biggest idiot, who attends Class F, which is the worst possible class to be in, as he and his classmates try to earn the respect of the school by defeating all the more intelligent classes in a Summoner Test War. And, like I said, the humor is just insane. From Yoshii always getting beaten up by some insane cult that disapproves of women, to one of the Class F students getting tazed, to one of the major characters gender being so confusing to tell what it is, that the world just makes him his own gender. It’s just crazy. Now, some people say that the characters are usually too hard on each other to the point of being enemies. But, let me tell you. If you were in the worst class in your school, do you honestly think people would be friendly? Not really. So, yeah, if you’re into the insane kind of humor, then this is the show for you.
#49: Persona 4: The Animation
Hell yes. It’s the anime that is based off of one of the most popular RPG’s of all time… and I never played it. Yeah, I went into this anime without any knowledge as to what Persona was. And, after watching, I can safely say that I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME SO BADLY! The game is about Yu Narukami, a quiet and polite young man, who temporarily lives with his uncle and younger cousin in the small town of Inaba. Here, he meets new people, and he soon discovers the Midnight Channel, a world inside the TV that is used in the murder case that is going on in Inaba that Yu and his friends soon try to solve. And I have to say, the characters in this anime are incredible. There’s Yosuke, one of the best comic relief's I’ve seen in anime. Chie, an upbeat girl who loves kung fu. Yukiko, and elegant but shy girl. Kanji, who is somewhat of a delinquent. Teddie, a resident to the TV world. Rise, a popular Japanese idol. And Naoto, a young and smart detective. And I got to say, the humor is REALLY well done with this anime. It is easily one of the funniest that I have seen, and I rarely find the humor unfunny. This is easily one of the best video game based animated shows out there.
#48: Naruto
Okay, considering I already talked about Bleach, and Naruto is here, you can probably tell what my favorite of the Big 3 is. But, that doesn’t stop Naruto from being awesome. This anime is about Naruto, a young ninja, who is told that he carries the Nine-Tails fox inside of him, which lead to him being a ninja. After which, he joins Team 7, alongside Sasuke and Sakura. Now, what makes this anime so cool… other than the fact that there are freaking ninjas in it, is the fact that it has so many awesome characters to mention. Sure there are some…. not so great characters (COUGH Sasuke COUGH) , but there are certainly a lot of really awesome characters. And each one having some of the coolest ninja moves I have seen. And, I saw this anime when I was eight, so seeing this kind of stuff at an early age just blew my mind. I haven’t seen Naruto Shippuden yet, but there is no doubt in my mind that it is just as awesome as this one.
#47: Inuyasha
Now this one is very big on nostalgia. Inuyasha is about a girl named Kagome, who enters a well that takes her five hundred years into the past, where she is then met with Inuyasha, a demon, who she gains the aid of to help her defend herself from the many dangerous creatures in this unknown world. Now, again, this is an anime that I love due to how nostalgic it is. I was six when I watched this for the first time. I would wake up very early in the morning, like, 5 AM Eastern Standard Time, and would watch this show. Sure, six probably isn’t the right age to watch this show, but I didn’t care. It was still awesome. What really makes it awesome is it’s monster designs. I hadn’t seen anything like it. The designs were some of the best that I had seen when I was at that age, and it was just so freaking awesome. Sure, I wasn’t at the right age to understand what Inuyasha was about, but there is no way that I couldn’t enjoy it……………. Also, there was an episode where Kagome takes a bath. I’m sure that has some use to someone out there.
#46: Kirby Right Back At Ya
Yep. Like Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros Super Show, and Persona 4: The Animation, if you know the games, then you know the story. The show is about Kirby, a baby Star Warrior, who is meant to save the galaxy, while King Dedede, the jealous ruler of the planet Pop Star, tries to get rid of Kirby with the help of monsters he buys from Nightmare Enterprises. Now, is the show weird- Yes. It is. It’s about a cute, pink, round creature that eats, as well as sucks up enemies, gains their abilities, and uses it on other enemies. But, is it a good show. Oh, without question. Sure, each episode can get a bit repetitive with the whole, “Dedede gets a monster, monster attacks Kirby, and Kirby defeats it” formula, but it’s just so hard to not enjoy this show. I quite personally enjoyed this show, and I will stick to that opinion no matter what anyone says
#45: Kill La Kill
This anime’s idea makes no sense. An anime where school uniforms turn into powerful suits. That makes no sense….. And it is still awesome. The series is about Ryuko Matoi, a girl who is trying to find the wielder of the scissor blade for killing her father. Her search leads her to Honnouji Academy, which is taken over by the student council. Ryuko then joins forces with a living uniform named Senketsu to fight the student council and discover the truth. Now, like I said before, this anime is pretty odd. But that doesn’t stop it from being awesome. I have never seen an anime with such amazing animation style like this. I love this anime the same reason I love Panty and Stocking. The animation style is just so amazing. Though, unlike Panty and Stocking, this series isn’t riddled with sex humor. This series is just so awesome, and has an amazing art style. Odd, yeah, but it is still so amazing to look at and enjoy
#44: Megas XLR
Oh hell yes, this show. The show is about a human resistance sending a large robot into the past to try and defeat a dangerous alien race. However, after something goes wrong, it goes into the year 2004, where the robot ends up in the hands of the protagonist, Coop, who modifies the robot to look like a 70’s hot rod. And once he has the robot in his possession, insane amounts of awesome fight scenes and humor ensues. Throughout the series, Coop uses the robot to hang out with his friends, travel around in it and just goof off, but occasionally fights any alien threat. What makes the show so great is it’s amazing sense of humor. There are so many moments to list, like how the world doesn’t care if you have a giant robot, you still need to go to the DMV. Not to mention the numerous times that the creators are always trying to destroy MTV in some way. A cartoon that gives the middle finger to MTV. Yep, this show is awesome. Sadly, though, due to financial problems, the show only lasted two seasons. I do hear it will come back soon, and, god, I hope so. This show was awesome and it needs a comeback.
#43: Gargoyles
Lets look at one of Disney’s darker TV shows. After most of the Gargoyles are killed in the year 994, they sleep for one hundred years and wake up later in 1994, after the castle was bought by billionaire David Xanatos. Here, the Gargoyles have to adjust to the new world, as well as defend it from evil at night, with the help of a detective named Eliza Maza. What makes the show so awesome is that this was something Disney had never done before. This was around the time they were releasing a bunch of kid friendly shows like Goof Troop and Ducktales. A bunch of simple shows with simple stories were released around this time. That’s why Gargoyles was so awesome. It was because Disney was taking a more darker approach to their shows, with more detailed and serious stories. The show was so good, infact, that it gained a popular and there are still fans today. For a show that is over fifteen years old. It just goes to show that even the best of shows have staying power. And Gargoyles is a perfect example of it.
#42: Hellsing Ultimate
We haven’t had a disturbing anime on the list yet. So, let’s talk about just that. Hellsing Ultimate is about a vampire killing organization known as Hellsing, which is run by the Hellsing family, and is currently ran by Sir Integra. She is protected by her loyal ally, Alucard, an immortal and powerful vampire that swore loyalty to the Hellsing family one hundred years ago. As they hunt down vampires and the undead, they then learn of a group of Nazis known as Millennium, whose goal is to fight against humanity and kill Alucard to end a long lasting feud that started in World War II. What makes the series so amazing are is its art style. The art style is just so amazing, even by anime standards. And, I don’t think there is an anime out there that makes the deaths of a large group of soldiers look this beautiful… You know, as beautiful as you can make mass murder. It’s the animation. What do you expect. Sure, this anime got disturbing… like, A LOT, but, it was still so awesome. I easily recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys a rather violent horror anime… or watch the abridged. I hear it’s very popular.
#41: Hetalia
Now, stereotypes are hit or miss for me. You need to have a well use joke to get a laugh out of me when using stereotypes. And does Hetalia use stereotypes well. The answer is OH GOD, YES! The plot of Hetalia is…. well, there is no plot. It’s just a series about people named after countries that are used to describe their politics and history in a comedic way. And by god, they do it perfectly. They describe the history of everything from World War I to present time. From America being very nosy (Which is actually kinda true), to Germany having to pay back other countries, to Canada being overshadowed by America, to Russia being pretty scary. For someone who majors in History class in school, this is some kind of humor that I can really enjoy. If you are not a fan of or just don’t understand history, then this isn’t for you. But if you do, then this is a must see series. It’s one of Funimation’s best.
