Chapter Eight

    Less than ten minutes later, I was sitting in Rafe’s truck holding on for dear life as it bounced down an old bumpy road. I looked over and caught Rafe looking at me. He was grinning at me, dimpling flashing. I couldn’t help but smile back. Now that I think about it, I would much rather be bouncing along in a truck with a drop dead gorgeous guy then trying to hail a taxi in the pouring rain. Rafe stomped on the gas and I swore we caught a little air as we topped a small hill. I let out a shriek and before I knew it, laughter was bubbling through my lips for the first time in a long time. I locked eyes with Rafe, who was grinning like a madman. His eyes were lighter, more happy. I decided right then and there that I would try to make him happy every single second I could.
His eyes remained locked with mine. The truck rolled to a stop, but still I couldn’t look away. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw his hands tighten their grip on the steering wheel and a muscle clench in his jaw.
His eyes were slowly darkening into that forest green. I opened my mouth to speak, and his eyes flickered down to my lips. I snapped my mouth shut and quickly wetted my dry lips nervously. His eyes darkened even more, and the clenched muscle in his jaw ticked. And then suddenly one of his hands were cradling my face, and his lips were on mine. My mind went blank for one split second, and then a million thoughts bombarded my brain. Was this hunk of a gorgeous boy actually kissing me? But wait, his lips were just pressed against mine, obviously waiting for me to react. Praying that I hadn’t waited too long to respond, I moved my lips gently against his. It was like I lit a match.
Whoa! I thought as his lips moved against mine. I smiled against his lips. He might be the best wrestler, but we were playing my game now. Okay, okay, before you look at me like that, what can I say? When you’re half way good looking, you get kissed by boys. SoI had a little experience... Who cares! Rafe was about to get his socks knocked off. I tangled my fingers into his shaggy hair, sighing into his mouth I parted my lips slightly, drawing his bottom lip into mouth. His lips tangled with mine with a renewed vigor. I was waiting for it, but when his tongue traced my lip, a shock jolted down my spine.
I had been kissed, sure, but it never felt like this. I gave up on trying to impress him. I had finally met my match. He was as good as me, if not better. His other hand slid down until he was gripping my waist, trying to tug me closer. I shifted onto my knees in the seat so I could press closer to him. His arm snaked around me and hauled me closer. I groaned at the console between us. Without breaking our kiss, Rafe shifted back, throwing the console back. With the console out of the way, he hauled me closer. Geez, I breathed deeply through my nose. I hadn’t made out with someone this hot and heavy for a long time. Or felt this way either. This felt amazing.. I just couldn’t explain it.
Something rapped on the truck window.
I jumped, almost hitting my head on the trucks roof.
“Hey! Whats going on in there? The windows are all fogged up!” Parker’s voice filtered through the roaring in my ears.
I blinked as Rafe’s lips left mine.
I glanced down. Whoa.. When had I ended up on his lap!?
Rafe was staring at me with wide eyes.
I stared right back.
Parker knocked again.
“Are you guys coming?”
“We’ll be there.” Rafe snapped. His eyes were lighter.. And glinting angrily.
I couldn’t move.. I was rooted to the spot. Or more like his lap.
“Do you just go around kissing everyone you don’t know like that?” He snapped.
My heart jumped. WHAT?!
“Excuse me?” I asked. HE had kissed ME.
He shook his head and lightly dumped me on the seat next to him.
“We should go out here.”
I just sat there in shock as he opened the truck door and jumped down.
Well. That didn’t go like I had imagined…
