Chapter Fifteen
Why you so obsessed with me? Boy I want to know….
Glory sat up in bed with a gasp, reaching for her cell phone without really comprehending that it was actually ringing.
“ Hello?” She blurted without looking to see who was calling.
“ Glory Elizabeth Anderson, where are you?” Nicole Anderson almost shrieked.
“ Mom?” Glory mumbled.
“ Of course its your mother! You haven’t been home for two days! You haven’t answered when I tried to call or text you. Where have you been?” Nicole was nearing hysterics.
“ Mom! Calm down. It’s fine. I’m fine, I’m just…” She didn’t know how to finish.
“ You’re just what?”
“With friends.”
“ With what friends?” Nicole persisted.
Glory was silent. She wasn’t sure she could just tell her mom she was with a bunch of vampires and shape shifters.
“ Uh, just some kids from school.” She finally answered. As far as she knew, it was Sunday. She had left with the Montez’s on Friday, and this was her second day being with them. Amazing all that had happened in two days.
“ What friends?”
Glory bit back a groan. Her mom just wasn’t going to give up this time.
“ Listen Mom, I’m coming home today ok? I’m really sorry I didn’t tell you what I was doing. It was all just a spur of the moment type of thing.” That at least was the truth.
“ All right. But we’ll talk more about it later.” Nicole’s voice still sounded suspicious.
“ Okay. Love you.” Glory just wanted to hang up.
“Love you too, honey. Ill see you later…Right?”
“ Right, Mom. Bye.”
Lupe breezed through the door just as Glory slid her phone shut.
“ Who was that?” Lupe asked as she rifled through the closet to pick something out for Glory to wear.
“ My mom. She’s freaking since I’ve been gone for so long. I cant believe I forgot about telling her.”
“ Uh oh.” Lupe gave her a sympathetic look. “ I cant believe Anna didn’t think to cover that. She’s usually really good about taking care of all that stuff.”
Glory didn’t answer. She slowly got out of bed and padded barefoot over to a mirror. She stared at herself. Blonde hair stuck up where all of her layers ended, and her eye makeup was slightly smudged.
“ Can I take a shower?” Glory blurted.
“ Of course!” Lupe exclaimed. “ I cant believe I didn’t ask you that yesterday! Yes, yes. Here. Ill show you where, and ill even do your makeup and hair afterward. What do you say?”
Glory grinned. “ That would be wonderful!”
An hour later, Glory was fresh, clean and looked like a model. She didn’t mean to brag about herself, but Lupe had done wonders. Her makeup made her blue eyes look huge, and her blonde hair hung in soft waves in a very flattering way.
“ Wow.” Was all Glory could say when she was done.
Lupe just grinned and hustled her out to dress her.
Another ten minutes later, Glory was standing down in the living room.
“Whoa.” Joel’s voice made Glory stiffen.
“ Joel.” Glory nodded to him politely.
“ You’re lookin good, Glory.” He smirked and crossed his arms over his muscular chest.
“ Thanks.” Glory muttered. Joel’s eye’s darkened and he took a step closer but a snarl from the other room stopped him in his tracks.
In less than a second, Aden’s body blurred to stand in-between Glory and Joel.
“ Take it easy, Man. Have you not looked at her? She deserves to be admired.” Joel’s face looked pretty smug.
Aden’s own face must have wiped the smugness away.
“ From afar I mean. Be admired from afar.” Joel scrambled to cover his blunder.
Glory slipped up beside Aden and put a hand on his arm.
“ I have to go home.”
Aden whirled to face her, his gold eyes hardening to amber for the first time since a while.
“ What?” His voice held a trace of panic.
“ I have to go home. My mom called me earlier. She‘s basically panicking.”
Aden regarded her with newly softened eyes.
“ You cant just go home, Glory. Its not safe for you now.”
Glory stiffened. “ What? I cant just not go home. I have to go. My mom is worried.”
Seconds later, Anna, Gabe and Lupe all stood around Glory, obviously hearing what was going on telepathically.
“ She’s right, Aden. We cant just make her leave everything she knows. That’s not fair.” Anna inserted.
Aden glared at his sister.
“ Fine. But either you or Lupe are to stay with her at all times.”
Glory looked over at Lupe excitedly.
But Lupe was looking a little worried. “ I cant just show up. Her mom’s gonna be smarter than that.”
“ Of course. That’s why I come and introduce myself as Glory’s boyfriend and with a little mind magic, she wont care at all and let us have run of the house.”
Glory sensed a but coming.
“But?” She asked when no one else answered.
“ It only works if I can touch her. If I cant, then we’re out of luck.”
Glory felt a dread building up in her stomach. For some reason, she had a feeling this wasn’t going to go well.
