Back when I was just a wee lad that had first stepped into the world of fighting games and thought Melee was the greatest fighting game in the world, the word Soul Calibur got thrown around quite a bit. I was told it was something unique to itself, allowing weapons. And then I was reminded of Mortal Kombat: Deception, but Soul Calibur is better known for weapon fighting. So the chance I got to play Soul Calibur V, I hated it. I hated the story, the characters, and the lack of major features, and decided to let this game die. But after some time, and realizing that Soul Calibur III was the actual worst, I went back to V, and now I love this game.
That being said, the original points still stand. The hour long excuse of a story is not good and a majority of the new characters are forgettable at best and Patroklos at worst. But the gameplay, the satisfying feeling of landing a finishing blow and doing major combos with your weapons, more than makes up for it. The feeling of laying down your attacks on enemies, chipping away at their armor or even ringing them out just feels good. The game is also real quick with matches. Before you know it, a match could be over as soon as it started. Not that that’s a bad thing. You get more than enough rounds to keep the fights going, since it goes for a best of five style. It gives you plenty of time to get used to your character and experiment with them, as well as finishing off your opponent. Each character feels different for once, and not similar to other fighting games like say Tekken or god forbid Smash Bros Melee. You get used to each character and learn to do better with some over others, and none of the characters feel terrible to play with (Except Phyrra because why would you allow a character that hates fighting into a fighting game). But aside from that example, each character has a unique style and none feel similar to anyone else, most likely cause of the weapons they use being different from each other. And of course, there are character creations. Not as massive and as creative and meme worthy as Soul Calibur VI, but we’ll talk about that later.
Soul Calibur V is not a perfect game, and I’ve heard people say that II was a far more interesting game. I wouldn’t know, I have only played a few hours at a friends house. But Soul Calibur V is the one I spent the most time going through and experiencing, and I had a ton of fun with it. It’s not my favorite Soul Calibur game, but boy, it’s pretty damn good.
Henry: so... what are you working on?
Simon: none of your concern
Henry: can I help?
Simon: why should I let a insecure 19 year old with no experiences with science help me?
Henry: point taken
Simon: why are you in here?
Henry: I just want to know what you are making!
Simon: a cure for cancer
Henry: how will that help the war?
Simon: not every thing has to be about war... it will help the lives of millions! and some might see the day this chaos ends...
Henry: ok then... whats the progress?
Simon: dead-fuc*ing-end
Henry: welcome to my world
